Beware of online ordering!! I am so sad to have to write this, because I really loved 7 Mares until this terrible encounter. I had ordered online several times in the past, always for pick-up, with no issues. Every time I placed an online order, I received an email and text confirming my order and pick-up time.
On May 23, I tried ordering delivery. With the delivery fee, my total came to $47.31. When i tried to click "submit" on my order, I got an error message, so I tried again, thinking it must be a problem with the site. Again, when I hit submit, I got an error message. This time, it said that my address was outside of the delivery zone. I did not get a text or email receipt/confirmation for either of these transactions, so I assumed that they did not go through. So about 30 minutes later I went ahead and placed another order for pick-up, which did not incur the $10 delivery fee. Once I hit "submit"- I received the regular text and email confirmations for my orders.
Fast forward to pick-up, which was around 5:15pm. When I arrived, there were three orders sitting there with my name on them. Apparently my delivery orders went through on their end- though I did not get receipts from them AND THEY WERE NOT DELIVERED TO ME. So I told the person who was at the front desk that this was obviously a mistake/glitch with the website, because it was the same order placed 3 times, only two were for delivery- that was never delivered- and one for pick-up. I told him that I did not get a receipt/text/email for any of the first two $47.31 orders. The man (maybe 40's, gray man-bun hair) essentially told me too bad. I'd placed the orders and there was nothing I could do about it. I was FLABBERGASTED. This was the worst customer service I could have imagined experiencing. Their website had a glitch and I was charged nearly $100 for food THAT WASN'T EVEN DELIVERED. As I tried to ask what the next steps were- he literally just WALKED AWAY. I promise that I was kind and not pitching a fit. I just wanted this corrected.
So- I ended up taking the $38.51 food bag that I did in fact order, and left the other two that were ordered via website glitch. I had to call my bank to contest two $47.31 charges.
It's amazing to me that a small business can afford to treat customers this way. I will...
Read moreWe dined here on Friday, August 12, 2022, for dinner. Which was excellent. This area is a good one for camarones, locally known as shrimp, and the menu at Seven Seas really does offer a wide variety of seafood dishes in addition to pages of more conventional Mexican dishes. Service was skillful and rapid, although we arrived in the middle of Friday Happy Hour and expected to have to wait. Sheila and I enjoyed the Presidential Margaritas while waiting a short time for the dinners.
7 Mares is not so flamboyant as most of the other Mexican Restaurants on the Peninsula, and in fact the low-key black and grey decor is quite refreshing: it is not a large restaurant, and it is not a boisterous restaurant, seemingly aimed at an older population—which of course Willamsburg can supply. On Friday evening, the food was elegantly plated and served. Portions are generous, and meats and vegetables seem very fresh indeed. The only thing on our plates that seemed a little plaintive was the Spanish Rice, but that is an item often abused everywhere.
I returned alone on Tuesday evening, August 16, 2022, hoping I could duplicate the experience I had the previous Friday. I can only suppose there was a different chef—the meal was certainly satisfying, but the plating was careless and the flair was missing. Service was still excellent, but I was glad that I had brought the family on Friday!
We will return to 7 Mares, often, I am sure; and we will recommend it to others, as it has a solid and extensive menu for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and it has its own bar menu which seems very competently executed and reasonably priced. It is certainly quieter than average even when it is packed, and it is fully staffed with experienced waiters. I...
Read moreComing from NJ we have a lot of options for Mexican and Latino food. 7 Mares is better. While in Williamsburg we wanted to try local restaurants near our hotel and decided to try this after reading the reviews. 7 Mares did not disappoint one bit. The food tasted great. I got the Alcapolco Fajitas(Seafood).the amount of scallops and shrimp I got was ridiculous. They were full size scallops and large shrimp. I asked the waiter if this was the double and he said it was only the single. He said the double was much larger. I couldn’t imagine as my dish could feed at the least 2 people. My wife got the tilapia dish which also was topped with shrimp. Both our dishes were very tasty and the prices were great for what we got. Everything seemed fresh. Even the complimentary chips they gave us were great with the two dipping sauces. This place even though was crowded I’m surprised there was not a line out the door with people waiting. This could be one of the best value in Mexican Restaurants in the county. The staff were very friendly and quick. If we comeback to Williamsburg this is a place we’d...
