We have stayed at this hotel and were quite satisfied, …but this time was AWFUL! The trouble started with check-in. We were sent to our room and the key didn’t work. … not a big deal but I had to go back down to front office (with a painfully slow elevator) to get it fixed. The (very) nice girl at front office reprogrammed the key and even contacted a housekeeper to make sure that the door opened for us. When we first walked into the room, …we immediately noticed duct tape around the a/c unit. (quite tacky and I was hoping it wasn’t supposed to hold the a/c unit in place since we were on the 7th floor) …I was not going back down to complain again! I then went to hang up our coats, …unfortunately, …there was only 1 hanger in the closet! (It is winter time, ...we had 2 coats (plus our clothes to hang up.) Then I went to put clothes in one of the drawers. … they were broken too!
Whirlpool Room It was advertised as a room with a whirlpool tub for 2. There might have been (almost) enough room for 2 (but one of you would have had the water spout in their back!) …lots of room for one, … but with only 4 jets … it really wasn’t worth the trouble anyway! Then we could not find the switch for the pump, ... we finally found it, …BEHIND the washroom door! Getting in and out of the tub was also a bit dicey. There were no handles or grab bars. When getting out of the tub I stepped on a transition strip between the tiles and the carpet that was quite sharp.
Pool The pool was open, .. unfortunately. We went for a swim and were the only ones there, which was nice. I noticed my eyes were burning a bit but never thought much of it. About an hour after getting out of the pool, …my eyes were on fire! There was FAR TOO MUCH CHLORINE in the pool. After a shower and cold compresses my eyes finally settled down a bit but were still burning the next day. When we got home our bathing suits smelled like a bleach bottle!
A couple positives The front office clerk was very pleasant and seemed to want to help! The coffee in the morning was awesome! … I went back down for a second cup. The girl at the breakfast bar in the morning was also very pleasant. Unfortunately we got a bag breakfast that had a stale muffin, …stale croissant, a breakfast bar and a warm tetra orange juice. There was also fresh oranges and bananas which were...

This was devastating as it was a 10th birthday request and the birthday boy ended up with a pretty serious rash on 50%+ of his upper body. Otherwise the pool would have been fine. The hot tub was pretty grimey the second day but was drained due to complaint. Sauna was nice and hot, however half way through the second day the upper wood planks were damaged and not properly secured. I'm ok at 115lbs but would have been bad news for a larger person. Unfortunately this location has some really rowdy, disrespectful guests.
The room was "tidy" but not clean upon arrival. There was some pretty nasty body hair left in the bathroom, an empty plastic water bottle beside the bed and some pretty thick dust on the lamps. Phone was pretty nasty The room smelled quite strongly of some kind of chemical. Thankfully, I brought an air purifier with hostipal grade additive.
The beds were very firm, borderline Morgue slab with weird small square pillows. Again, glad I brought my own. One of the chairs in the room was broken. Glad I just put my suitcase on it and didn't sit on it myself.
The room had NO FRIDGE, NO MICROWAVE, NO BLUE BOX, NO FAMILY CHANNEL.
ice machine and microwave available on main floor.
The staff however, was very nice and friendly. Requests for more towels were taken care of quickly and even a late night need of fork for leftovers.
Breakfast was simple but plenty of variety. Fruits, yogurt, toast, bagels, tarts, banana and lemon bread, tarts, doughnuts, 3 kinds of cereal, oatmeal milk and soy milk. Orange and apple juice
Coffee, tea, hot water available 24/7 but imo taste wasn't great. I brought my own hot chocolate pack s and travel mug.
Parking was apparently $12 pee night but somehow I was charged over $45 for 3 nights so I'm not sure how that adds up, especially considering hj next door is $10 and others across the street are only $5.
The location was convenient and I would consider staying again for maybe 1 night (not as a vacation) if the price were to remain reasonable... Since staff was pleasant breakfast was pretty decent. This is a solid 2.5- 3 star 🌟 hotel so manage your expectations...
Read moreI couldn’t wait to tell all prospective guests how perfect this hotel is! Being budget minded, I looked for the lower priced option. Not knowing the lay of the land in Niagara Falls Ontario, I trusted reviews to help with whether the location was any good. IT WAS! Now if you are a high end casino loving type, you might want to stay where there are bars and a view of the falls. I am 72 and traveled with a 10 year old. Eating at Skylon gives you a Birds Eye view of the entire area. I’ll share pictures. We were a 0.8 mile easy walk to Skylon. We did NOT have a view of much except graciously when asked at the desk, we were upgraded (free!) to a room (a suite!) with a view of the ferris wheel. A view of the falls would have been a waste. We walked 14,000 steps and enjoyed every one… once in our room, we bedded down and only glanced at the ferris wheel. But it gives you a good sense of the area nonetheless.
Clifton street, the exact street this hotel is on, but with a name change, is, for younger people, the place to be. It is like a mini mini carnival with attractions, blazing neon lights, shops, and also at the west end, nice choices of cuisine. We golfed in a below ground neon painted black lighted 18 hole course with time enough to do each hole several times. We ate DQ. We looked at fun souvenirs. There were lots of young adults having fun making me think it might be a local hang out on weekends for clean fun. No bars. No casino signs. There was a tiny roller coaster, Hong Kong, Hulk etc. And we were 3 blocks west of any noise at all.f remember… the river runs north/south.
I picked it for location but also for the terrific heated pool. ( I detest cool pools) and parking on site.
You just can’t go wrong. I’ll include pictures from Skylon. The hotel is in the back of the closer hotel with a V on top. You’ll see for yourself the lay of the land. PS: desk staff ALL friendly and there was an ice machine outside my 6 th floor room. I had a Frig too although mine...
