Second night. Second awesome experience. When we arrived, there were no seats by the window. Our server Alexandra very nicely offered to call us up from our room in the hotel when one opened. 10 minutes later we were seated with two delicious cocteles - the Caribbean Sweet is amazing. We enjoyed the ceviche (again) and the shrimp empanadas. The plateada de res as an entree was, sin duda, one of my favorite dishes I’ve had. Seriously succulent, and the variety of fungi/mushrooms give it an exquisite flavor. Perfectly paired with the bottle of Marques de Casa Concha carmenere wine. Alexandra was awesome, efficient (but she gave us plenty of space), and came through with great recommendations. Our tres leches dessert was just average - we are used to a more moist, Mexican version - but still tasty. We are returning to Santiago in a week and can’t wait...

I mean, I made reservations for two, quite in advance, I even called 15 minutes earlier to make sure our table was ready, they said yes. Once we arrived there was no table and one of the waiters called me a liar "you're lying sir, we have no reservations under your name". When they finally did give us a table (thanks to a lovely customer), first they never cleaned the rather stained and dirty spots, second, they took 20 minutes to bring 2 glasses of tasteless (cheap) sparkling wine and the food was just disgusting (we started with the empanadas, which made me sick). Repetimos en español entrecortado y añadimos, carne, ella sonrió y nuevamente dijo no entiendo. Finalmente sacamos una foto de su menú y ella dijo oh, filete (pronunciando la T). ¡Qué juego tan infantil estaba jugando! Ella nunca nos trajo nuestra comida, alguien más lo hizo. Ella nunca vino a nuestra mesa para preguntar cómo estaban las cosas o para volver a llenar las bebidas, ¡alguien más lo hizo! Finalmente, cuando llegó el momento de pagar, le pregunté si podía hablar inglés y me dijo que sí. Entonces pedí cambiar la punta, ella dijo que sí, solo cuando se dio cuenta de que la estaba bajando, no quería cambiarla. ¡Incluso le preguntó a mi esposo si esto estaba bien! Me entregó la tarjeta de crédito y le dije, ahora cámbiala. Una persona arruinó toda nuestra experiencia de cena. ¿Y por qué? ¿Porque sintió cierto poder para criticar nuestra pronunciación española de filete? Sabemos cómo decir la palabra... pero hagamos que esa sea la razón para arruinar la cena de alguien. Tal vez en lugar de eso, concéntrate en tu trabajo.
We have eaten here before with great satisfaction. But tonight was the worst! When we asked Alexandria, our server, for the filet, her response was a coy, No entiendo. We repeated in broken Spanish and added, carne, she smirked and again said no entiendo. Finally we took out a pic of their menu and she said oh, filet (pronouncing the T). What a childish game she was playing! She never brought us our food, someone else did. She never came by our table to ask how things were or to refill drinks, someone else did! Finally, when it was time to pay, I asked her if she could speak English and she said yes! So then I asked to change the tip, she said yes, only when she realized I was lowering it, she didn’t want to change it. She even asked my husband if this was okay! He handed me the credit card and I said, now change it. One person ruined our whole dinner experience. And why? Because she felt some power to criticize our Spanish pronounciation of filet? We know how to say the word…but let’s make that the reason to ruin someone’s dinner. Maybe instead focus...
