Arrived at hotel lido at about 1am and were immediately warned by our taxi driver to be extremely cautious at all times in this area as it is not nice and people can be extremely dangerous and unpredictable. We walked in to check in and were met by one of the rudest men I've met in my life. He barely spoke to us, more spoke in grunts and barely acknowledged our existence. Didn't give us any information on check out or rules ect. The noise outside was as if the hotel was in the middle of a night club with people shouting and music blaring. We got into the room and it was for lack of a better description a dodgy, sweat box. We did not get a double bed, just the two singles which was okay as we seen that it was part of our confirmation that they would try give us a double if possible. My partners bed after she lifted the sheets to get in seen a massive burn hole through the sheet onto the mattress which was not a pleasant sight to see. The next morning we got up to head down to the acropolis and as we were walking to the door when another receptionist, this time a woman, demanded our keys saying angrily and rudely that we cannot leave the hotel with the keys, obviously me confused at the situation, never having to leave keys before when staying in a hotel anywhere in Europe and the rest of the world, I been questioned it. She just continued angrily saying give me the keys now holding out her hand as if to summon the keys and pointing at a sign, saying leave keys at reception, which to any other person would mean for check-out, especially when you were not given any information the night before checking in that that was a rule. Also when we came back to the room the cleaner who had just "cleaned" our room was just standing outside our door smoking a cigarette, which for two non smokers was just disgusting and dirty. The shower was in nice terms a dog bath which we were both disgusted by and didn't use for fear of our own health and safety. It was pretty much a tap on the wall with no divider or curtain that if used would most definitely flood the entire room. The toilet seat was cracked there was no soaps or amenities provided in the bathroom and bugs crawling around the bathroom floor.Overall this place is a dump, horrible staff, horrible area, horrible hotel. Stay away and do more research than we did and you will enjoy your stay in Athens a lot more than us. There is a lot of false reviews out there but I promise when I say that, this is a horrible place and a place to avoid especially for female travellers even if you are with...
Read moreWe took this hotel for one night while waiting for our early flight the next day. I am very thankful we did not book here for longer as almost all is substandard. Think “dodgy motel from American movies” looking. It is cheap on the wallet however. Just to be aware this is a classic example of you get what you pay for type of experience. My advice is if you are want to go to Athens cheap, book the hostel with the bird logo just up the road from here, where we stayed before as it’s much more modern and generally just a little more money (although still in the “hood”/ slum style area).
The room door was partially broken with no door handle from the inside so the key needed to be used to pull it open, risking key breakage. The thick bed sheet over the thin white one had other peoples hair all over the inside as it’s that type of fluffy fabric. There was what looked like bodily fluids on the walls beside the beds and a faint odour of rotting meat and unclean drains in the room and bathroom. There was also no shower curtain. Some light switches did not work and the night lamp was barely visible so it’s either full ceiling lights or plunge into almost darkness, no in between. It seemed like the room had nothing in it changed in 20+ years. We just needed it for a sleep so we did not raise concerns but would have if our stay was going to be more than one night. The air con however was new and worked great.
Other reviews have mentioned the area, there was some one violently banging metal things and doors most of the night therefore sleep was poor. While the hotel cannot help the area it is in, perhaps security should be placed outside to stop street cretins making noise .
The receptionist however was helpful and put in an order for a taxi for the airport which arrived before time and was like something celebs travel in - it was nice to end our stay there leaving in luxury! If we had the choice to sleep in the taxi instead of here for the night, we would...
Read moreI booked a week at Hotel Lido but it was so bad I checked out a day early. ||||The location is central but the area is dreadful - the balcony overlooked homeless injecting drugs openly in the street , trash bins and some kind of sweatshop in the building opposite, oh and the Indian restaurant plays Bhangra music til 2am. || ||The room - dirty. When I saw the Cockroaches I took photos. The receptionist blamed me for eating in the room. I told her I didn’t eat in the room. She then blamed me for leaving the balcony door open. She said the rooms are ‘cleaned’ everyday , NO , all the chambermaid does is leave towels and makes the bed. The same long black hairs and bits on the floor , the blood where I killed the cockroach etc etc were there all my stay. ||However other reviews said about ‘insects’ so evidently cockroaches are a problem. ||She definitely needs some customer service training- shouting at the guests checking in - she is in the wrong job. ||||Btw… On the website they have faked a roof terrace. THERE IS NO ROOF TERRACE! |||| If this sounds like the hotel for you then great ! You’ll have a bargain stay in Athens ! |||| I have stayed in hostels that are cleaner (without cockroaches) … I wish I had spent a few more €’s , listened to the other reviews and stayed elsewhere. ||||Ecomony should never mean dirty. For my last night in Athens I booked into a lovely hotel without the ‘insects’ because I wanted to get this awful place out of my head and end my visit...
