20250409-12 It has been over 5 years since I visited VA Beach. It is as clean and well maintained as before. This is my favorite Beach in the area, comparing to Ocean City, Rehoboth Beach, Dewey Beach and Bethany Beach. It has a lot of oceanfront hotels. Many hotels don't have on-site parking, and many offers valet parking and charges parking per day/night if you stay at one of these hotels. There are some oceanfront restaurants with outdoor patio, and some are even dogfriendly! The main strip, right behind the oceanfront hotels, is where the shops, restaurants and fun things to do places are located. The boardwalk is at least 2 miles 1 way. The lower number street section is not as new as the higher street number section. I always stay near the 30th street, much nicer to me. It seems to me that the lower street number section is more for the younger visitors while the higher street number section is more for the older visitors. There is a bike trail on the boardwalk, which is great for cyclists during beach season when the boardwalk is very crowded. There are clean public restrooms along the boardwalk. Highly recommend locating them before arriving just in case you need one. I Googled "restrooms". During off season, the beach and boardwalk are dogfriendly. Recommend checking the VA Beach pet policy during...
Read moreTraffic, crowds, not comfortably family friendly after 7-8pm. A Bit scary. Virtually no parking available for any kind of casual beach visit unless you luck our with finding a metered parking spot or have a hotel room with their own reserved parking. Tourists are great, but they do make it near impossible to even find a place on the sand to lay a towel or beach chair without sharing your space with who and what and all ever is around. Water is green-brown and I don't believe to be sanitary enough to allow my young child to swim or play in.. alot of trash on the beaches, boardwalk, street sides. Alot of drug use and exchange in the area and by/with many of the local grills, restaurants, bars, etc. Soooo many other sandy water way gems to visit and spend your time at in the even close nearby area....so considering such, we simply don't even usually include the virginia beach ocean front as an option when planning a beach day or weekend or even as a spur of the moment beach day trip anymore. My yearly (for 15+ yrs) family visitors from Pennsylvania have now taken place a little further south where time can be enjoyed for all and without worry of the repercussions of va beach many q Infamous "bar crawls"...
Read moreI had not been to the beach since my daughter was 10 and she is about to turn 21 this December. I have been telling her and anyone else lol that I just really needed to stick my toes in the sand. So, one Sunday morning, she wakes me up super early (like 5 AM early) and she goes get up and get ready to go and I’m like huh what’s wrong where are we going!!???!! She says I’m taking you to the beach, I look at her and was like that’s not funny. She just looks at me and says I’m not playing get up so we can go!!! It was the best surprise I’ve had in a very, very long time. It might have been just a quick day trip however; not only did I get to go to the beach that I’ve been in love with since my very first visit at the age of 18! But, I also got to spend a wonderful day with my daughter who is my world and loved every single minute of the day. Nothing like watching the waves and just sitting with my toes in the sand and the gentle breeze blowing my hair and my...
