Xalpen B&B is a charming building with rooms on multiple levels, and a breakfast room upstairs that doubles nicely as an evening gathering space with panoramic floor-to-ceiling windows looking over the water and the mountains, and with a nice outdoor patio off that upper room. My room was secure, the bed was comfortable, the shower hot, the wifi solid, the breakfast tasty, and there are two coffee sources - the usual Nescafe with the buffet, but excellent stuff brewed by Carmen Gloria at the front desk for a small fee. I was working in Punta Arenas and taking a weekend with a local friend to see a bit of Torres del Paine international bioreserve. As a stopping place, Xalpen's location worked well for a reasonable price. It was also interesting that the owner, Carmen Gloria, has an advanced degree in chemical engineering and carefully tracks the state of the Park with an expert eye. She has a good rolodex of smart friends, guides, drivers, and local restaurants, and her recommendations proved excellent. All in all, a much more rewarding B&B than I'd expected for the price, and I'll happily return when my travels...
Read moreA basic and clean place to stay for an affordable price. Juan was an incredibly welcoming and courteous host. The private room (double room?) with a shared bathroom was perfect for me as a solo traveler with a small backpack. It would probably be cramped to share with 2 people, or if you brought a lot of luggage, so keep that in mind when booking. Even though the bathroom was shared, it was always clean and in good condition. There is no shampoo or any toiletries provided, so make sure you bring some or make do with the hand soap lol. The balcony area upstairs was amazing and has a great view of the whole city. The location was also good and close to the bus station. Breakfast was a to-go style sandwich, which was great to take on my hikes. My only minor complaint was that the walls were very thin and I could hear the other guests, but they were not especially loud so it was fine. Overall, I liked it and would...
Read moreWe stayed here for one night. It is walking distance to the centre of town and bus station. Beautiful view from upstairs lounge area facing the water. The beds were so clean and comfortable, room very dark for a good sleep, shared bathroom. Entire building very clean. We had a kettle with coffee and tea in the room and a small kitchen and fridge to use upstairs. Our hosts were so friendly, accomodating, and we were given sandwiches for breakfast. It is a home with wood floors and thin walls so noise can travel a little but it did not bother us at all. We very much loved our stay! 5 stars!...
