XII Apostel Köln — Restaurant in Cologne

TLDR: Service good, ambiente good, Tiramisu good, Pasta needs work, menu nearly unreadable. Details: After straining our eyes trying to read the silly newspaper based menu by candlelight, and trying to find the lasagna (What they don't offer lasagna??), or wines by the glass, we negotiated our order with the attentive waiter. The service was attentive and good. Our pasta orders arrived in black as night large UFO shaped deep dishes. I ordered the black pasta (Fettucine Salmone) and it was a challenge to eat black pasta in a black bowl by candlelight. The DISAPPOINTMENT was the Vollkorn Fusilli Pesto dish, which arrived with just a few lonely cherry tomatoes as company, in other words, a heaping mound of fusilli. NOT IMPRESSIVE. Didn't find any evidence of interesting ravioli offerings or other Italian classics. Finished off with a pretty decent Tiramisu - so the desert chef is to be congratulated, at least. The pasta chef - well let's say we won't be eating there again for another many years. Catastrophic : It was our first dinner in Köln, we wanted to live a nice food experience but unfortunately we were disappointed. The pasta was so dry and the sauce didn't have any flavors. The whole dish didn't taste good at all. Even a beginner at cooking would have prepared a tasty dish. The place is very nice and the service was so good, but unfortunately the main element was missing. Our experience was a waste of money and time. We didn't enjoy our meal at all. After spending the whole day being amazed by the beauty of the city, we ended up unsatisfied. I hope that the responsible person will read my comment and do some efforts to improve this business. Barely greeted as we entered. Nobody came to us to help us with the menu. Some menus missed pages! When we asked for help saying we didn’t speak good German the lady just abruptly told us that it was written in English on the menu and left without being helpful. She then disappeared. And did not come back to us when we wanted to order some drinks. When she walked passed, and we tried to get her attention she told us « one minute » without even looking at us. Five minutes later we just decided to leave as we were obviously bothering the staff being amongst the 7 customers in the place. Can’t comment on the food obviously.
