After spending my week in 'The Valley' and touring all of General Jackson's historical sights as well as many others (CSA White House, Jackson's Lexington Home, Grave) I thought by comparison this small pit stop on my way home wouldn't stand up to that in which I had just spent my week visiting.

I was absolutely wrong. The small-personal tour that had just 5 of us within the group was one of the most informative tours that I had been on all week. I had learned of Jackson's time in Winchester and facts that I'd never known, while, seeing Jackson relics that would make the National Park Service envious of what is to be found within this house.

The prices are incredibly reasonable, the staff was full of knowledge, and very polite. I felt very welcome and without a doubt got my monies worth. The grounds itself and home were very well up kept, with lot's of tender, love, and care.

The tour was short but well worth what you are getting to see, photos inside are not allowed.

It was one of the best museums that I had ever been in and anyone who is genuinely curious or a fan of "Stonewall" has not completed a journey regarding the man without a stop into this home. A highly encouraged place to visit, enjoy, and donate so that this home can keep in operation for many...

Great experience with the tour. The guide knew information about all the items and was very friendly. It is amazing that so much of the collection was generously donated to the mesuem from private collectors and family members. The multiple Confederate flags on display were amazing to look at. I saw a review about not liking all the Confederate things on display, such as the Confederate flag, but that is to be expected as Jackson was from the Confederacy. The mesuem is about the man Jackson and not about the Confederacy, it just so happened he was from the Confederacy. It's important to learn from past events from both sides and realize that everyone/ each situation has positives and negatives. If we don't show and learn about history, even the difficult parts of history, how can we learn from our...

We just visited "Alta Vista", Jackson's Headquarters earlier this week. The female Museum Docent was wonderful, colorful and full of knowledge. I am sorry I do not remember her name to give praise here.Jackson is one of my favorite Generals and have read much about him. She knew it all and more. It is a shame the town had encroached onto the property where the front of the house faces other homes on the row. On the stairs was a Battle Flag of General Imboden, my GGGrandfather served under in the 62nd Mounted Infantry. Well worth the visit for every history buff! I wished I had wall space for John Paul Strain's "Stonewall's Return" I did not realize it had 3D qualities when seen under the...

This was one of the best history tours we ever been on. Michael our tour guide knew everything about the headquarters and the little known facts of the house. He had expert knowledge of all the artifacts. Our tour was over 1 1/2 hours of living thru the Valley & Jackson’s events. One-of-kind Artifacts including the canteen he took his last sip of water before he died. Many items were original and we were able to see up close. Definitely worth a stop. Highly recommend this small museum. This home was once owned by Mary Tyler Moore’s Great Grandfather. He fought with Jackson.

This lovely mansion museum is located in downtown Winchester in the northern part of the Shenandoah Valley Battlefields National Historic District. The house was originally built by Lewis T Moore an ancestor of the famous TV movie actress Mary Tyler Moore. She donated money to replicate the gold gilt wallpaper in the room that General Thomas Stonewall Jackson used as his headquarters office during the Civil War from November 1861 through March 11th 1862. Our tour guide was amazing and well worth the $10 admission fee [senior discount available :-)].
