Stayed at the hotel for my birthday the day we arrived, my brother's birthday the next day and to celebrate his nine month deployment he just got in from that day.
Down to one elevator the entire stay. Took us, no joke, 20 minutes to get to the lobby (couldn't use stairs due luggage and injuries).
Upon arrival they put us in a room that hadn't been clean. Called front desk and it took them some time to figure out where to put us. Was redirected to a room three floors lower. Before we could go in we were told the maintenance man had to check it out. As I glanced into the room he was screwing on a door knob.
Didn't yet complain...
Went to get in the shower. Waited 5 min for it to warm up. Called front desk when it wouldn't warm up and was at that time informed that we were in one of their two "problem rooms" on floor six and that we had to turn it to cold in order to get hot. Fine.
Got out of the shower to a puddle of water on the floor and slipped. Wiped it up with one of the three towels we were given. Sister showered and the same thing happened. Called front desk again to find out there was a leak in that shower.
We dropped a small bottle into the sink in the bathroom and it went right through causing a hole in the bottom of the sink. Called front desk and was told at that time that the had to move us again and that they would give us a call later. After packing up our stuff and a few hours later, we were told we would be staying in that room and that they were going to fix the problems. Nothing like taking time to worry about moving instead of enjoying yourself at the beach only to be told that you are staying.
The hotel in general is dingy. The vents were covered in dust and the walls were all scuffed up.
No where to keep average size luggage in the bedroom. Maybe a foot clearance around the beds, wall, furniture, etc.
Anyway...
The issues were adding up and we were told after each incident that they would talk to their manager. Didn't hear back from anyone at all so finally just confronted the front desk. After arguing back and forth with the employee who flat out told us we were in a problem room, another employee who seemed more authoritative stepped in and offered us a free night and some additional credit for our stay and we agreed.
Went back the next morning at checkout to settle and were told that they decided not to give us a free night.
I understand that things happen that cannot be controlled and normally wouldn't complain but the lack of communication, the total disregard of the inconvenience of poorly functioning rooms, the non-working elevator, no manager on duty during our stay and going back on our agreement pushed me over the edge. It is a very unorganized hotel and staff. The only employee who actually deserves any credit is the maintenance man. Nice guy. I am sure he is working around the clock at that hotel.
Bottom line- if you have high expectations of customer service, working rooms and elevators and overall cleanliness, don't stay here.
If you have average expectations, just make sure you are getting a great deal...
Read moreCurrently staying at this hotel and scheduled to check out at 11am; I checked in on 8/24/20. The reviews online were great and the pictures that they have on the website for the 2 room with 2 Queens look extremely spacious. But in-person it is a totally different story. The room is extremely small and cramped. The hallway is not at all as long as it seems in the pictures in the website. The furnishings are old and run down, and the outdated popcorn ceilings and textured walls make this place look like it jumped right out of the 80s. Not to mention the extremely low ceilings; when in the resroom my hand can touch and lay flat on the ceiling and I and only average height! The bed is extremely hard and uncomfortable as well.
The only thing that did not disappoint was the oceanfront view from the balcony.
Not to mention I called the front desk this morning around 545 am to ask for a later check out; kids have online school so a later checkout would give us more time to complete assignments before heading out. DJ at the front desk in a reprimanding and very rude tone says, "checkout is at 11!". Naturally, I think maybe he didn't hear me or thought I asked what time is checkout. So I rephrase the questions and say "oh yes I understand but can you all extend the checkout?" to which he rudely states "we require you to ask that 24hrs in advance so no, checkout is at 11". I don't argue the fact that there is no way guest would no to ask 24hours in advance unless they were told t checkin or a sign was posted. I have stayed in many hotels that rate far better and never have I ever been told I need to ask for a later checkout 24hrs in advance. I have sat in this hotel with no housekeeping due to Covid, subpar breakfast, and shabby surroundings for 3 days! The least they could do was honor my request to checkout late as opposed to saying no because I did not give a 24hr notice...they never said they did not have the availability, they just would not even consider it since I did not call the night before! I stopped staying a Choice Hotel brands many many years ago due to the lack of quality and customer service/care, and this was my attempt at giving them another chance;...
Read moreWe chose this hotel because it offered a better price point than the surrounding options while still meeting our must-haves, and overall, we’ve had a good stay. The rooms are very clean, and we love that they include two king beds, which can be surprisingly hard to find. Housekeeping comes daily, which is a huge plus for us (because, kids!), and every room is oceanfront with a private balcony. The location is fantastic, right on the Atlantic Avenue strip, and the hotel itself is modern, well-kept, and includes both a pool and hot tub. This is actually our second time staying here.
That said, there are a few things that have us reconsidering whether we’d return again. The air conditioning setup seems flawed, at least in the room we had. One king bed is in the back section of the room, and the other is on the oceanfront side with the balcony. Unfortunately, the balcony side gets significantly warmer, despite the A/C running non-stop. One area stays cool while the other hovers around 70–75 degrees, which made it tough to sleep comfortably.
Another odd and inconvenient issue, there’s no bathroom on the main level of the hotel, not even in the lobby. If you’ve just come up from the beach and want to hop in the pool or hot tub but need to use the restroom, you’re expected to trek all the way back up to your room, sandy and wet, just to come back down again. It’s frustrating and honestly kind of baffling.
Also worth noting, you’re not allowed to take any breakfast items back to your room. After a long overnight drive from NY, we needed to sleep in, and of course, our kids weren’t up in time for breakfast. It would’ve been really nice to be able to bring a small plate of food (even just cereal and fruit) back to the room for them.
We do think this is a lovely hotel in many ways, and we’ve enjoyed both of our stays, but these few details do carry some weight when it comes to deciding whether we’ll book again...
