Traveling here for a conference and was with a group of 6 co-workers. Made reservations in advance for 7 PM and although we were seated right away, we didn't get our food until 1.5 hours after.
I asked what was the delay for? Because we never received any communication from our server about the delay. Some things to note:
yes nice atmosphere and restaurant aesthetics but food and service was below expectations👎 server was cool but never told us there would be a long wait time for food ⏳ for a fancy restaurant like this, you'd expect bread for the table, but nope, nothing, nada. 🥖 the food was good but not great and not worth the money, as portions were super small 🤏
Unfortunate, because the people here were really cool and the atmosphere is pretty. April the manager on site did come by after I asked the server why the wait was so long. She came by and apologized and said it's because they had an influx of groups come in for graduation celebrations. 🎓 The restaurant has 2 floors and only the top floor was full - maybe they didn't have enough staff on site who knows? I did tell April that we would have appreciated any kind of communication from our server and she apologized and said she was new. She did say she would provide feedback to the back of house as they have huddles at the end of each night.
they ended up giving us dessert for free (1 of each piece = 3 desserts to share for the table) they also removed one dish from the bill after my friend shared with April that it was cold.
Although April handled everything really well and she checked in on us and was very lovely, we wouldn't have had this if I didn't share feedback while there.
This spot receives 3/5 stars, a disappointing experience. Appreciated April's top notch customer service but that only came after we spoke up.
Would not come back here. Unless things change - change and clear communication is needed here. This review was written in June of 2025, so take it with a grain of salt as I believe with good leadership, progress can be made. I have hopes for...
Read moreWe had an extraordinary dining experience at The Five Fisherman yesterday, and it was one to remember! The evening began with an amuse-bouche of salmon, a delightful teaser that set the tone for the evening. For our appetizer, we savored the beef tartare—it was beautifully seasoned and absolutely melted in the mouth.
The highlight of the night was their signature 5 fish dish. Each piece of seafood was cooked to perfection, showcasing the restaurant’s commitment to quality and freshness. The pairing of flavors was exquisite, making every bite a delight. One of the best risotto I’ve ever tasted!!! 👌
To top it all off, our server, Laura, was phenomenal. She was attentive, knowledgeable, and made sure our experience was flawless from start to finish.
Paired with a bottle of Tidal Bay, this dinner was an unforgettable journey through the flavors of Nova Scotia. Note of peach, citrus and pear. 👌
Highly recommend The Five Fisherman for anyone looking to indulge in an exceptional dining experience. We need a location to Toronto!
Ps. I think there is room for improvement for your hosting team on the seating arrangement. We weren’t happy with the table but the gentleman never came back to give a positive or negative answer. Good part we were so happy with Laura! Then, a table of five wanted to move to the couches which he couldn’t do it but another table(of 2) was able to get that giant table. I mean come on… you are giving an exceptional service and are definitely better than Four Seasons Toronto! Your hosts...
Read moreOur flight back to Toronto was scheduled for 10 PM, so we decided to make the most of our last evening in Halifax by having dinner somewhere near the Prince George Hotel. While browsing for nearby restaurants on Google, we came across this spot and thought it looked promising—so we decided to give it a try.
As we walked in, we were surprised to discover that the building actually houses two different restaurants. Since we didn’t have a reservation, the hostess offered us bar seating upstairs at The Five Fishermen, which we gladly accepted.
The ambiance upstairs was warm, stylish, and welcoming, perfect for a relaxing dinner. We were served by a cool and friendly bartender who made us feel right at home. We decided to start with two appetizers, followed by our main courses. Everything we ordered was cooked beautifully and tasted amazing. I’m a huge fan of seafood, and this place definitely delivered on flavor and quality.
To top it all off, the staff surprised us with a sweet gesture at the end of our meal in celebration of our anniversary. It was a thoughtful touch that truly made the evening feel extra special and memorable.
If you’re in Halifax and looking for a nice spot to enjoy a quality meal—especially if you love seafood—I highly recommend checking this place out. The service, food, and atmosphere were all on point, and it was a perfect way to wrap...
