The hotel was fine. Clean, nice, and modern. Hotel is within walking distance to most city center activities and landmarks. Make sure to do your research because there are some “tough” areas of town you might want to avoid. We walked everywhere without issue, but some tourists might want to beware. Hotel has security guard in day and locks doors with buzz in at night for extra security. The staff was present but not really warm or welcoming. We stayed 6 days and staff looked at us as strangers each time we entered the hotel. The security guards just stared at us upon entry. That was strange. The best staff was house cleaning team and bellman who helped us with our bags. The concierge was somewhat helpful but required a lot of follow up to confirm our needs and reservations were understood or met. My husband speaks fluent Spanish, so the lack of communication was strange. On New Year’s Eve, the same staff we’d seen for six days waited on us at the roof top dinner and FINALLY warmed up and were very pleasant that evening. Lastly, the hotel has a lot of nice seating areas and “cubby holes” to relax, read, have a drink. Those come in handy if you’re flight arrives early AM and you can’t checkin until 3PM. Our checkin was a bit challenging, staff seemed flustered and told us our room would be ready early (11:30AM), however, the room ended up being ready really late instead. 20 minutes after the 3PM checkin time and they seemed to have lost our checkin information when we returned to gain access to our room. Free breakfast buffet was very well stocked and a nice bright area to eat breakfast. Overall, our stay was not bad, but we found the staff wasn’t warm, welcoming, or too helpful. I’m not sure I’d select this hotel again on my next visit to Santiago. I would say this hotel might be better suited for business travelers, rather than vacation travelers who want a friendly, helpful, smiling staff and light atmosphere when they’re relaxing...
Read moreI LOVE the Magnolia Hotel! Hands down, one of the best hotels I've visited in my extensive travels in the past 35 years. The hotel is not only beautiful (it is in a renovated mansion that includes and incredible library with a wide variety of English and Spanish books!), but the location near so many important sites in Santiago (and a stone's throw from charming neighborhood of Lastarria) makes this the PERFECT place to stay in Santiago. This would be enough for a 5 star review, but what really makes the Magnolia stand out are the people who work there. This is a very happy staff who believe in their work and demonstrate true heartfelt hospitality. I arrived solo after a long day of travel, and immediately felt so welcome by the staff, especially Agustin, Ariel and a wonderful bellboy named Jason (who patiently and joyfully moved my suitcases twice to different room to assure I was happy!) Oh and as an added plus, the hotel offers a lovely one hour wine tasting of delicious Chilean wine on Friday nights with Gerard, a very knowledgeable sommelier. It was lovely. There is also wine available to guests free of charge in the library anytime, which is very unusual. Breakfast (included in your stay) is also included and wonderful! In short, just a perfect perfect stay. I truly hope I return with my family so they can experience the hospitality of the Magnolia Hotel as well! Kudos...
Read moreThis hotel thinks that it’s better than it really is! |Our room was spacious but had faulty air conditioning. After an unresolved issue and a bad nights sleep we were moved to a different room the following day and things were better. |The ‘ open bar ‘ in the Library is a joke. All fine if you want to help yourself to jars full of jelly sweets.|The wine on offer was very limited…. Sometimes there was red and sometimes there was white, ( very warm), and sometimes sparkling but usually no glasses there. Such a shame that a country that produces wine can’t be bothered to chill. Reception staff were very unhelpful. Any other drinks were open to interpretation. |The staff do not tidy up empty and discarded glasses were left there for a couple of hours. |The terrace bar was fine and the staff were helpful and pleasant.|Breakfast was ok if you did the cereal option. Hot dishes were cold and the baguettes seemed to be the ‘part baked’ variety that hadn’t been cooked. Somewhat disappointing as so far on our trip we have been blown away by the quality of the...
