While this boutique hotel is clean and affordable, the location has good and bad aspects. I first have to give a shout out to the gentleman behind the desk on the day of our arrival, April 27(we never could see his nametag). We didn't anticipate such a quick recovery through Customs, etc. and arrived at the hotel before the Housekeeping staff. He was very sympathetic and we must have looked haggard with him feeling bad for us after our long journey from Florida via Philadelphia. Originally he said the room could be ready by 2PM (yikes, we were exhausted and no way ready to start exploring) then changed it to around 9:30. Wunderbar! We found the Staachus Passagen, window shopped then sat by Starbuck's until the room was ready. Thank you again, you saved our day and made a great first impression. As to rest of the hotel, we loved it and even though the area was not the best, we never felt unsafe. The pros of the area was the proximity to The Hauptbahnhof and the cons were exactly the same. The area does need a cleanup as does most of Munich. We did have a few minute walk to Karlstor, so next visit we would consider a more central hotel (tough decision and unsure if the $ would be worth it). Don't get me wrong, the hotel was spotlessly clean and comfortable with an amazing staff (who greeted us all the time) with an absolutely astonishing breakfast. There were so many choices and so plentiful, we often delayed any lunch, skipped it or just had a snack. We took two day trips and the proximity to the train station was helpful as most leave from that area. We did not have to rush. The hotel had a filtered water station setup with glasses and that was convenient and we did not have to purchase much bottled water. The bathrooms had towel warmers which was a nice touch. The room itself was carefully thought out (small by USA standards) with more than sufficient storage. The TV worked well even though there was only CNN International, CNBC and Bloomberg TV for English speakers; but we spent little time watching TV which was basically white noise to fall asleep. The shower was hot with good pressure even for a "Rain" model. The glass doors was different and in keeping with the modern minimalist style of the hotel. The Breakfast Room was neatly appointed and quite appealing. The pre-booking rate was rather good compared to other hotels and paying the extra for breakfast was a no-brainer considering the lack of options if you wanted to venture out early. Getting breakfast included was one of the best decisions we made. We also received chits for two free drinks from the bar. Overall, we made an excellent choice but wonder if there were better (?)...
Read moreI will get to mystical. First, I wanted a nice hotel, good value, near the Hauptbahnhofs. I read this is on a somewhat sketchy street. Yeah, it is a little sketch, but not threatening. The breakfast is good, plentiful, varied, not a super fine dining atmosphere, but quietly busy, tasteful decor, high ceiling rectangular room with one wall of window into a sunny parking courtyard.||||By American standards, room 506 was small but clean and functional. The bathroom was nice. The room feels fairly new, but maybe it is the architecturally functional finishes. No carpet to stain, just modern tile floors throughout, dark wood closet and desk, earth tone curtains and padded chair.||||Okay, mystical? For the past four days, I've heard this sound. Did Prince stay here in 1984 when he wrote When Doves Cry? I didn't think much about the sound. In my mind, it could be a mechanical system. Now that I think about it, the water is instantly hot. I'm in the last room on the floor, and the way to achieve that is to have a device that bleeds the cooling hot water into the cold water line. It sounds like pigeons cooing very slowly. Or a gentle sung cry like an E note. It quickly gets to the note, holds it several seconds, then slowly moans away down to C. My last night here, and it is probably the chocolate I ate, but I'm awake listening to it. It's in a major key, so it's not as creepy as it could be. When I decided to record it, it went away for a couple of minutes, but I was able to capture it with my phone voice recorder. I swear to god that walking around the city the first day, I heard maybe some heavy drills in concrete behind a fence, making the same notes and cadence while the drills spun up quickly and slowly spun down. My last night awake and listening and knowing I am next to the central train station, Dachau is not far, being a boomer well versed in WWII history but coming from the States where fascism is now sugar-coated and "great", I see things that remind me of that period all around. And the sound is a moan, not sad, not a warning, just please let it out. Go ahead and cry if you need to. We humans keep doing this to ourselves, but we also live and love and create brilliant beauty out of or after horror. I'll just rest comfortably under the down comforters and be cooed back to sleep for a...
Read moreWe are staying here for two more nights and I wasn’t even going to write a bad review but I feel I need to leave a review now after my experience with the new receptionist this morning. Yesterday, I checked into one room (room 204). When I went to the restroom to use it later in the day I noticed brown splashes, wiped but still there on the wall that is next to the toilet. We took pictures, showed it to the receptionist Raju and he gave me a new room card to check out(room 104). Similar but less marks on the lower section of the wall but this time there is what seems like a relatively fresh poop stain on top of the toilet paper. We are grossed out at this moment but check one more room (116). This one is good. So we move our staff. Raju apologized many times even though it wasn’t his fault. I found out the manager would be in this morning so I decided to let him/her know since the hotel is well rated and maybe he needs to retrain the cleaning staff.
The next morning we go down to get coffee and stop at the reception to ask about speaking to the manager to let him know the issues. An older guy at the desk is there and doesn’t greet me but whatever. I ask him if he is the manager. He responds no but “you can talk to me”. I let him know the issue has been resolved but that I would rather talk to the manager when he is available. He starts acting annoyed and frustrated that I’m not understanding the manager isn’t available today and tells me that I should talk to him. I thank him and say I’d rather wait and talk to the manager. The guy gets visibly annoyed rubbing his face, looking away in annoyance and asking me to talk to him instead. After 5-6 times of repeating my self saying that I’ll wait for the manager I had to leave. I wasn’t going to leave this bad review but maybe people should know the downsides as we picked this hotel due to very high Agoda and Google maps reviews and it doesn’t live up to those ratings.
Ps: the last...
