Hotel Madeiro — Hotel in Medellín

We were very much excited to try this place on our first trip to Colombia and Medellin in particular. I'll start with the positive. The staff are very friendly and helpful. That's always good, and a necessity in the hospitality industry. The room we selected came with a jetted tub. We didn't use it but it seemed like a nice feature. The location is good for accessibility to local favorite hot spots. There are several well-reviewed eateries all within a two minute walk. That said, this is where the positive aspects ended for us. The rooms are a bit outdated. The linens could use an upgrade. The door malfunctioned when we arrived and we had to use a physical key, which is annoying. The location is nice for access to local spots, but the savvy traveler needs to keep something in mind. A cab ride in Medellin is ridiculously cheap relative to the USA. You can use Uber or cabify to get around for very cheap. For me, this made the appeal of this location kind of a moot point. You don't need to be in the heart of all the action when a $1.50 can ride can get you there in about 10 minutes. With all of that said, my biggest complaint about the location is very personal to me, but I'm sure it is still very relevant to many others. This location is just too close to all the action. For example, right across the street is a popular spot that comes to life particularly at night. That's great for those who want to party until well after dark but unfortunate for those who are trying to sleep. Also, you will hear every single noise, bus horn and even people shouting at all hours of the night. I know. I can already hear people criticizing my appraisal saying, "hey what do you expect when you stay in the heart of Poblado's night life?". My response to them would be, there are much better options overall just a ten minute ride north of here. We stayed one night in the quieter (and cleaner) north end of Poblado and it was day and night different. The pricing was also very similar which is what really struck me as odd. Hotel Madeiro is for you if you can sleep through noise and if you don't mind amenities falling short of a 3...

If you desperately need some where to stay I get it. But places like this should not be supported.

My experience with this hotel has been incredibly disappointing. I booked my room over a month in advance, yet upon arrival, I was informed that the room was no longer available. Although they adjusted my rate, I was placed in a lower-value room.

Things only worsened when my friend and I discovered mold in the room. We politely requested to cancel the remaining nights and receive a refund for the unused portion of our stay. However, the hotel refused, claiming it was against their policy because we had prepaid in full—a practice I find unreasonable, given that the stay wasn’t completed.

To support our case, we referenced their posted cancellation policy. Shockingly, they denied our request and then changed the policy within 15 minutes of our dispute. Thankfully, I had taken a screenshot of the original policy, but their refusal to honor it left us deeply frustrated.

I will start by saying the location is fantastic. The proximity to the night life is awesome. The staff is great as well. They are very friendly. However I had an awful experience staying here.

This hotel was a huge let down. The pictures do NOT depict what you are in store for. The room I was provided was filled with black mold and the paint was bubbling up on the walls. Random pieces were left lying around the room for various pieces of furniture.

To be honest, It appeared as though they gave me the room they were planning on working on fixing up. And instead of saying they were all booked, they tried to make a quick dollar at my expense.

When I asked for a refund they said no but you can check out. They tried to not give me my money back and double book the hotel. If I could, I would give this hotel negative stars.
