We just returned from an overnight visit at the Darlington House Bed and Breakfast after our yearly trip to NotL.
There was ample parking, the interior is very dated (purposefully) and had a cozy feel to it. All of the rooms required a steep staircase climb, so accessibility is an issue for those who struggle to walk and/or climb stairs.
The room we stayed in had a large king bed, a little firmer than we expected, but comfortable none the less. The bathroom didn't have a bath but the shower was fine. The wallpaper was weird and the selection of books (see attached image) was eclectic.
The location is good and is about a 15-20 min walk from downtown and/or Pellar wineries.
There were two misses here that brought the rating down to three stars. First, the breakfast was mediocre. Eggs benny is a great idea, but the execution has to be on point, and it wasn't. Furthermore, one of the patrons couldn't eat eggs or bananas (allergies) and despite mentioning this in advance, she didn't receive much of an alternative (same brekkie only no eggs on it and a bit of guacamole on the side) as well as receiving banana walnut pancakes(!). Second, and this was the biggest one for us, the walls were paper thin and had no sound insulation. We could literally hear the quiet whispers of the other patrons and were woken up at 1am when a couple had a conversation.
For what it's worth, I'd go elsewhere. It isn't a bad place, but we have enjoyed many other B&Bs a lot more...
Read moreMagdalena and Jarek are the most wonderful hosts! My partner and I stayed only one night at the B&B, but the hospitality that they showered us with was more than we could have ever asked for. ||We had to check in very late but they never made it a problem. There was a combination lock on the front door that made it easy to enter and leave without disturbing any other guests. When we got there, tired and hungry, Jarek had on hand a full listing of the restaurants in the area and their menus so we could quickly choose one to head to for a late dinner.||The Oakdene room we stayed in was well designed, clean, with lovely antique furnishings for that homely, small town vibe. There was an area with two plush chairs, where we could sit with a cup of tea and have a nice view of the park next door. I appreciated the added touches they included, such as the disposable make up removal wipes in the amenities provided. Jarek went so far as to provide a common tea/coffee area for his guests to have a late night cap.||Breakfast was an amazing three course meal, prepared hot-on-the-spot for us, including a delicious mini omelette cup, salad, crepe with fruits, and more! Magdalena and Jarek were very accommodating with our meal preferences and were great to converse with while we dined.||Overall you could not ask for a better stay! I highly recommend staying at this B&B and many thanks to Magdelena and Jarek for such a wonderful experience. Hope to see...
