This is the kind of place I would normally like...
It was raining outside. We picked this place out after scoping out all the area cafes. We stood outside for 2 minutes while waiting for friends, then decided to go in. At first, we plopped down into a booth, but then decided we'd have more space at a round table at the window - 4 people + baby. We picked up our stuff, and tried to resettle. I'm getting the baby situated while my husband goes to the use the restroom. The owner gives him a discernible mean look. I was shocked. Then our friends come. We all go to the counter to place our order. There's no paper menus and the only large menu is on a chalkboard behind the register and is difficult to read - poorly written. So we're all trying to figure out what to order. I ask several questions about portion sizes, to which I get confused and annoyed looks from the staff. We sat down, and quickly got our food. It was ok. Home cooked and mediocre. Nothing exciting, but also not terrible.
Perhaps it was the cold looks we got from both the staff and the owner that made the food rather unappealing. On the way out, I told the owner that we normally return to the same restaurants over and over again, and were sorry to say that we wouldn't be back. He said he thought we were just there to use the bathrooms and get out of the rain. I'm not sure how, as we quickly showed interest in his menu. In any event, I advised him that if he wants repeat customers and a growing business, he should be a little kinder to his guests. He defended that he has repeat clients... and accused me of being rude to his staff (which I absolutely was not - I make a habit out of being kind to servers and store people). After that accusation, I was done with the place.
To the owner: I don't know how many people per year actually use your establishment only for the restrooms (2? 3?). But I can guarantee you that the cost of their water, soap and toilet paper, is far less than bad experiences like the one you gave me. What is the adage? A satisfied customer tells 1 person, and a dissatisfied customer tells 10?? Hopefully you'll get it someday and treat EVERYONE with respect, even the ones that are rude to you.
To everyone else: take your chances. Mediocre food for cheap prices, and a reasonable chance that you may be treated poorly. I recommend trying someplace else. There are so many other great restaurants in the area. I highly recommend the Thai place and the Jamaican place. At both you will be treated...
Read moreUsed to like coming here, unfortunately our recent experience here will be our last. On a blustery and frigid day my friends and I stopped in for some scoops. After my friend ordered her ice cream, I stepped up and browsed the selection with another friend of mine.
After looking irritated, the woman behind the counter recommended we try the brownie batter. We went for it. After our first taste I knew something was immediately wrong. There were walnuts.
My friend and I are allergic and began to have a mild reaction. I exclaimed that there are walnuts in here and there was no signage indicating this (most creameries I've been to display which flavors have nuts). The cashier looked at us disapprovingly and said, "You still have to pay for your first ice cream." This was when we were having an attack. She then said, "Ugh, are you going to fall on the floor or something?" We were shocked by this sudden outburst when we were visibly suffering. The owner came out and asked us what happened, I was able to communicate to her our ice cream had nuts. She went over without saying anything and wrote "Contains nuts" on the brownie batter sign and walked away. They didn't even offer water when they could tell we were in distress. We paid for the one ice cream my first friend got and ran out of there...
Read moreBAD BAD Business!!!!! At the Bluemont fair today bought my daughter-in-law an ice-cream cone from these people but couldn't decide on what flavour for my self. When I asked to sample the coconut flavour the lady who waited on me said they don't let people sample at the fair. She said the ice-cream was good Bla Bla Bla... So I went ahead and hesitantly bought one for my self. After tasting the buttery full fat canned milk flavoured ice ream my thought was, " If she had just let me sample it first!!." So, I went back to ask the lady to change my order because I thought is was pretty bad. I kindly asked for the safe plain vanilla flavour instead. Ice cream lady became very aggressive and said that I asked for the coconut flavour but when I tried to explain to her that if she had just let me taste it first I would of known I didn't like it. She angrily insisted that she wasn't going to compensate me either.way. In disbelief I walked away with her holding my cone in her hands as she angrily hurled insults my way. I paid $8.00 for two ice creams and walked away with one. What a Scam!!!! How can you mess up ice-cream? And they call it homemade?! Disgusting business practice! Disgusting ice-cream. PS. My daughter-in-laws ice-cream was...
