The apartment was nice and clean, but the service was weird. I talked on the phone with a man who promised us that we can check-in earlier, between 10 am to 11 am. Three days before arriving I stared writing letters to the Oldhouse Apartment, but I got no answer. I also called them several times, but nobody answers. When they finally answered the call, then a woman said that we cant check-in earlier. I told her that someone from your organization promised me that we can check-in ealrlier, but the woman just replied "Tetchy clients like you will ruin my day" (we talked in Estonian). Its a quite horrible thing to say to your client who has already paid for the apartment.||||I asked the woman why they didnt have answer my calls or e-mail about exact checking-in time - she asked me that what I supposed her to answer when she dont know what to answer. Okey, I dont understand that, because letting me know that they dont know it yet would have been way better than ignoring me for days. She also said "By the way, we have very thick walls in Old Town, so your e-mails may not reach us". Its quite funny, because the thickness of walls cant affect the internet so much (there are also many restaurants and I dont believe that they dont get their e-mails when someone wants to book a table) and when I wrote them a letter about booking, then I got answer with couple of hours. ||||When I arrived to the apartment then the same woman told us that I need to pay 200 € in cash for deposit. I didnt have cash, because nobody told this to me and there was no information about it - I booked the apartment though their own website and I asked (though the phone) if there are any rules or practices which I should to know and they only told me that no parties are allowed. So, when you want to book the apartment, then please asked them to send you the contract for check it before arriving!||||Before cheking-in I needed to sigh a contract which said that there will be penalty (50 €) if we wont put our dishes into the dishwasher or there will be mess in the kitchen after leaving the apartment. But unfortunately the dishwasher didnt work... So we needed to wash the dishes by hand, but it seems a little bit weird to threaten people with penalty although you dont have a working dishwasher. I have booked a lot of apartments before, but I have never seen a contract with so many penalties. ||||I also needed to give them all information about my MasterCard (also the security code) and nobody told this to me earlier. I was already in apartment and I had nowhere else to go, so I had to choice about it, but I feel absolutely not safe about giving all by card information to somebody I havent met before. I needed to write this information down, so now they have all information and if they want then they can use my MasterCard. I dont feel ok about it. So, again, please asked them to sent the contract to you before cheking-in.||||But yes, the apartment itself was clean (exept for fake plants that were very dusty) and great. Location was...
Read moreThe best view in Tallinn w/ TWO balconies overlooking the Town Square, 2/2 (2nd floor w/ elevator [tiny, ancient & slow but works], full kitchen (dishwasher, large fridge & microwave too), washing machine, clean w/ everything you need for a perfect stay. Didn’t have to go out to buy anything although there is a RIMI Express market just around the corner. Book APT #1 early ‘cause it’s the ONLY apt w/ balconies). Although it is a 2/2, I traveled alone & loved it. Although it was overlooking the Town Square Tallinn goes to sleep early; there are no loud bars anywhere & the apt windows/doors are well-insulated.
I was there late May & had no need for a/c. Tallinn at night is always cool even if the day is warm. Not sure if apt even has a/c; didn’t need it (& I’m from Miami where EVERYTHING has a/c).
The host responded promptly (but never met her/him). Only issue was beeping smoke alarm that just needed new battery; resolved w/in 24 hrs). You’ll receive instructions w/ door code & key box combination the day before your arrival. WiFi is “Apartments2.” The pwd written on the door is illegible.
Check-in at 3pm. I used Hotel Veru (former “skyscraper” KGB bugged hotel w/ KGB Museum tour) to store luggage (5€ per piece but ask receptionist NICELY). It’s a 10 min walk to Kinga 1.
Taxis cannot reach apt front door because it’s on the Town Square. Ask taxi/Bolt! to drop you off at Tourist Information Office (Niguliste 2) as it’s the closet to the apt & taxis know where it is.
Before walking two short blocks to the apt door on the Town Square, you may even want to go in to get a map or ask any questions you may have; the ladies speak impeccable English & are helpful, patient & kind. They provided me with info on cultural events. I ended up buying tickets to the Estonia Opera & Concert Hall for two performances; highly recommended if you enjoy seeing the interior of beautiful city venues while enjoying music/dance performances; tickets are cheap (compared to U.S. prices).
The “Tallinn in a Nutshell Free Walking Tour” also meets at this location daily at 11 am & 2 pm. Tour guide Katia was exceptional if you can get her. Her voice carries well, her walking pace works for all ages & her story-telling make the 2+ hour walk entertaining while still being informative.
If I return to Tallinn, I will stay nowhere else. Hope my review helps you make your decision on where to stay for a few days in Tallinn. Because of the 3 pm check-in & 11 am check-out I’d recommend these apartments if staying 3+ days, otherwise, a hotel may be more practical because of possible early checkin, later checkout &...
Read moreWe booked 2 of their apartments for 4 days each in July.||||The pictures in the photos look good, but once you arrive it's clear the furniture is old and broken, and the cleanliness is disgusting - for example, there was mould all over the fridge.||||My mother sat on one of the dining room chairs, and it collapsed - it had a broken leg which had been wedged in place to hide the break. When we looked at the other dining room chairs, 3 of 6 of them were broken. There were other problems as well - for example non-working washing machine and broken plates.||||We informed the owner. The owner was aggressive and asked us if we were looking for money - we responded that we were not, but were informing her so future guests wouldn't face the injury my mum did. The owner said she would not be able to come that day, but could come 2 days later at 11am - and told us to be inside the apartment. This was inconvenient as we were in Tallinn for holiday and had wanted to be sightseeing, but we said ok in the spirit of being helpful.||||No-one came. No one contacted us. It was frustrating to have wasted several hours waiting.||||When we checked out, I didn't mention the issue - it didn't seem worthwhile. But the owner arrived during the check-out process, and asked me what I thought of the apartments. In order not to have any problem I said "so-so". The owner aggressively asked what I meant, so I mentioned the mould, the broken chairs etc that we'd previously informed her of on the phone.||||The owner raised her voice, became aggressive. She said that no-one came to view the issues because they had many things to do; and called me a liar and worse for criticising her apartments. She said that everyone else loved her apartments and anyone that didn't was a liar or an idiot. ||||The next 5 minutes consisted of (i) me standing there silently waiting for the check out process to complete (ii) the owner shouting and abusing me (iii) the checkout girl apologising and asking me not to take it personally.||||It was a...
