Hotel Stern am Rathaus — Hotel in Cologne

What an outstanding hotel from top to bottom!

First of all the location is absolutely outstanding. 5 minute walk from the train station and cathedral and a minute away from a number of outstanding restaurants in the square.

The family room was incredibly clean and spacious and perfect for a family of four. Having these kinds of facilities in the middle of the city is excellent and I know I'll be recommending to all friends who want to stay in Cologne. All the facilities you need including a mini fridge and coffee machine. There was also a mini bar available in the main hotel 24/7 which was extremely helpful

The staff were all extremely friendly and helpful. Nothing was too much and they really went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable. They offered tips for the local area and things to do with the children and they were always so welcoming. We loved every single one and having great staff really does make a difference.

Finally the breakfasts were just sublime. Great selection every morning with different specials like cherry pancakes and french toast. Staff prepare scrambled eggs and bacon to order and the kids absolutely loved it.

Absolutely Fabulous! Our walk from the train station to the hotel was very brief, and we were immediately greeted by the owners. They explained the breakfast service, offered us a choice of beverage, gave us each a map to the city, and then helped us with our luggage to our room. We reserved a junior suite and it was a total stunner! I love a hotel room with a bathtub and this one was the perfect size! Our room was quiet: once you close those windows you no longer hear the outside world. But if you want to hear those beautiful cathedral bells, you only need open the windows. We were centrally located to the riverside, the cathedral, the main shopping square, and plenty of museums to choose from. We don’t eat eggs or meat and for some reason the owners were apologetic for their breakfast service offerings which were an embarrassment of riches! Breakfast in other European hotels was always a sad table of paltry options and a shrug, but not here. We have been spoiled for the remainder of our time in Europe. Everyone at the hotel is perfectly lovely. I would love to return to Cologne and stay here...

We recently spent three nights at Stern am Rathaus, and it truly exceeded our expectations. The location cannot be beat—right beside the city square, yet remarkably quiet and peaceful. We loved being just steps away from excellent restaurants, shops, and the main sights.|What made our stay especially memorable was the staff. Francisco greeted us warmly on arrival and gave us all the information we needed to feel settled and at home right away. Each morning, Kai went above and beyond at breakfast to ensure we were well looked after. The spread was fantastic—fresh, healthy options, delicious warm croissants, and made-to-order omelettes that quickly became a highlight.
