Bold Flavors but a Bit Too Greasy, Saved by Impeccable Service
Our visit to Ćevabdžinica Željo in Sarajevo was a mixed bag of experiences. The place, quite famous for its local Bosnian cuisine, has a rustic charm and an authentic, bustling ambiance that provides an intriguing glimpse into the heart of the city's culinary scene.
The food, while boasting of bold and powerful flavors typical of Bosnian cuisine, was unfortunately a tad too greasy for our liking. The much-raved-about Ćevapi, though succulent and well-spiced, left a greasy aftertaste that was hard to ignore. This was a recurrent theme across other dishes too, making it difficult to fully appreciate the otherwise rich and robust flavor profile that they offered.
On the brighter side, what truly shone at Ćevabdžinica Željo was the service. The staff was attentive, efficient, and incredibly warm, turning our dining experience into a delight despite our qualms about the food. Their knowledge about the menu and their willingness to assist us in navigating through the different dishes was impressive.
In conclusion, while the excessive greasiness in the food was a bit of a letdown, the wonderful service at Ćevabdžinica Željo saved the day. If you're a fan of heavy, rich flavors and don't mind a little extra oil, you might find the experience more to your liking. For us, a slight toning down of the greasiness would elevate this eatery from...
Read moreAlthough the food it was decent but nothing extraordinairy special. My experience in Sarajevo is that there are only 3 things on the menu in every restaurant, and they’re always the same. It’s basically a piece of meat with a piece of greasy bread, cream cheese and onions. Low quality, low price, but sort of tasty.
My problem with this specific place is that it’s a competition/race to order, eat, pay and “gtfo”.
From the moment you step a foot into this restaurant, sit down, have dinner, pay and step back outside, will take you approximitaly no more than 10-15 minutes.. in a sit-in dining type of visit I mean.. not an order pick-up.
The reason for this hasty way of eating here, is because the owners let/lure more and more customers in, even though this tiny place is completely packed already. As a result you have new customers standing and rubbing against you alongside your table, waiting for you to quickly eat your meal and get out. Now this was not just the case with us, but with everyone. We saw the locals eat this way at all other tables too. Maybe it’s a cultural thing? But rushing dinner in just 10 minutes is not what I like. And this was actually the only place where they worked this way.
Can definitely not recommend if you value having a good quality time during your dinner.
For pick up this place is probably a good choice since they’re fast and cheap and it tasted...
Read moreThe place is very cool, the staff are very friendly, the food and drinks are great value for money, and the location is directly in the middle of the old town in the heart of the city.
The traditional food here is highly recommended, there are various types if delicious dishes and here's my recommendation: The kebab is the best in all the menu but I would recommend to get the small portion so you can order other dishes to have a good overview on the rest of the menu and ask the waiter to add extra white souse or cheese There is delicious sausages dish with mustard it's highly recommended and the other great dish is the kotlet. The fresh yoghurt is great traditional drink you have to try it with the kebab The place is very crowded in the rush hour so the waiter will tell you that the order will take from 30 to 60 minutes to be ready and you can decide whether to wait or to leave but you'll definitely miss tge opportunity of having the best Bosnian food
There are 3 branches in the same area but zeljo 1 is tge best
Note that during rush hour they only make kebab in the menu so you won't find any other dishes othere than thatbut at night you'll find the full menu.
All in all it's the best food experience you...
