If you spend thousands of dollars on anything other than Healthcare, you are treated really well. Why? Because they appreciate your business. Why do we put up with Healthcare being such a huge exception? I arrived at Integris for a scheduled CT scan. After hunting down the place to register, I found all spaces occupied. There was no queing system or signage in place, so I stood inside the door directly across from the registration cubbies. After people qued up behind me, one of the women registering people told us to wait in a tiny alcove across from them with inadequate seating. We were supposed to keep track of who was next even though we'd been waiting in different areas.
When I was registered I was told to wait in waiting room A or B. Neither waiting area had been cleaned in a long while. The floors especially were filthy. If they would have given me some cleaning supplies, it would have made the 40 minute wait a lot more bearable. There are signs everywhere informing those who wait to let registration know if ones wait is longer than 20 minutes. Don't bother; it does no good and just makes the surly employees even more so.
If I had paid the same amount of money for a plane ticket, I would have been greeted with a smile. I would have been welcome, not viewed as an inconvenience or an unwanted visitor. If i were early, I would, for the price of my ticket, have had access to a nice lounge, often with snacks, but always perfectly clean. If there were any delays, I would have been notified. I would have been left to wonder.
I know the excuse is that Healthcare is expensive because of the cost of the machines, etc. But airplanes cost much more. Why does an airline treat people with value and respect and Healthcare facilities treat people like annoying beggars?
How can it be fixed?
I think I'm wasting my time with this review because i don't think Healthcare will ever change. I think it's one of those things that will always be badly managed because they can be. They will still make tons of money and they will never go out of business. They should be ashamed though, because they could be great and they...
Read moreI’ve gone in to the women’s center a total of three times. The first time I went, I complained of stomach and back pain at about 25 weeks pregnant. I was seen by a nurse named Etta. She hooked me up to the machines to be monitored and took a urine sample. After about an hour, she came back and said that where I was feeling pain was not where labor pain would be and that it is most likely a kidney stone. I was sent home and told to drink more water. I had a doctors appointment shortly after and my OB said that it was highly unlikely I had a kidney stone. That in itself was weird. The second time I was admitted, I was 30 weeks and I was having pain in the same place as the first time I was seen. The nurse was a super sweet, amazing women that listened to me and confirmed I was having contractions. I was admitted that night and told I was dilated to a one already. They told me to take it easy and try not to do anything to bring on early labor as I’ve already had preterm contractions. Went in for the third time today for more contraction-like pain and was placed with the nurse from the first time, Etta. Again, I was having pain in the same place as the previous times. I was told that it wasn’t labor pain, that that’s not where labor pain would even be (even though last time it was confirmed contractions). She said I was not having contractions, but it was just the baby growing. Sent me home with nothing but “drink water”. The only reason I gave one star is for the sweet nurse I dealt with the second time I was seen. Etta made me feel very unheard and blown off, especially as a first time mom. I dread going back during the day for any pain just because I don’t want to feel like my concerns aren’t being heard by her. She was very dismissive and acted like she didn’t believe me at all. I hope that when the time comes and I am actually in labor, I don’t have to deal with her because I don’t think she would take me...
Read moreOne week ago my mother-in-law fell and broke both femurs. She made her way to Canadian Valley Integris Hospital. Once there it was discovered one femur was broken. She let the star know her other leg was broken as well. They all blew her off. She then went up to her room, then back ICU, then to surgery, back to ICU, still complaining about her other leg. Her doctor, DR. UMOH visited the room for 2 mins dismissed her about her leg and ordered an X-ray of the knee. Thank goodness the X-ray tech pays attention and asked to X-ray her femur. The second femur was broken, so she sat at a hospital for a day and a half in pain. We asked to replace Dr UMOH and it was granted we were assigned Dr Duffie. We try to talk to about it. She made excuses and even said “this isn’t the first time it has happened”; “We are human and make mistakes”. Well this one was avoidable since the patient was telling them her leg was broke. There also was. Head injury and we were denied a CT scan for 27 hours. Even the nurse was shocked no CT scan was done. Wait there is more. After surgery no blood clot preventing socks were put on and her feet swole 5 times the normal size. Now it is time to move her to another facility. The liaison was more concerned with getting rid of her than finding the right spot. They sent her to a place that has an avg stay of ten days. She can’t even do any weight bearing training for 6-8 weeks. They even lied to this facility to get her moved. She has to be off morphine for 24 hours to even get admitted and she had morphine 8 hrs before she left. She asked for mirlax and fiber powder. She was told they don’t have any. She was there 6 days and no bowel movement. This should raise some concern. If you are reading this and feel this your same story please contact the...
