After searching through reviews on booking.com and TripAdvisor, we settled for Comfort Suites for our annual Virginia Beach vacation. I was hesitant to book a room here because so many of the reviews mentioned that the place is dated, ran down, in need of repair and the closer it got to the time of our trip, I saw many complaints about one elevator being broken down. Luckily for us, it was repaired and operating as it should be upon our arrival on 8/24/25. After about a 10-hour car ride, we arrived an hour or so before check-in time and the lady at the front desk, Rose, was very nice and friendly and allowed us to get into our room early. We were given room 1001 on the 10th floor, close to the elevators, right next to the vending machine & the self-serve laundry room. This was convenient for me as I can't stand for laundry to pile up, not even on vacation. There are self-serve laundry rooms on 4 or 5 different floors, which is convenient. It will cost you $2 to wash and $2 to dry. You can bring your own laundry detergent and dryer sheets, which I did, or these items are available for purchase in the lobby. We were given a king suite, which consisted of a separate living room with a couch, a TV, a sink with ample counter space, a table and two chairs, a microwave, and a mini refrigerator. The king-size bedroom was spacious with another TV, a spacious closet, and a spacious bathroom. The bed was comfortable & we loved the big fluffy pillows! This suite has 2 balconies. The one off the bedroom overlooks the 24th street stage, which we LOVED, as there's live music every night during the summer months. If the live music scene is not your thing, keep this in mind when booking a room here and ask to be put on the opposite end of the hotel AWAY from the 24th Street stage. Also note that you will hear military jets flying overhead numerous times a day and it can be very loud at times. This didn't bother us at all but it may be something for you to consider while choosing a place to stay. This IS an older hotel, and it IS dated . It DOES need work, but everything in our room was in fairly decent shape and operating as it should be. The view of the ocean was wonderful! My biggest complaint about this room is the water pressure in the shower. It was awful! I believe that's something that happens when you are on a floor higher up. During our stay, every single employee that we interacted with was very nice and friendly. Note that you do not receive daily housekeeping at this hotel. You will receive it every 3RD day of your visit. Since we arrived on Sunday, our room was not serviced until Wednesday, which was okay by me. Someone did come almost daily and replenish the dirty towels and remove the garbage from our room. Also during our stay, one of the elevators went down but we lucked out and the hotel was not crowded so the wait times for the one working elevator were not bad at all and the broken elevator was repaired within a day or so. The pool was nice. It's located on the 4th floor, which is also where you go for the breakfast buffet provided from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 daily. I'd also like to mention Chris and Vicki, who put on a wonderful breakfast! Lots of choices and Chris's potatoes are the talk of the town! He and his daughter are very friendly and talkative and do a GREAT job with breakfast. The views of the beautiful beach & boardwalk were fantastic! We enjoyed sitting out on the balcony, drink in hand, taking it all in. PARKING- is a bit tight and my advice to you is if you are given a room on one of the higher floors, park on the top level of the garage so you can get to your room more easily. One of the most aggravating things about the parking is the yellow concrete pillars they have. If you drive a bigger SUV or minivan, you have to be very careful pulling in or backing out so you don't scrape up against these pillars. I mentioned previously that this place is dated and in need of revamping, and I have seen comments on other posts here that this is going to happen sometime in the fall. Overall, we enjoyed our stay here and would definitely consider staying here again for future visits to Virginia Beach. See my...
Read moreWe were given a room that hadn't been cleaned yet so had to call the front desk and get a different room. Woman accidentally gave us the wrong room. (This was after the 4 pm check-in time.) Only 1 elevator worked the entire week and there's 12 floors! Glad we asked for a lower room! Never done so many steps in my life! And of course it's not air conditioned in the stairwell. There was a family with a girl in a wheelchair. Don't know how long they would've wound up waiting for an elevator to get up & down all week. Most were full when they finally showed up. There were also a few elderly couples that were complaining that they're not able to use the stairs. The ice maker was broken on the 1st floor and they don't have them on every floor. The shower leaked water all over the floor. Even with the towel mat, the floor was soaked. The door to the balcony was rusted all along the edge so that's a hazard for tetanus and had black mold on the outside. The couch is worn out and needs replaced. ||The breakfast kitchen couldn't keep up with demand and the pans that held the food were way too small so they were constantly running out of food. The food was decent if you could get what you wanted, but the breakfast area is pretty small and crowded and not suitable for a hotel that large. At some points it was hard to get a table to sit at. People ate bacon like it was an entree instead of a side, filling up their plates with no regard for others. Can't imagine how bad the line would be if there were people waiting to make their own waffles! The pancakes that they made were good though if you could get your hands on some. The coffee sent us both to the bathroom shortly afterwards so we waited before going to the beach. They’d run out of orange juice and not put in more. They'd just leave it empty and take the sign off the front. ||The only things good about this place was the guy hustling in the kitchen to try to keep the small food trays filled (although a boombox playing early in the morning isn't what my head was ready for, but made it a party atmosphere), the outdoor pool, the location which has public bathrooms right there, a walkway out and across the beach, and it’s next to the 24th Street park so we were able to watch soundcheck for the bands from the parking deck. But when they had the rave on Friday night, it was a nightmare having to listen to that thumping and people passed out from overdoing it. The police were out in force, even on horseback.||Our reservation also said "Hotel Service Fee: Parking, Beach Rentals, Bicycle Access, In Room Coffee, Welcome Drink" but aside from parking and a coffee maker in the room, we were not offered any of the other...
Read moreTHE LOCATION OF THIS HOTEL IS PERFECT...10 OUT OF 10. THE STAFF WAS FRIENDLY...10 OUT OF 10. THE GENTLEMAN WHO RUNS THE BREAKFAST, I TOTALLY FORGOT HIS NAME, WAS ABSOLUTELY THE BEST THING ABOUT THE HOTEL HE GETS A 15 OUT OF 10. I WANTED TO SAY THE GOOD THING FIRST.
NOW FOR THE NOT SO GOOD.
I BOOKED OUR STAY FROM AUGUST 29 LEAVING ON SEPTEMBER 2. IT WAS FOR ME AND MY 80 YEAR OLD MOTHER.
THE PILLOW CASE ON ONE OF THE BEDS OBVIOUSLY NOT BEEN CHANGED AS THERE WAS VISABLE BLOOD STAINS ALL OVER ONE OF THE PILLOW CASES
THE BATHROOM FLOOR HAD NOT BEEN MOPPED IN QUITE A WHILE AS WHEN WE PUT THE BATHMAT ON THE FLOOR AFTER SHOWERING, THE BOTTOM OF THE TOWEL WAS FILTHY.
THE SHOWER STALL WAS SLIMY AND SLIPPERY MY MOTHER ALMOST FELL
THE WINDOWS WERE DISGUSTING...I WENT AND PURCHASED SOME WINDEX AND BOUNTY SO THAT I COULD SEE OUT OF THEM...THEY HAD BEEN WIPED WITH A WET RAG AND ALL YOU COULD SEE WAS WAS WET MARKS WHERE SOMEONE TRIED TO CLEAN THE WINDOWS BUT FORGOT TO WIPE THEM DRY..
IT TOOK MY 200 POUND BEHIND (MIND YOU I AM A 60 YEAR OLD WOMAN) TO SLAM INTO THE BALCONY DOOR TO OPEN IT AS IT WAS RUSTED SHUT
ON SUNDAY MORNING I CALLED THE FRONT DESK ASKING FOR HOUSEKEEPING (TOWELS, BATHROOM TISSUE AND COFFEE) THIS NEVER HAPPENED, WHEN WE RETURNED TO THE ROOM IN THE EVENING, I HAD TO CALL THE FRONT DESK AGAIN, IN THE MEANTIME, I WENT ACROSS THE STREET TO WALGREEN TO PURCHSE SOME BATHROOM TISSUE. (THEY DID BRING SOME TOWELS LATER ON THAT EVENING BUT NO BATHROOM TISSUE OR COFFEE. AND THEN LATER ON SOME BATHROOM TISSUE WAS DELIVERED.
THE STICKER ON THE BATHROOM MIRROR STATED THERE WOULD ONLY BE HOUSEKEEPING ON THE 3RD DAY...WE STAYED 5 DAYS AND ZERO HOUSEKEEPING.
THIS WAS MY FIRST VACATION IN OVER 5 YEARS AND WE MADE THE MOST OF OUR TIME AS FABULOUS AS POSSIBLE. I AM NOT THE TYPE OF PERSON TO COMPLAIN SO IF YOU HAD NOT SENT ME THIS SURVEY, I WOULD HAVE NEVER SAID ANYTHING, BUT SINCE YOU ASKED, THIS WAS MY HONEST EXPERIENCE WITH COMFORT...
