Terrible experience with dishonest manager!... I booked a room at the Hotel Drei Löwen for the last weekend of the Oktoberfest. After a long trip to Munich, I arrived at the hotel to discover they lost my reservation and were completely booked out. The manager tried to blame me and claimed I didn't even make a reservation. When I showed her my booking confirmation in my email, she first rudely asked me why I didn't have it printed out (uh, welcome to the digital age lady) and then told me that I should have booked it through them directly (uh, I never heard of their hotel until I saw it on Priceline). She then called another hotel and told me she needed to know right whether I wanted to the room at the other hotel without giving me any information about that hotel except for the price (note: I had already prepaid to stay at her hotel). When I said not until I have more information, she hung up on the hotel and then rudely told me that I should trust her before storming out of the lobby like a child. The receptionist let me use one of the phones to call Priceline to try to get things worked out. When the customer service representative at Priceline requested to speak with the manager, she came back and listened to him for about 20 seconds then claimed to "not understand his English" before handing me the phone back and walking away again. A couple of minutes later the Priceline representative was starting the process to find me a new hotel when the manager walks up to me and tells me that I need to use my cell phone and I can't use one of their lines. I told her my cell phone didn't work in Germany and I need to have a place to stay since it was already evening at the time. The manager stormed away, but came back a few minutes later and said if I don't get off the phone she would hang it up for me. I was forced to get off the phone and then I simply looked at her and said well, what do I do now? In an aggressive tone, she again mentioned the first hotel she suggested "if it is still possible". I had friends staying at a nearby hotel so I had asked if it was close by and she said it was around the corner. I begrudgingly had to accepted. She called the hotel back and when she was speaking to them at the end, I overheard her say in German, "oh wait, which location is this?". I asked her again how far the hotel is away and she said really close. When I asked for directions, she said it is complicated and to take a taxi (yes, I know a red flag). I got in a taxi and asked the guy how far away it was. The driver told me 15-20 minutes away. The manager had apparently called the wrong location of the other hotel and rather than admitting that they had made a second mistake, she decided to lie to my face and send me to a hotel 15-20 minutes by taxi away from where all of my friends were staying. After discovering the Hotel Drei Löwen's dishonesty, I told the driver to pull over at the next hotel we saw. I then went that hotel's lobby and explained my situation. That hotel was also fully booked, but they were kind enough to let me use their phone to call Priceline and get a new hotel even though I wasn't even staying there. I am an extremely frequent traveler and I have never experienced such an utter lack of professionalism as I did at the Hotel Drei Löwen.

Read moreI would like to feedback on my unpleasant experience.1. I am disappointed to only found out that the main road that leads to the hotel was blocked by on going construction work. The hotel could have informed guests and give guided directions beforehand so that we are not at a lost how to get to your hotel from the GPS. I was forced to make a big detour with my 25kg luggage and it was not an easy task. Given also that I arrived late at night and the surrounding doesn’t make me feel safe with such big luggage and being alone in a foreign city.2. On the 2 nights I am here, loud noises can be heard. On the 15/3 night, it was loud chatting and drinking which lasted till 12 midnight. On 16/3, it was shouting from a man which I could hear full of expletives and lasted from 11pm to the wee hours of almost 3am. Both nights I was jolted out from my sleep as it was loud and disturbing. I wanted to call the hotel only to realised my room doesn’t have a telephone and I was in my pyjamas and will be inconvenient for me to go down to the reception.3. On 16/3 when I returned back to the hotel, my key card wasn’t working. I had to go to the reception 4 times to get it sorted out. The reception should have followed me up and get it fixed for me instead of making me walk up and down with my heavy shopping bags which I can’t leave it outside my door. I was even told my name was not registered with the system and therefore might be the reason. I asked how then was I able to checked in the previous night and the reception guy said he is puzzled too. It was finally resolved when the other reception got the master key to open it for me. He initially tried on my key card and it can’t be open too.4. I asked for an additional pillow on 16/3 in the morning and the reception told me to informed the housekeeper when I see them. As one of the housekeeper was right outside my unit, I informed her, initially she doesn’t understand what I wanted, i showed her the pillow and she said she will get it for me. Unfortunately when I returned back, no pillows were given and my room was not cleaned.5. Today - 17/3, I returned back to my room and saw that my bed was fixed, but not cleaned. The basin still have hair, the floor mat which is wet was folded and left by the window. Both my towels were not changed even though I already used it for 2 days. I do not mind not changing towels everyday to save the earth, but at least must change every other day given that most people showered twice a day. Floor mat which is step on, must be changed for hygiene purposes. This hotel was highly recommended by my friend who stayed here last year. When I shared with him my experience he was shocked. I don’t feel safe staying here and every night I rushed to come back before 8pm. I was kept awake the whole of yesterday night from the shouting and felt so helpless not being able to do...
Read more** MISLEADING hotel. My girlfriend and I are traveling Germany and Munich is our longest stay. We were very excited about our time in Munich and about the beautiful pictures we saw online of this hotel. DO NOT BELIEVE THE PICTURES, as they do not depict the hotel’s physical appearance and/or atmosphere. The hotel’s front picture is entirely misleading as it depicts a beautiful building when in actuality it is old and dirty. Surrounding the hotel are various bars and restaurants not traditional to German culture. If you are looking to get a true German experience, this hotel may not be for your liking. While the hotel is close to Munich’s central area, (17 minutes by car) its location is FAR from attractive. Dirty, loud, and unwelcoming. Unfortunately, my girlfriend was turned off by the area almost immediately after being harassed by men yelling crude things at her directly outside of our hotel.
Upon arrival, we arrived with 4 large suitcases but there was no bellhop (this is apparently a 4 star hotel) Our room was a Deluxe Double. It was on the smaller side for a deluxe room but clean and nice nonetheless. Unfortunately, our view was of a concrete wall and our AC did not work.
Because we only stayed one night, I cannot comment on other ammenities provided by the hotel.
While we were not able to receive a refund for any of our 4 night stay, we did however appreciate the customer service from the front desk personnel who explained things thouroughly. He also apologized on behalf of the Hotel for our horrible experience, to which he voiced his complete understanding!
We urge anyone traveling to Munich (specifically couples) to check out hotels closer to Marienplatz. The difference is like night & day! This area will provide a much better experience...
