I'll start with the positive: The staff was extremely helpful, especially Mina who worked the afternoon. The breakfast was outstanding and had very good hours from 07:00 to 11:00. The room was clean. Bathroom has a full-length mirror. There is an electric blind on the window that you can raise and lower from the bed -- a nice touch. The shower is roomy for anyone -- see below. The doors are heavy metal and seem to be better soundproofing than the usual hotel door. The hotel front desk has a 10% off coupon for the "Alexander the Great" restaurant. I would recommend it. We really enjoy it and especially the grilled Feta cheese.||Negative: Sadly, lots of negative to write. I wish I could have given this hotel a better review. First, the neighborhood is not the kind of place you want to walk around. The block where the hotel is, is fine. They have a security guard at the door. Just don't wander to any side streets. The hotel has no parking but it has a relationship with a pay-to-park lot a short black away --not far. Prepare to pay 11 Euros a day if you drive. Also, be prepared to give the keys of your car to the attendant. The hotel says that they have transportation to the airport and back. Note that it happens only twice a day. So if you want a shuttle, make sure you fit your arrival to the time their shuttle runs. ||The bathroom is part of the room itself, which gives no privacy. When you walk out of the shower, you're in the bedroom. There is a door to the shower and a separate door to the toilet. The mirror over the sink has no lighting, so you have to use the overhead lighting which makes it hard to shave or put on makeup because of the shadows. The sink and mirror are located roughly in the middle of the bedroom. The bathroom area is a half step above the rest of the room, which means you often stub your toe in the night and often "fall" a half step when you're distracted. The TV is a nice size, but there are few channels if you don't speak Greek. The TV faced the bed in our room, but you can tell it was not made for that. There are two reading lamps which is nice, but they're at the head and foot of the person next to the wall. The double bed is made up of two single beds with a cover that unites both beds. You can feel the separation if you're a married couple. There are no night stands next to the bed. There is kind of a desk with only one chair. It's long but not deep. Just enough for your laptop. There is no closet but they do have a small area in the bedroom where you can hang a few things. There is no microwave which was a bigee for us.||Neutral:|The hotel has two banks of elevators, depending on which side your room is on. Our elevators where next to the dining area which is fine, but there are a few steps to get to the elevator. Mina even helped us get up luggage up the stairs. The lights are controlled at the door, the bed, and on a tablet. Modern to be sure, but you need to be at one of those two locations or carry the tablet around if you want to turn the lights on or off. ||For us, this was part of a package deal with the airlines, so this is the only place we could write a review. Wish it was a...
Read moreAfter travelling to more than 40 countries on holidays, would like to give a fair review about this hotel.
Starting with the positive side, this hotel is located in the heart of the city and walkable distance to some great restaurants and main attractions of Athens, it gets a 10 out of 10 for location.
Rooms: The hotel did not live up to my expectations, and the most disappointing part of the hotel room was the fact that I went in for a shower and the door handle detached and I could not open the door and neither could my wife who was on the opposite side of the door as it locks magnetically and can only open when the latch is pushed down, but we could not do that as the handle was broken and was stuck in there for a good 10 minutes, till my wife finally able to push the handle in from the outside which had fallen off and got the door open. If anyone was staying by themselves, they would have had to break down the bathroom door to get out.
The table lamp was broken and had to inform the reception to get it fixed as it was the only lamp on one side of the room that provided light.
Service: While most of the staff were friendly and helpful, there was one staff at the reception who not professional and not wanting to help. Had asked him if I needed to go to the gym, did I need to take the elevator or the stairs as there were no signs, with a smirk in a rude manner, he told me that I should take the stairs and not take the elevator if am going to the gym. Very disappointing! Also had asked him about the taxi service as the taxi that he called for me, had shown €7 on the meter and the taxi driver charged me €15; asked him if this is a normal practice, and he told me that if I had travelled a lot, I should know that the taxis are very cheap in Greece and I should not complain, although I was not complaining and only asking him if this was right. I personally felt that this guy was being racist towards me. It’s this one person who brings down the name of the hotel.
I would recommend this hotel to anyone who wants a great location, but do not expect the hospitality that one would seen in other hotels, especially if one has travelled a lot and know...
Read moreThe neighborhood: not nice! Stay near Plaka if you can afford it!
The room: We stayed in a room without a view and it was definitely not as nice as the ones with the view to the street, not because the street is a nice view, but because the room gets more natural lighting.
Our room never got cool enough although the temperature was marked at 18 degrees Celsius, it felt much warmer but not too bad to the point worth me complaining.
I was disappointed that an eco certified hotel had plastic bags in the room’s trash, there was no recycling to be seen, and most frustratingly, the hotel cleaning staff switched our towels every day despite me asking the hotel after the first day to not switch the towels. I was also disappointed by all the paper cups for example in the rooms and the lobby. These should easily be substituted for reusables.
Overall vibe: the front desk staff is “chill” all nice and accommodating with most of my requests (besides the no towel change request, I asked for the gym filtered water to be filled and more than 24hrs later it still hadn’t happened).
The aesthetics of the lobby does not match at all the aesthetics of the hotel rooms (the latter of which is nicer). The tablets in the room I felt were unnecessary and actually more of a pain than helpful because it often had glitches.
I loved how the bar was open during the afternoons, the freddo espresso...
