NHÀ THỜ LỚN HÀ NỘI – DẤU ẤN CỦA DÒNG THỜI GIAN Nhà thờ Chính tòa Hà Nội có tước hiệu là Nhà thờ Thánh Giuse (Saint Joseph), hay thường được gọi là Nhà thờ Lớn Hà Nội là nhà thờ Chính tòa của Tổng Giáo Phận Hà Nội. Nhà thờ lớn Hà Nội nằm trên một khu đất rộng ở số 40 phố Nhà Chung, phường Hàng Trống, quận Hoàn Kiếm, Hà Nội. Liền kề với Tòa tổng giám mục Hà Nội, Dòng Mến Thánh Giá Hà Nội, Tòa khâm sứ Hà Nội. Là một trong những công trình kiến trúc nổi tiếng và quan trọng tại Hà Nội. Nhà thờ Lớn Hà Nội là một trong những công trình Thiên Chúa Giáo được xây dựng sớm nhất ở đây, từ cuối thế kỷ XIX. Phía trước nhà thờ là một quảng trường rộng, với một bức tượng Đức Mẹ Maria, tước hiệu Nữ vương Hòa bình đang bồng Chúa Hài Đồng. Bức tượng được làm bằng kim loại, đặt giữa khu vực này. Thuở ban đầu, nhà thờ tạm được làm bằng gỗ. Nhà thờ hiện tại được xây dựng từ năm 1882 tới 1886 thì hoàn tất, mức đầu tư khoảng 200.000 Franc Pháp. Lễ khánh thành nhà thờ được tổ chức vào dịp lễ Giáng Sinh năm 1886. Nhà thờ lớn Hà Nội được thiết kế theo phong cách Gothic, với nhiều đặc điểm kiến trúc cổ điển của thời Trung cổ châu Âu. Và được lấy cảm hứng từ nhà thờ Notre Dame ở Paris (Nhà thờ Đức Bà Paris), Pháp. Hay nhà thờ Chính tòa của Tổng Giáo phận Hà Nội trước đó là Vương cung thánh đường Sở Kiện (Nhà thờ Kẻ Sở) nhưng với quy mô nhỏ hơn. Vật liệu xây dựng chính của nhà thờ là gạch đất nung, mái ngói đất nung, tường trát bằng giấy bồi. Công trình có chiều dài 55m, chiều rộng 33m, mái cao 17m và hai tháp chuông cao 31m. Công trình có bố cục mặt đứng được chia làm 3 phần. Với hai tháp chuông cao vút ở hai bên, ở giữa là khối thấp hơn được kết thúc bằng đỉnh tường hình tam giác với cây Thánh giá bằng đá. Ngoài ra, nhà thờ còn có một bộ chuông, gồm một quả chuông lớn (treo ở tháp bên trái, nặng 4,5 tấn) và bốn quả chuông nhỏ (treo ở tháp bên phải), trị giá 20.000 Franc Pháp thời đó. Đặc biệt là chiếc đồng hồ lớn gắn giữa mặt tiền nhà thờ. Đồng hồ có báo khắc, báo giờ, hệ thống chuông báo được liên kết với 5 quả chuông treo trên hai tháp. Chiếc đồng hồ này được đặt hàng sản xuất tại Pháp vào năm 1895, hiệu Louis – Delphin Odobey (số 266). Đã được vận chuyển về Việt Nam, lắp đặt vào năm 1901. Công trình có cửa chính ở chính giữa và các cửa phụ ở hai bên, tất cả đều có hình dạng vòm nhọn theo phong cách kiến trúc đặc trưng của Gothic. Các ô cửa sổ bằng kính màu thể hiện những bức tranh Thánh được nhập từ Pháp cũng là nét đặc trưng của phong cách này, tạo ra nguồn ánh sáng tự nhiên bên trong lòng nhà thờ. Kiến trúc Gothic của công trình cũng có sự kết hợp với kiến trúc bản địa, thể hiện ở hệ thống mái ngói đất nung bên ngoài và các chi tiết chạm trổ nội thất bên trong. Khu vực Cung Thánh và các khu vực ban thờ hai bên được trang trí bằng gỗ chạm trổ hoa văn, sơn son thếp vàng rất tinh xảo và độc đáo, thể hiện tính nghệ thuật dân gian truyền thống. Và do đó, đây là sản phẩm của sự giao lưu văn hoá Đông Tây hết sức đặc sắc. Ở trung tâm Cung Thánh là tượng thánh Giuse bế Chúa Giêsu cao hơn 2m, được chế tác từ đất nung và các Thánh ở hai bên. Bên trong thánh đường còn có ba ngôi mộ của ba vị Hồng y nằm phía trên gần khu vực Cung Thánh. Đó là mộ của Hồng y Trịnh Như Khuê ở giữa, Hồng y Phạm Đình Tụng và Hồng y Trịnh Văn Căn ở hai bên. Đặc biệt, trên gác đàn có cây đàn Đại Phong Cầm (Pipe Organ) có khối lượng lên đến 9 tấn, cao 7m, rộng 6,5m, dày 4m với 1.696 ống được chế tác vào năm 1993 bởi bàn tay nghệ nhân sản xuất nhạc cụ người Bỉ - Guido Schumacher. Cây đàn này được tặng cho nhà thờ Chính tòa Hà Nội vào năm 2022 bởi Sun City Hall - trung tâm dưỡng lão tại thành phố Itami, tỉnh Hyogo, Nhật Bản.
