FOOD: The burek is delicious. No doubt about that. It’s not the best I’ve come across traveling for 1 month in the Balkans, but it’s definitely worth a try. Comes in 4 flavours; cheese, cheese & spinach, meat, potatoes. We tried the cheese & spinach because they ran out of meat and it was really nice. You can add yogurt on the side as you like. PRICE: 5KM per portion equivalent to €2.5 at todays current rate. They will weigh the burek with an old scale in front of you but it was so busy we didn’t understand how much each portion was suppose to be. And we didn’t question this. SERVICE & ATMOSPHERE: I put this section together as it is interchangeable in my option. A few things that was notable and can be improved: -the building has one small entrance, albeit it’s an old building and they want to keep the traditions, having all the comings and goings through this one entrance contributed to the chaotic atmosphere. -the waiters/busboys cleaning/serving the outdoor seating area came in and out of this entrance also. The customer line was overflowing to the alleyway from this entrance, and they were all bumping into each other. -the 1 lady taking the orders, cutting and weighing the burek also calculated and received payments. Cash only! Don’t even try with the credit cards 😂 a customer in front of us was disappointed to find he wasn’t allowed to pay with card. at some point, the paper wrapping fell all over the floor and that was not-so-discretely placed back on top of the others left on the counter. 😅 oh well, it will add to the flavour. -the service staff were friendly in their own way once the lunch rush subsided. Overall, it’s a must visit in Sarajevo. It just needs to improve on its work-flow...
Read moreI do not know where to start from. A local recommended this place to us, so we had to try.
We arrived in the middle of the day and managed to get one plate of borek to share as we wanted to try first. Getting this one particular plate was a mission anyway as waiting staff ignores you on purpose because you are not a local? Well do not forget, tourists made you popular not locals... Anyway, I had to go in and grab this one plate of borek to try after being ignored in the first couple of tries. The taste was okay but we said let's come back in the evening when it is less busy so we can actually enjoy proper portions.
We were really hyped to try properly as it was not as busy as morning. Again, got ignored when it was a slow service. I went inside to grab my food again. BUT, here starts the problem. I had a meat borek and my friend had a cheese one. Both tasted okay, not blown away by any means. Next day, I have woken up to diarrhoea and vomiting because I was POISONED by the meat borek as all the other stuff we had the previous day with my friend was same but only she went for cheese one instead. My next day got completely ruined as I had to spend it between bed and toilet.
Save your stomach, money and dignity and go somewhere else. Do not fall for this tourist trap (even though they ignore tourists) and have a chill time...
Read moreTotally overrated. We went there because of the online recommendations. The food was burnt on the outside and not cooked inside. I have had Bosnak borek many times before and this was by far the worst. The waiter was cleaning the plates with her bare hands and picking off to the food residue on her way to the table. We asked her to bring new plates and she replied with an attitude and only took one plate and did not bring anything back. We should have left at that point. All of the plates were dirty and oily, and we ended up not using them. We used napkins instead. The utensils were also dirty and we cleaned them with napkins. Some of us and i included ate with our hands. They also brought the yoghurt as we were finishing the food! it is not that they remembered, we had to ask for it. Table was dirty, too. We don't think they cleaned it after the previous customers. We paid 50 Bosnian Marks for 2kg of disgusting food. Don't go there unless you want to share a similar experience and don't reward this horrible service. I hope I won't get...
