Great hotel, made by the staff. There was one blunt woman on reception when we arrived, but all the others were wonderful.
There was a nice chap there most of the time and he couldn’t do enough for us. The cleaners, restaurant staff, and especially the ladies working at (a terrific) breakfast every morning made such a difference.
Can’t believe the reviews moaning constantly. We stayed several nights, so let me address a few.
The lift was fine. Wasn’t particularly slow. The pool was great and it has to close at some stage during the day to be cleaned. You could swim in it and look across to the Parthenon. Cool! The food was good, including that we purchased in the top floor restaurant. Yes, the rooms are a little dated, but they are clean and spacious and importantly the shower and bed were decent.
What more could you ask…
Finally, Athens is a working city, populated by several million people in the urban area. It will have ‘rough’ areas. But the hotel isn’t in one, as some reviews say. It’s just off a main shopping thoroughfare. We walked back to it, late, every night. There are homeless people, but they didn’t even talk to us, let alone threaten us.
Personally, I felt safer late at night than I do walking through my home town in England. Also, while we were there, we saw wonderful people helping them with food and especially water.
This part of the city has almost a grid pattern and there are plenty of alternative routes to walk to and from the hotel on. We walked past them, as I say, many times.
If you want a solid hotel, with great staff, smashing breakfast, rooftop views, in the centre of a vibrant, colourful, friendly city, then I think you could do a lot worse. We liked...

From the moment we walked in, we knew this stay would be special – but Novus City Hotel exceeded every expectation. We were welcomed like old friends, not just guests, and that warmth continued throughout our entire visit. The manager is one of the most genuine and kind people we’ve ever met, and you can feel their influence in the incredible team they’ve built. Every single staff member – from the bellboy to housekeeping to the restaurant waiters – radiated kindness and professionalism. It’s rare to see such a consistently amazing team, and they truly made us feel at home.
Our room was spotless, comfortable, and offered a breathtaking view of the Acropolis – waking up to that iconic sight was pure magic. The rooftop area is a slice of paradise in the city: a refreshing pool to cool off in after exploring Athens, and a restaurant that deserves its own Michelin star. We ate at many places in Athens and even on Aegina, but the best meal of our entire trip was right here. The Osso Buco with truffle pasta was simply world-class, and the Belgian waffle dessert left us speechless – the best dessert we have ever had, hands down.
We travel 7–8 times a year, and we can honestly say this is one of the best hotel experiences of our lives. Exceptional food, unbeatable views, and a staff that treats you like family – Novus City Hotel isn’t just a place to stay, it’s a reason to visit Athens. Book it. You will not be...
Read moreWe stayed as a family for a night either side of a cruise. ||The hotel is in a very run down area of the city. Turn right out of the hotel and you are greeted with a couple of dozen homeless drug addicts. It would have been helpful if the hotel told us not to turn right. It made the area feel very unsafe. ||The first stay, the female receptionist was rude. We had just come off an overnight flight and were exhausted but she was only interested in complaining about our early arrival. This was in contrast to the gentleman receptionist on our second visit who couldn’t have been more helpful. Like the staff on the 8th floor terrace, they are what the extra star is for. ||The rooms are tired and dated and in some cases falling apart. They are worn out and not of 4 star standard. They are clean enough and the showers are fantastic. ||Breakfast has plenty of choice but the cooked buffet was always cold. ||Upstairs on the 8th floor, the food was excellent and the feta and beetroot salad was memorable. ||In conclusion, I would not choose to stay here again, this was a choice made by our travel agent. There were a couple of glimmers of hope with some of the staff and upstairs food, however what this most definitely is not, is a 4 star hotel. I would say...
