Hotel Kandilj Sarajevo - Old town — Hotel in City of Sarajevo

Excellent staff. They were very very helpfull and polite. The hotel over all is very cute, comfy and cozy. The rooms were small yet very clean and quiet. The breakfast was authentic. We made a mistak while booking and booked a room with 3 single beds instead of a room with a sigle double bed. The single bed was comfortable yet very narrow.

The only down side of the hotel is the lack of power outlets in the room. And i must tell it can be hard to find the hotel. There is only one sign of the hotel which is very small and hanged high from the street. Also facing only one side of the street. If you are walking up the street (from the side of river) you have a chance of seing the sign but we had a rental car and the navigation madeus drove down that street and the sign was not visible. We drove past once. When we came to the same street the second time some locals helped us find the entrance, which is just a metal gate that leads you to an alley that looks like someones houses parking area. We stayed here for 3 nights and had a room on the top floor. It took a couple of minutes to find the place as it is tucked away in an alley behind two gates, however the location is excellent close to old town (300m). The staff was super friendly and available 24/7. Our room was small but cosy and clean. Neither the house nor the decoration were modern but for me that was the best part as the atmosphere was unique! The shower had good water pressure and the AC worked excellently however was a bit noisy. The location was also quite quiet. Breakfast was served in the basement and there was a lovely lady preparing omelettes and Bosnian coffee at request. La pensione si trova sulla riva sinistra della Miljiaka, a 5 minuti dalla moschea dell'Imperatore, dal padiglione della musica e dal ponte latino (quello dove fu assassinato l'arciduca Francesco Ferdinando). Ho trascorso 3 notti in uno nell'appartamento Lejl, un nuovissimo monolocale da 3/4 posti (letto matrimoniale e due divani) pulitissimo e dotato di cucina, tv, aria condizionata, wifi e un bagno abbastanza grande (no lavatrice e bidet) situato in una palazzina a circa 500 metri dopo la pensione (c'è una ripida salita). Le strade di accesso all'appartamento sono 2: una è un'arteria più frequentata, l'altra una via più nascosta con palazzi fatiscenti dove la sera vedevamo spesso dei ragazzini poco raccomandabili ma non pericolosi oltre a cani e gatti randagi (che però di vedono un pò in tutta la città). La pensione è gestita da due ragazzi molto giovani ed efficienti. Non solo ci hanno offerto il transfer gratuito dalla stazione degli autobus (la Lukavica a Istocno Sarajevo a circa 30 minuti dal centro della città), ma, visto l'arrivo alla mattina alle 7, ci hanno anche offerto una colazione aggiuntiva senza ulteriori addebiti e il check in immediato). Pagando in contanti (accettano gli Euro senza problemi) ci è stato persino accordato uno sconto sul prezzo complessivo. La colazione è sia dolce (marmellate, pane, yogurt e cereali) che salata (omelette, formaggi, affettati) con possibilità di avere the, caffè, latte, succo di frutta. Il locale della colazione è piccino, ma molto grazioso arredato in stile bosniaco/turco. I ragazzi si sono rivelati disponibilissimi sia in fase di prenotazione che durante il soggiorno, consegnandoci una cartina, spiegandoci i punti di maggiore interesse e i relativi mezzi di trasporto per arrivarci, nonchè sono stati attenti a soddisfare ogni nostra esigenza. ||Soggiornando a Sarajevo durante il film festival che prevede una serie di eventi anche serali, nonchè molto movimento e rumore nel centro storico fino alle prime ore del mattino, la scelta di dormire dall'altro lato del fiume, ma decisamente vicini a tutte le attrazioni principali, si è rivelata azzeccata. La salita all'appartamento si rivela abbastanza impegnativa, ma del resto la città è in una vallata.. inoltre la famosa birreria Sarajevska Pivara è a 5 minuti a piedi così come il cimitero tanto caro a Le Corbusier....
