RESPONSE: I want to thank The Hen Houses for replying to my post, but to be 100% clear, in the text they wrote,
"Unfortunately they are sticking to the non refundable cancellation policy, they would not be able to give you or move the reservation as they cannot give you any registration fees returned and they are not sure of the registration dates for next year."
It was not made clear that I needed to provide the dates for next year (not sure how I would know if the convention center isn't even aware), and I was not even aware that anyone was waiting for me to provide them. The only suggestion given was to have another team member stay at the house. I did not respond because both the convention center and the Hen Houses made it quite clear that I was out all of my money, with no exceptions. Again, I did not expect a full refund, but I did expect some sort of flexibility. This is a trip that my family was looking forward to for months. We did not decide to cancel on a whim, it was for a serious reason.
Also, I texted you 12 hours before arrival because, unfortunately, I was unable to know ahead of time that my son was going to get sicker instead of feeling better. We were actually all packed and ready to go, because he was feeling better the day before. Unfortunately that evening he came down with an even higher fever than before, and I texted The Hen Houses and the convention center immediately.
Original Post: I had to cancel my reservation due to a severe sickness that my child had. We are about 8 hours away so there was no way we would have been able to attend the event or stay at the hotel, he was extremely ill. Unfortunately we were unable to change our booking date or even get a partial refund. This booking was through the Wildwood Convention center for an event in the area, but they as well as The Hen Houses were unwilling to work with us. Super disappointed about this. I did not expect a full refund but I did expect some sort of willingness to help given our circumstances. I was really looking forward to it as it does look very nice but because of this we will not be booking here...
Read moreWow. I cannot say enough about The Hen Houses! We had a magical stay during our Thanksgiving break and everything exceeded our expectations, so much that I'm tempted to gatekeep but have already blabbed to everyone that would listen about our trip!
From the start, we felt welcomed and taken care of by Iona the Innkeeper. She corresponded with me several times before our stay date and really helped to make things special like have cookie decorating & smores kits along with all the fixings for hot chocolate. It was a big hit with my kids.
We stayed in the 1883 House and it was immaculate! Fully stocked kitchen with top of the line appliances and finishes and they really thought of every details down to the All-Clad cooking utensils to the perfectly labelled spice drawer. We weren't going to cook while down there but we just had to give the kitchen a test run!
The second floor - amazing! Decorated perfectly with a mix or new and some antique furnishings. The beds were very comfortable and the closets were spacious. And again, everything was super clean. Not even 1 water spot in the bathroom. With the details - they stocked the bathroom with a toothbrush and other toiletries. Very thoughtful.
Staying during the holidays is just magical. They put a tree in the living room, a small one on the porch and the property is all decorated with lights. The theme of our house was trains and they even had a Christmas train snow globe on the living room table and an old school wood train on the dining room table. Talk about details!
I honestly could go on and on but the biggest takeaway is that this is a wonderful place to make memories and leave your cares behind for a bit. We're thinking of making this a yearly tradition and are already planning another trip...
Read moreA truly wonderful stay We recently stayed at The Henhouses and had a fantastic experience. From check-in to check-out, the entire operation is smooth, thoughtful, and clearly guest-focused.
A perfect example of their service happened right as we arrived. A gentleman from the staff immediately noticed us with our luggage and brought over a cart. He helped us load everything and insisted on taking it to our unit for us. When we tried to tip him for his help, he smiled and declined, saying it was all part of the service. It was a genuine and welcoming first impression.
The property itself is packed with everything you need for a relaxing stay. We really enjoyed the little details that make a difference:
· Pool towels were plentiful and easy to grab, so we never had to worry about bringing our own. · The complimentary bikes were a great way to explore the area. · Having a private grill at our unit was awesome for a casual dinner night. · The outdoor games like cornhole and giant Jenga were a fun way to spend the afternoon.
Most impressively, the entire staff was consistently attentive and professional. Any request we had, whether it was for a dinner recommendation or an extra amenity, was handled quickly and cheerfully, no matter the time of day. They are clearly on top of things and take pride in what they do.
We had a really great time and would not hesitate to return or recommend The Henhouses to anyone. It’s a well-run, comfortable, and...
