Sunday happy hour for that 50% off pizzas! It almost doesn't matter which half off pizza you choose because it's all so cheap! Wheeler Hut: Get!! I loved this one so much as the crispy pizza crust combined with the juicy mushrooms is like a match made in heaven. Big Bird: Maybe? Not sure if it was just this pizza but it was a lot softer and the crust more flaccid. It was still enjoyable but I preferred the above pizza way more. Something I didn't know was also the honey+chili oil combo which blew my mind.... make sure to ask for this if they don't already give it to you. $10 steins are also amazing (it's two pints basically) but you really have to commit to drinking that much. Our server was super super friendly and fun so that just made dinner so much better too. Food: 8/10 Service: 8/10 Atmosphere: 7/10 Value: 10/10

Spontaneously visited The Bear Street Tavern when on the hunt for vegan pizza in Banff and WOW what a gem. We were blown away by 'The Wheeler' - pesto on pizza is my absolute favourite and we were not disappointed. So much so that we brought a visiting friend for our second visit a couple of weeks ago. We got 'The Wheeler' again, along with 'The Mediterranean' this time - good still but not on the level of the Wheeler. But both pizzas were overly salty to the point that it took away from our enjoyment of the food, and left me wondering whether we'd return. But now I don't even know if we will ever return, after our bill of $100 for three people WITHOUT sides or starters and with just one drink. I was absolutely disgusted to discover that this was because we'd been changed an extra $5 EACH per pizza for vegan cheese. Now I've had a lot of vegan pizza in a lot of different places but I've NEVER paid more than an extra $2-3 for the vegan cheese substitute. Myself and my husband were appalled, particularly as the food quality this time really didn't match up. We won't be back sadly unless this vegan tax changes.

This tavern was featured on You Gotta Eat Here. The hostess was friendly and offered to seat us quickly. She asked if we could leave our baby stroller outside, but my newborn grandson was sleeping in it so she accommodated us. We did state that if they couldn’t accommodate us we easily could find someplace else to eat and we were okay going somewhere else (it happens and it is not a big deal). We were seated and our server came to our table right away. He was new so he did not know how some of the menu items tasted, but other servers chimed in and provided us with some suggestions. The spinach dip was ooey gooey goodness!! The pizzas were delicious and I loved the Mac and cheese!! The margaritas weren’t the greatest. The three star rating would have been higher if the manager didn’t make it obvious that she disapproved of us having a stroller, yet she was accommodating for another family and their stroller. And what was with the towel wrapped around the pipe?

This is going to be a very weird comment but here it goes- we got the spinach cheese dip for appetizers and thats a 5/5, It was delicious, I could have it all day! We got garlic fingers for appetizers as well and it was 4/5 just a little bit greasy but still delicious! And for mains, we got 3 pizzas which were just horrible, 1/5! They were so greasy that the center of the slice just tore off, flavour was OKAY.. we got the godfather, big bird and the other name I completely forgot. After having all that greasy we were all feeling very sick.. the server was very nice but mentioned they are short staffed which is understandable for banff. Dont be deceived by the pictures they look really good! :P I would say when ordering just instruct them not to put so much oil

Pretty fantastic food overall based on what we ordered for the most part. The pizza there is honestly so good because they make their dough a certain way, so I loved the texture and the thickness of it. Probably one of the best pizza’s I’ve had in my life, but again, I’ve never been to Italy. So my bar is not too high. The lamb rib sauce was also absolutely delicious and the texture of the lamb meat was not bad as well. However, I do not recommend the lettuce wrap. The steak meat on our wraps were cold and the texture was off as well. The beers from the tasting order was not bad, wouldn’t hurt to try it if you like beer. Overall a great experience because we were lucky enough to get a good seat during a weekend even when it was pretty packed.
