Always find good stuff here. Some things are a little over priced in my opinion, but overall love this store for shopping & they have lots of cute stuff! It is an upgrade from Plato’s closet in my opinion!
However, as far as selling items here I’d give no stars if that was an option. They are beyond picky with what they buy and not in a good / beneficial way. I see LOTS of worn down items on shelves every single time I’m there, which is very frustrating because I’ve brought in items with tags still attached to sell several times, but they turned them away.
About 6 ish months ago, I had called with some questions about selling before making the 25 minute drive one way. My very first question was “What are the rules/ restrictions/ store policy’s on selling items.” I was told there were none which I found odd. So I then asked if they buy 24/7 during hours of operation or do they have specific time frames. I was told they buy all year around during hours of operation. I then asked if they ever have to put a hold on buying items due to overstock or what not (due to previous experiences elsewhere). I was told no, they’re always buying. Moral being, all my questions were answered & I was in the clear so I thought. I then drive out there, haul in one large storage bin filled and two large black trash bags filled. Very heavy and wasn’t easy. I get all the way into the store, just to be told that there is a Two bag limit for selling. I was not thrilled but just said ok. They tore through my stuff in less than five minutes and there simply was just no way they even looked at each item. They pull out EIGHT items I believe it was & offered me like $12. Mind you, I do know the drill and the stuff I bring in to sell is not junk and is all name/ designer brand and majority being brand new with tags. I am picky with what I bring to sell to spare myself from wasting my own time. Let alone theirs. Needless to say I was not satisfied but did not express that and accepted the fact that there is always a chance I leave disappointed with what didn’t sell.
Fast forward to about a month ago. I drive out with two large, heavy bags to sell. I get in the store at 7:06 pm only to be told that they stop buying items at 7pm. When I expressed my concern about the fact that I specifically called in asking for this information prior to driving out there, told the staff I asked about selling rules/ restrictions & what not and was told there’s none, they were the complete opposite of professional and did not care one bit about what I had to say and kept repeating themselves. They were not remorseful one bit and just kept saying “Sorry about that. But we stop buying at 6 and our system won’t let us do it.” It was one young male & two young females working. They then realized that I was not happy and the male decided to say “If you’d like to leave your items for donation you can!” I said absolutely not. He then offered “If you’d like, you can leave your items over night and I’ll go through them in the morning and whatever we’re not buying will be donated and I can call you when it’s finished?” I said absolutely not and was proceeding to leave the store and He then said “You can bring them back tomorrow and we’d be more than happy to go through them then.” I said ok will do. I drive all the way out there the next day, which was a Sunday, just to find out they’re closed on Sundays. I was so frustrated at this point and somehow managed to just let it go. I just now know that it’s my choice and if i choose to continue selling, I’m at least aware that my chances of it ending in pure satisfaction for me are slim to none. Still a great store and your experience truly just depends on what staff is there that day. I have had great trips & not so great and the staff overall were the reason it was either great or...
Read moreJust another meh consignment store. The store has some decent stuff. Majority of it doesn’t measure up to hype they attempt to portray. Just like Plato’s Closet they are extremely flawed and don’t continuously abide by their own policies. They claim they want “excellent quality with no wear” You’re a consignment store not a boutique. Excellent quality is great but to say with no wear?! It’s used, obviously there will be some wear. People shopping consignment are aware of this. If you’re confusing your wording, you should change that on your website. Either way they have a lot of cheap stuff like clothing from SHEIN which is made so cheaply and more than half is low quality. So much stuff is dirty, overly worn, cheaply made and overpriced for the quality. Which they “don’t take” items like that or so they say. They also claim they don’t take items over 2 years old but they have plenty of outdated items I’m assuming they take and over charge because of a brand name. They also rip you off for premium brands. They offered me $4 for a free people onesie in new condition. They also ask for your items to be brought in neatly. However, they gave me my stuff back rolled into balls. Absolutely unacceptable and rude considering you ask a lot from sellers but can’t give them the same respect. Like most trendy consignment franchises, they have polices but it doesn’t mean much. As long as one person likes what you have they will consider it even if they tell the majority of customers they don’t accept said items. It’s difficult to respect a place like this that doesn’t take their own business model seriously nor...
Read moreI love the idea of Uptown Cheapskates. Where else can you bring in some of your old things and get some new things with the funds that you make recycling your old clothes. What a great idea of one of the best ways of making money and obtaining a new wardrobe that I've seen in a long time. I love the fact that there are so many brand names but there are also inexpensive off label items The weeks when you just can't come up with extra dollars bring in some trades and look for the great sale labels. They offer anywhere from 20 to 60 percent off the thrifty prices for items that are like brand new. Definitely my new favorite place. Now I'm going to put a new Hanover location on my wishlist. Until then I'll keep traveling to York though. Also I wanted to offer many kudos and recognition to the staff. All of the girls that I encountered were wonderfully friendly and inviting while maintaining a professional manner. It really was a pleasure to steal a few moments of pleasure browsing through the store. Another bonus is next door there's a kids shop that buys and sells so you can recycle your children's items...
