The last night of my family trip I made the really unfortunate decision to choose this place to eat our dinner and get some (hopefully cheap or reasonably priced) drinks.
I'll start with the fact our waitress was very nice, she was kind and attentive. I have no issues with her service provided.
I'm very dissatisfied and so was all 7 of my family members with their food. Taco bell performs better Mexican. They didn't even bother to season my beef on my tacos, looked like cheap Shredded cheese, and it was super basic. Not even any sauce or seasoning, I'm barely able to cook macaroni and I can do better tacos than this. My wife's burrito had no chicken in the middle, my parents dish tasted like frozen chicken dipped in a deep fryer with queso thrown on top. All edible, but man we'll never go back.
Oh, happy hour? Yeah that doesn't apply to anything but beer. The whole reason I picked this place out is because it looked like we could go have dinner and 2 or 3 drinks each and relax as a family. Instead I only had one, because at $11 and not half off or discounted at all with happy hour that's just not worth it in my mind, especially when back home the same drinks cost $6-8 max. If it was a 5 star beach front property I'd understand those prices, but they had a screaming drunk lady and an unintelligible man making crazy grunt noises in the background with super loud music. We couldn't hear each other passed one person down the table. The atmosphere was awful.
Going to the bathroom? Oh there's no handle. Want to wash your hands? Well no soap in the bathroom. Open the door for the soap in the hallway, go back in, then wash your hands.
What a fine establishment.....I mean, a mandatory tip? Yikes, we usually tip above and beyond but that was an awful last straw to cross after delivering all of our food not only 35-50 minutes after we ordered... They delivered two at a time every few minutes. The first dinner prepared was done before the last dinners got brought out. I've never sat in a restaurant my entire life that delivers anything but all at once.I understand staffing issues, as they said they'd hire all positions but man... If they're willing to serve that food at those prices? I hope they change things up, or...
Read moreBaja Cantina on the Virginia Beach waterfront brings a lively, colorful vibe to the oceanfront dining scene, offering a fun spot for Mexican-inspired fare. It's a solid four-star choice, particularly for those looking for a festive atmosphere and a taste of the Baja coast right by the Atlantic. The location is definitely a highlight. Being right on Atlantic Avenue means you're in the thick of the action, with the option for people-watching and that quintessential beach-town energy. The decor inside is vibrant and inviting, with bright colors and a casual, laid-back feel that perfectly matches the "cantina" theme. It's the kind of place that instantly puts you in a vacation mood. The food generally hits the spot. Their tacos are a popular choice, with a good variety of fillings, from classic carnitas to fresh fish options. The chips and salsa are a good start, and their burritos are generously sized and satisfying. What really stands out are the drinks – their margaritas are well-crafted and come in a good selection of flavors, perfect for sipping on a warm beach day. They often have live music or a DJ, which adds significantly to the lively and enjoyable atmosphere. Service is typically friendly and attentive, even when the restaurant gets busy, which it often does, especially during peak season. The staff does a good job of keeping the energy up and making sure guests feel welcome. So, why not five stars? While consistently good, the food, while tasty, doesn't always venture into truly exceptional or innovative territory. It's solid Tex-Mex/Baja fare, but perhaps not a culinary destination for a sophisticated palate. Also, because of its popularity and lively atmosphere, it can get quite loud, making conversation a bit challenging at times. Like many oceanfront establishments, prices can also be a touch higher than a similar restaurant set further back from the main strip. However, for a vibrant, fun, and flavorful dining experience with great drinks and a lively atmosphere right on the Virginia Beach waterfront, Baja Cantina is an excellent choice. It's a fantastic spot to unwind after a day at the beach and enjoy some good food and even...
Read moreVery Disappointed in recent Customer service at BAJA CANTINA and WILL NOT RETURN!!! We have been long time customers as locals and also supporting this place throughout the COVID 19 curbside ordering every week. Spending at least a $100 each time on food and drink. We previously were always served by a kind female who worked the window each time we visited. Now, We are a black couple, no one else of this appearance was waiting to order or in surrounding area. After waiting at window for 10 minutes. We were finally asked if we wanted to order? We said yes, then were told it was CASH only so we again said yes, no problem. A heavier set Caucasian gentlemen. With two empty drink cups walks up in front of us to the guy who was working the window at around 6-630pm on May 13th. And the Guy working the window as rude as the counterpart says” you want more drinks boss?” The heavier set guy says yes and I’m ready for food! The window guy then moves the food ticket he was about to write for us- and immediately takes this other guys order. In our face as if we didn’t matter. My husband immediately said..and NOW I’M DONE! We were both so disgusted and angry at the blatant discriminatory treatment we received at a place that once was our favorite. We walked away angry, frustrated and highly offended! We will NEVER SUPPORT this business again. We also will tell every person that we ever told about the food or experience we had before NEVER to return based on this horrible experience. We live in a day and time, where racism and discriminatory acts are even more Magnified on how ugly because it’s now 2020?! Wake up? What does being ugly solve? There was no other reason this guy took that approach with us other than to show our business was not welcomed!!! This guy last night costed Baja Cantina - not just two long time customers.... but even more. I will be sure to post on every social media platform I can- because that was totally unacceptable! And we at least went on to support 21st seafood company who were gracious kind and appreciative of...
