We were staying in Williamsburg and we wanted something close to the hotel that had carry out available. I was looking forward to some good Thai food. Since we were in the area, I figured I'd drop in and order in person for the carry out, rather than phone in. The restaurant was very pleasant inside, clean and contemporary. However it took 7 minutes for anyone to greet me, even though staff passed me waiting. Finally I was greeted, and when I asked to order for carry out, I was just motioned to the bar. There I waited an additional 5 minutes to be acknowledged. During this time, the phone rang several times and the lady answering the phone said they were too busy for carry out orders right now, call back later. This was 7pm on a Saturday night. There were only 4 tables in service, and two waitresses. The issue was not traffic, it was being understaffed on a Saturday night. Not a good sign. I asked if I could order carry out, and the lady said of course, just not by phone. I placed a small order of two Pad Thai, one chicken, one tofu, no peanuts. I was told to come back in 30 minutes. I started to have a bad feeling about this, but we were hungry. We went for a drive and came back. The food was nice and hot fresh from the kitchen. I asked if spice was in the bag too. She said spices are in the food already and so are napkins, and cutlery. Got back to the hotel and started our meal. Both orders came with peanuts when we said no peanuts. Now the food was amazing, probably the best tasting Pad Thai I've ever had, except it had no spice. I could have served it on a kids menu. I know some Thai places give you spices on the side, and I had asked the lady, but she said spice was already on the food. Most places give you the choice of mild, medium, hot, or Thai hot. I would say this was 3 steps below mild! So in summary, come in to eat, don't do carry out. Don't come on a Saturday night, and ask for extra supreme Thai hot spice if you want to taste it on your tongue. Expect to wait quite a long time, and don't come if you have a peanut allergy because seemingly you can't have it without. Shame the service was off because the food was served hot, fresh, and was a...
Read moreI am a frequent visitor to the Bangkok Garden restaurants in Norfolk and Virginia Beach so naturally when I was in Williamsburg it was an easy decision to eat at Bangkok Garden. I was greatly disappointed at the service especially the way I was treated with my family of 3 at this Williamsburg Bangkok Garden. From the moment we walked into the door the lady w/ blondish tints to her hair was unwelcoming. The other lady who may have been the host was pleasant and she said someone would be with us. When the blondish tint hair lady came she grabbed menus and started walking around the corner. She didn’t communicate with us to follow her. But then she titled her head back from around the corner looking at us and so I asked are we supposed to follow you and She said ummhumm. So I assumed that was yes. So we hustle to follow her because she disappeared around the corner and we saw her clearing a table so we walked up to her and she said no, menus over there as she pointed behind us. We looked behind us (because we past 2 tables to get to her) two tables back there were 3 menus placed on a table. So I was a bit turned off by this treatment. The final mistreatment was the cups that our drinks came in were not presentable to serve beverage in. They were dirty and very cracked at the top and even looked chewed up at the brim in a couple places. I looked around in the restaurant at the other two tables that had guests seated and eating and noticed their drink cups were clean, presentable and without cracks. I took pictures and went to the front to ask the waiter if she could give us the check for our drinks because we are leaving. She went and got the host lady (who was pleasant). Once the host took a look at our drinks, she told us we can just leave and not to worry about the drinks. I will not come back to this restaurant in Williamsburg but I’ll still continue to go to the other ones in Norfolk and Va Beach. Please see the attached photos of the brim of the dirty cups that our drinks were served to us in. (Also b/c I was very thirsty I did take a large sip without looking at the cup first so I was more disgusted...
Read moreMy recent visit to Bangkok Garden in Williamsburg was a mixed experience, marked by beautiful ambiance but disappointing customer service. Upon entering, we were welcomed into a lovely restaurant and seated immediately, setting the stage for a promising evening. I ordered the Pad Thai and Massaman Curry with vegetables and tofu, while my friend chose the Crab Rangoon and Chicken Massaman Curry.
The food arrived quickly, but sadly, my friend was let down by her Crab Rangoon, which lacked any actual crab and was mostly filled with cream cheese. The real turning point, however, came with my Pad Thai. Upon tasting it, I found the flavor and smell off-putting (veggies tasted spoiled) and alerted our server (Eddie). Instead of addressing my concern professionally, he asked, “Have you ever had Pad Thai before?” in a condescending manner, even after I explained that I had enjoyed it many times before. As I tried to discuss having the dish removed from my bill, he walked away while I was still speaking and expressed frustration in his native language before even reaching the kitchen.
Throughout the night, his attitude did not improve. He would often walk away while we were requesting further items, giving us side-eye and visibly irritated when my friend asked for a takeout box for her rice, which he begrudgingly brought back and dropped onto the table.
Overall, I was greatly disappointed by the customer service at Bangkok Garden, particularly when I noticed the stark contrast in how he treated other customers. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this restaurant; if you're looking for authentic Thai food with attentive service, I advise seeking out...
