We had an extraordinary dining experience at The Five Fisherman yesterday, and it was one to remember! The evening began with an amuse-bouche of salmon, a delightful teaser that set the tone for the evening. For our appetizer, we savored the beef tartare—it was beautifully seasoned and absolutely melted in the mouth. The highlight of the night was their signature 5 fish dish. Each piece of seafood was cooked to perfection, showcasing the restaurant’s commitment to quality and freshness. The pairing of flavors was exquisite, making every bite a delight. One of the best risotto I’ve ever tasted!!! 👌 To top it all off, our server, Laura, was phenomenal. She was attentive, knowledgeable, and made sure our experience was flawless from start to finish. Paired with a bottle of Tidal Bay, this dinner was an unforgettable journey through the flavors of Nova Scotia. Note of peach, citrus and pear. 👌 Highly recommend The Five Fisherman for anyone looking to indulge in an exceptional dining experience. We need a location to Toronto! Ps. I think there is room for improvement for your hosting team on the seating arrangement. We weren’t happy with the table but the gentleman never came back to give a positive or negative answer. Good part we were so happy with Laura! Then, a table of five wanted to move to the couches which he couldn’t do it but another table(of 2) was able to get that giant table. I mean come on… you are giving an exceptional service and are definitely better than Four Seasons Toronto! Your hosts can do better.

Overall, our dinner experience at the Five Fishermen was great. We had Acadian style mussels to start. Though they were quite good, they did not particularly stand out compared to other mussels I have had elsewhere. I also wish it came with a little bit of bread on the side because they were cooked in a flavourful broth that could have been appreciated more than just having to discard it. The chowder was amazing. Perfectly portioned and very generously filled with scallops, fish and shrimp. (Every spoonful of chowder was overflowing with seafood-wow) The cost for a bowl is on par with basic restaurants and take out places in the area- so I think its an excellent value for what it is. The highlight of our meal however, was the Arctic char. This char had the most beautiful char on it (see picture attached). Cooked to perfection and ever so moist. The simple preparation allowed the flavours of the fish to shine through, so much so that you don’t even need the butter it comes with. (We chose the maple infused butter which was very fragrant). The atmosphere is very modern and sleek, which was pleasantly interesting in contrast to the historic building.

Atmosphere 5/5 - Menu 5/5 - Service 3/5 - Food 4/5 - Location 5/5 Cocktails 5/5 What a treat to dine at the 5 fishermen this weekend. Such a lovely spot with great music, we had the tuna tartare which was delicious and everything you’d want in such a dish. The lobster tower (which is what drew us to this restaurant ) was tasty. Cocktails were delicious. The tuna & umami fried rice was ok, I felt the mushrooms inside the dish over powered all of the other delicate flavours to the point where it tasted like mushroom fried rice. The restaurant seemed understaffed which gave the feeling of the restaurant being really busy when actually it wasn’t and so things felt kind of slow. But no harm done, overall our server was really nice, the staff thoughtfully served us complimentary champagne and a dessert for our anniversary and we had a great night. I invite you to visit this restaurant if you want an edge up on your typical halifax local fare, this place has a Japanese- Asian flair. You will not be disappointed. Pictured: cocktails south end & sparrows nest, tuna tartare, nori chips, lobster tower, tuna & umami fried rice.

Overall a very disappointing experience. The decor is nice, the smell is the main dinning room was a little strong. (fishy). The portions for the price were very small. I usually don't mind small portions at higher end restaurants, but then the food should be excellent, or at least above average. We found the food to be lacking flavour. I had the lamb with a lobster tail. The lamb was cooked well but lacked seasoning and flavour. The lobster tail for $25.00 extra was no bigger than a jumbo prawn. My colleague had the Halibut which was totally dry and the overall meal was barely enough food to satisfy a child. Same with the appetizers. I had the Chef's Cesar and have had better at much lower end restaurants. My colleague had the clam chowder and he also found it below average. They did comp us a glass of wine each and a small dessert, but in in no way made up for a meal that cost us combine over $250.00 plus tip, especially when leaving still hungry. Service as attentive and have no complaints. they did apologize for the fry Halibut, but a glass of wine and a dessert just didn't make up for it.

Relaxed, chill vibe with great energy and even better staff - The Five Fishermen is not to be missed on a trip to Halifax. I started with a glass of Zenato valpolicella and the pork belly tostadas. They were so delicious, I forgot to take a photo, so that tells you something. The flavour was unbelievable! For my main, I had “The Five Fish” featuring salmon, halibut, lobster, shrimp and scallops on a bed of risotto. Now, it comes with a pea risotto, but I opted for the lobster risotto, and if you are a lobster fan, this is definitely the way to go! (Now I want to go back and try it with the pea risotto to compare the flavour of the sweet peas with the salty ocean fare. Yum!) I paired my main with a big glass of the Jost Tidal Bay - my absolute favourite. I even had dessert - I tried the rum cake, which was delicious, but it came on a slate, which I realize is a trendy thing for restaurants to do now, but just seems a bit silly to me. Anyway, an excellent meal, with knowledgeable, well-trained staff in a historic location, with a thoroughly modern decor, I highly recommend it. ❤️🐟

I had the pleasure of dining at the Five Fishermen restaurant and it was an incredible experience. The seafood was simply amazing - fresh, flavorful, and expertly prepared. Every dish was a true delight for the senses. The atmosphere was cozy and premium, making for a wonderful dining experience. The decor and ambiance were perfect for a special occasion or a romantic evening out. The attention to detail in the design and layout of the restaurant was impressive, creating a warm and inviting environment that made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. But what really made our visit to Five Fishermen exceptional was the impeccable service we received. The staff were friendly, attentive, and went above and beyond to make sure that our every need was met. Our server was extremely knowledgeable about the menu and the wine list, offering great recommendations that perfectly complemented our meal. Overall, I cannot recommend Five Fishermen enough. If you are looking for amazing seafood in a premium, cozy atmosphere, with impeccable service, this is the place for you.
