Ate here twice. The first night was during a storm and only the 6 tables inside were in use. Had the mussels and they were lovely. Decided to go back for our last night and ordered the same food again. The mussels arrived freezing cold and when we flagged down a waiter to say that he did take them back. Returned a few minutes later with either the same muscles microwaved or just more of the sauce added on top. They were hot but they were scaley with beard, the texture was off with many muscles having what looked like air bubbles on them which I had never seen before but made me nervous to eat. There was also an abundance of shell amongst the meat even when eating with a fork and broken shell throughout. I spat many out and had to run to the bathroom.
After asking politely for our table to be cleared so we could just pay and leave the manager came over. He was very confrontational and he told us it was not possible the food would make me be sick and I wouldn’t have been able to sit there if I had been sick. We hadn’t asked to speak to the manager and was incredibly rude. I left the restaurant in tears from being talked down to like this by a man much older than me and all he could say (to my boyfriend, not to me) was “sorry about that”.
Wasn’t going to leave a bad review as he did remove my mussels from the bill but really didn’t appreciate being told it must be my fault for not liking the muscles as “everyone is different” and it was impossible that I had been sick and also tried to imply I had never had mussels before despite me telling him we had been there the...
Read moreOn our last full day in Dubrovnik we discovered the pedestrian walk way from the Lapad Post office bus stop to Sunset Beach and strolled down in the glorious sunshine. We found this place in a fantastic location right by the water as it was only late morning we asked if they were just serving drinks and the waiter said just sit down and he'll be over shortly. We had a couple of refreshing drinks and decided because the location and service was so good we asked when they served lunch, our waiter said lunch service starts at noon so once we finished our drinks we said we'll go for a walk and be back for lunch. We arrived back and sat in the same seats as where we had our earlier drinks, we were brought a menu and the seafood dishes sounded lovely and so we ordered the cioppino a la casa and the mussels. What arrived was the best meal we ate during the whole week we spent in Dubrovnik and by and large we felt the food we had eaten was of a good standard. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this place and given our experience of it I'm surprised its not rated higher. Additionally because we had a reasonable walk back to the hotel we made use of the bathroom and both of us commented how clean the facilities were too. I've attached pictures of the food we ordered, they can't convey sadly the...
Read moreAfter eating the mussels at CASA, which wasn’t very appealing for the eye nor the tastebuds, we got back to our hotel room where my girlfriend stayed up all night with food poisoning. Since we had been eating and drinking almost the same thing up until our visit at CASA, where she took the mussels and I didn’t, we’re 100% convinced that the mussels were the source of the illness.
As anyone who’s had mussels in the life knows, you have to be very cautious when preparing the dish. Everyone except the owner of CASA apparently.
I went back to the restaurant the day after to explain everything and demand some form of compensation. To which he replied that every cookbook and chef all over the world is wrong about mussels and that you practically can’t be food poisoned by mussels. And he refused to acknowledge the fact that his mussels may have been bad this one time, and refused to do anything about it.
Clearly, restaurant CASA’s owner and chefs are incapable of handling seafood in general and mussels in particular and I wouldn’t recommend anyone to eat here, unless you want to stay up all night throwing up in the bathroom.
On top of all this, they also charged us for some appetisers that we didn’t order :)
Oh, and the risotto with prawns was unbelievably...
