I was fined $47 for parking in a free lot. I parked near the credit card kiosk that displayed an option to pay using the TYB Park app, so I went with the app. The app already had my license plate and credit card number. I proceeded until I came to a screen stating there was no charge to park all day, at which time I assumed I was done and exited the app. Upon returning a couple of hours later, I found a parking citation for $47 citing no receipt on the dashboard. I called the number on the citation to clarify that I had used the app. I was told that the free parking will last through the holiday season as a gift to the city, and the fee will be waived if I provide my 9-digit session number from the app. I told them I closed the app after seeing there was no charge, and there is no 9-digit number. But, I had taken a screen shot from the app showing my license and zero charge. They told me I hadn’t taken the final payment step in the app, so it didn’t register in their system. I asked how I should know there was another step and was told this oversight happens often with app users. They told me the free parking gift had been advertised on TV and the city website. When I told them I was a visitor who had just arrived the day before, they said I should have checked the city website. They steadfastly insisted they could do nothing unless I had the 9-digit number because they need it for audit purposes. I can’t understand why they force users to go through the system only to pay nothing rather than simply post a sign on the kiosk that says “FREE PARKING”. I also wonder why the city pays for someone to look for receipts on dashboards when there is no charge anyway. The whole setup makes no...
Read more1-Star Review for Tybee Beach Public Parking:
I am extremely disappointed with my recent experience at Tybee Beach public parking. Despite paying for parking and following all the rules, we were slapped with a $115 parking ticket. We were in a 20ft van, which fits perfectly in a regular parking spot, and the lot was nearly empty—only one other car was there at the time. There was no justification for this outrageous fine, especially when we had already paid to park.
The lack of clear signage or communication about any restrictions for larger vehicles (which ours wasn’t even—it fit fine!) made this even more frustrating. It feels like a money grab rather than a legitimate parking enforcement issue. To add insult to injury, when we went to speak to both parking attending, and pencil pushing ladies at the parking office, they were rude and completely lacked any sense of logic.
This experience has left a sour taste in my mouth, and I would caution anyone visiting Tybee Beach to double-check the parking rules or avoid this lot altogether. Save yourself the hassle and don't visit...
Read moreTybee Island RV Parking Beware. So we went for the day to Tybee and parked at the beach lot in our 20 ft RV which we parked far to the north end so as not to disturb any cars. Our RV fit nicely in a regular spot and regardless there were not more than 20 cars in the lot. What we missed on the way in was a small sign that said no RV parking, did not matter what size. I paid the $16 and thought all was good. Got back to our RV and found a ticket for $90. There were no other signs other than the small one at the entrance that we missed. I believe they could have minimally put a small warning sticker on the payment kiosk or other signs in the parking lot area Seems like the parking attendants lay in wait and then pounce on vehicle when you leave. No sympathy from administration even though our RV was small and they called it a motor coach. I was happy to spend money at their restaurants and stores until I got the $90 surprise. WON’T...
