Was very excited to come here after seeing great reviews and wanting to have a nice dinner on a day trip in Salzburg. Unfortunately, our expectations were not met.

We did not have a reservation (other reviews pointed to this not being a problem), so we came right at opening at 17:00 and were told that we could be seated until 19:00 (when our table was reserved). This was no problem, and we were thrilled that we were able to get a spot, as we noticed other people coming in soon after and being sent away due to lack of available spots.

The waitstaff wasn’t the best, and frankly seemed quite annoyed when basic requests were asked (e.g for utensils). In all honesty, they seemed very stressed (cannot blame them, as the restaurant was packed), but this still affected our visit. Perhaps a staffing issue that needs to be resolved.

As a group of four, two of us (including myself) got the soup with veg, noodles and sausage, while the others got the paprika chicken and pasta verdura. Everything was just ok — the soup’s “sausage” was essentially just hot dog meat (not really what we had in mind as a “sausage”), and the broth was quite bland. Overall, not the best food, but also not the absolute worst.

I really wanted to like this restaurant and to give a glowing review, but I really did not feel that it delivered at all.

As a side note, other reviews say that the restaurant only takes cash: this seems to no longer be the case, as we...

My husband and I had a wonderful dinner here. He ordered the beef bourguignon (which was a special that day) and I ordered the roast pork. Both were delicious. Word of warning to future patrons, the grated white, fluffy stuff on your plate is very potent horseradish.

The restaurant is primarily located in the basement of the building, down a narrow flight of stairs, there is no elevator. There are 2 rooms in the basement: one next to the open kitchen and the other where we got seated which contains the bar as well as rustic brick archways. There are some tables on the much smaller ground floor. There were also tables outside but these weren't set up due to the rainy weather.

Because there is no way to make an online reservation, we emailed the owner of the place we would be staying at to ask her if she could make reservations for us. Thankfully, she did, the place was pretty much full when we arrived at 7 pm on...

Summary. Would return and re-order the same dishes! Excellent quality and service, and the bill was €100 for a very content 2A2C party.

Food. Best semmelknoedel we have experienced over 4 days. Pork and the crackling was on point. Cheese dumpling soup was a pleasant surprise. My daughter was upset there was no schnitzel on the menu but quickly forgot her woes after tasting the paprika chicken and spatzle (amazing). Service. Prompt, polite, great English. Didn't have to want for anything. Tip - make a.booking. we were lucky at 6pm to get 80min at a table before the reservation arrived. Atmosphere. Authentic cellar. Not crammed in. I've deducted a point as our table looked into the kitchen. Whilst it's great to watch the chefs at work, we also saw the open supply closets and access points, and brighter lights that differed from other parts of the restaurant. Toilets very...

This is definitely a cut above many of the restaurants in the area, and I hesitate to say so publicly because now more of you will find this place and make it harder to get a table… 😅but ah well the team here works hard and deserves the praise. It’s clearly a witty team with a fun personality that shows in some of the notices, menu, etc. The drinks selection is reasonably broad and the food is delicious. If it’s offered on the day you go, I can highly recommend to you the goulash with spätzle 😋We sat in the keller (cellar) which has a nice relaxed ambiance with a chill playlist. There’s also a semi outdoor option sitting under vaulted ceilings that you might consider. Anyway yes this is well worth your visit, so I suppose queue up or book in and I’ll wait to join just after 😅

We were one of the first guests after they opened in the afternoon and were so happy with everything we ordered. We had tzatziki as an apetizer with fresh baguette and cucumbers, the main dish was Gnocchi with mushroom filling and a nice, cheese sauce, pork steak with pepper sauce, potatoes and green beans with bacon. This harmonized perfectly with the meat. My friends had Fleischstrudel which is basically the savoury cousin of Apfelstrudel. It came with a nice creamy sauce and sour cream. We were amazed by the chocolate cake we had. The strawberries which were only used as decoration on the whipped cream were very tasty.. these are those details that make a restaurant worth visiting.
