I'm always disappointed when I travel to Okanagan, BC. This is one of the most beautiful places that you can go to and yet all the facilities in this area besides from the vineyards are very bad. Each year I travel there I always try and remind myself before going that despite the fact I'm paying Hilton Hotel equivalent prices to stay walking distance from the water, that I have to look past the rundown facilities. True I guess I could pay a couple thousand dollars a night to rent a house and maybe that is what I should do next time....
Next is the people. I would say 50% of them are very kinda and sweet and happy to help out and show the area to you, the other 50% forget the fact that we (read: the tourists) might be the only reason they are able to collect EI for 50% of the year and work the other half. They honestly seem to forget the fact that they are in a service industry and I always feel like we are putting them out when we visit.
The Blacksea Motel has great staff, they are the 50% that try and help out any way that they can, and they really did try all the time, which was one of our reasons we picked this place.
The rooms are the best ones I have stayed at on the beach front (they even have FLAT TV's haha yes that is a rare thing) yet do remember they are not your typical standard you would find any other place in Canada. Our room had many spiders in it (bugged the girls more then me) and on our last night we found a huge Bed Bug in our room and decided to sleep on top of the sheets in our clothing. BUT this is going to be no different at any of the other hotels along this street, they are all sub par for the price we pay and none of them are better then eachother so honestly just get the cheapest one you can find on that street. In fact next year we might just try and stay someplace further inland and drive up to the beach each day to try our luck that way.
Staff is great, they have Wifi, best location, no pool, good resturants at the end of the motel. I will always go back, so I guess this is why they can charge whatever they want on long weekends. I say these are all 60$/night motels but you pay for...
Read moreA picture of modern Turkey’s founder, Kemal Atatürk, on the wall behind the reception, coupled with the motel’s name, clued me that the owners, Saba and Zerrin Sahin, are Turkish. |“So are my in-laws,” I told them. |That got us chatting. Turns out theirs is the most veteran of motels along the western end of the Lake Okanagan boardwalk at the northern end of Penticton, which they bought and have been running since 1980. |The bathroom lacked a fan, but there is a clerestory window at the back for ventilation. Otherwise, the suite was very comfortable and spacious (living room, bedroom & bathroom), with a kitchen including full-sized fridge, four-ring electric stove, microwave, kettle, toaster, basic supply of pots, pans, dishes and cutlery—everything one needs for basic self-sufficiency during one’s stay. Parking just outside the room, at ground floor, makes for very convenient transfer of one’s stuff from the car to the room and vice versa. The motel sits directly opposite the main entrance/ramp to the beach, so can’t be bettered location-wise. We don’t know when we’ll stay again at the northern end of Penticton, which is noticeably windier and cooler than the southern end, but if we do, the Black Sea Motel will be a preferred...
Read morePerfect location if you are a beach goer! Steps away from the cross walk that takes you directly onto the sand! As for the motel itself, it is your average motel. There is nothing fancy about it.
The room we had was decent, has a kitchenette, separate bedroom. Separate living room. And a semi-large bathroom. They have plates, utensils and cookware available to use. The parking lot was a bit tight and kinda sketchy once you get a bunch of cars in there.
The location though is perfect, beach side, close to amazing restaurants and ice cream shops. There is a large playground about a 5 minute walk down the road and the Loco landing amusement is about a 3 minute walk! How could it get any better.
For the price ($169+tax) I think it is a little steep for what you truly get. The service was okay, nothing spectacular. She took my cc info over the phone and told me it would be processed before I got there, which it never was and then when I got there she said I could pay anyway but then made me pay by credit card and then took the number down after the payment had gone through, so it was a little sketchy but I haven't noticed a problem with my card so I...
