We have always been fans of Pirate's Cove, and like to go when we are in a town with one and have the opportunity. Unfortunately, this one turned me off of them a bit. To start, the course was nice and the employees were helpful. There were people in front of us in line that were talking and asking a lot of questions. The attendant that was available offered for us to come around to the back and she would check us out so we didn't have to wait. She asked if we would like to do both courses or just one. When I asked how long does it usually take to play one, she noted they were not busy tonight so maybe 45 minutes. We decided to go ahead and do both. While we were wrapping up the first course a HUGE party came in and were playing the 2nd course. They were very slow and Unfortunately we had to get back for our babysitter and couldn't wait the extra long time. This was around 8 PM. We asked if we could get a credit or something for the 2nd game because we were told they weren't busy, and were expecting to be done based on the time quoted. We were informed we could bring our 2 year old back and play the 2nd course, we had until 10 PM to use it. When we noted she is 2 and would be asleep, we were told we don't give refunds and turned their back on us to help another customer. Another attendant was not so dismissive and did apologize for the policy. We are understanding people, but to take no accountability in the setup and give such little care in their business practices did not sit well with me at all.
Updated based on company reply: I am glad you were able to watch the video and see how dismissive the first attendant was to us. I hope the woman that followed-up and gave us the tokens after we were dismissed gets acknowledge for caring about the customer and...
Read moreThis was a very fun 1.5 hour round of mini golf for the two of us. They have two courses, both are 18 holes each. You can buy them together cheaper than you can buy them separately. We purchased the more difficult experience, the Blackbeard course. We parked in their own lot and were greeted by a kind lady who took an interest in us and our vacation week. She helped us get started and handed us our clubs and golf balls. The course is well decorated, and each hole has a fun fact about Blackbeard. Throughout the course, you learn more and more about his life, chronologically. It was very clean and well organized, you knew where to go each time for the next hole. It's all outside, and we had good weather. I don't remember if there was much shade, but there is a part where you go under a waterfall. We had no one behind us, as we came on a Monday afternoon, so we spent some extra time on one hole with a steep incline because it was fun to launch the ball. There is a water feature, so you might lose your ball in the water, but we were able to retrieve it ourselves easily. They played some odd music, some was Disney or pirate-themed, and then at the end, it was the kind of music you hear at a Mexican restaurant. It made me laugh. When finished, the last hole collects your ball and you simply turn in your clubs to the little house where you check-in. I would definitely recommend this location, as it was fun, clean, and entertaining. I'm glad we stopped by during...
Read moreI recently met some relatives here to play both courses. We came from Richmond and King William county, a little over an hour drive for both parties, because in my research it seemed to be the best mini golf course in a reasonable driving distance. It did not disappoint and we agreed it was worth the drive. Very ornate, involved holes built on levels, everything from a long hole through a cave and waterfall to trick holes that look simple only to find there's a blind spot like a small tree or multiple paths with the obvious choice not always being the right one. This ads to the challenge and the fun.
They have two courses, one more challenging than the other yet I think that the best hole is the cave hole on the less challenging one.
The only two things I would mention is that a couple holes had small patches of worn and torn turf, but nothing major, and understandable when you have a place with such extreme traffic 7 days a week. Also It would be nice if they sold water and soft drinks in the clubhouse as the vending machines were mostly out of stock and malfunctioning, but over all the best course I've ever been to. If it weren't for those factors I'd give it 5 stars.
The kids loved it and were disappointed when it was over. Wish we had a course this good...
