Actually like the location, it's not too far from the square but the views could be better, we were in city view rooms on a low floor. At arrival the lady at the counter mentioned she would try to switch us from the accessible rooms as for some reason that's only what we were able to book online. At check-in the gentleman refused to have this conversation. Not sure why he couldn't just address whether or not he can switch the room as we were told there is likely to be availability since we booked suites. I would have preferred a smaller room because the views were pretty bad on the 2nd floor, there was so much street noise and the bathrooms had not been properly wiped down.
You'll be able to tell from the photos that they are also generally not well maintained, a shame and a big turnoff during our stay. The counter had dried sticky residue and drip marks, and the sink had some strands of hair. The garbage can, glass partition next to the toilet, the accessibility bars, and the flushing buttons were quite dirty and clearly not cleaned between guests. There was a used old bottle of cream with the vanity Wyndham brand amenities that was clearly a different brand from ghe previous person who used the room. The bottle was sticky and had hair stuck to it. Hotel staff had lined it up among the Wyndham brand amenities, goes to show they are arranging for show and not really cleaning. Frankly, a disgusting stay. These photos were taken just as we walked in so there should not have been hand/dirt smudges on any surfaces, if only to reduce the spread of bacteria and viruses.
We came with several bags and were not offered a trolly, let alone any help to bring them to our rooms. Two of the three drink dispensers in the lobby were empty, we came in from the heat to one dispenser that had room temperature water. Surprised this was not checked or refreshed prior to check-in hour when guests would normally be expected to stream in.
Previous responses to negative reviews indicate taking the feedback away for improvement, but if this were true I wouldn't have regretted the experience and money spent on this stay. We spent one last night in Athens befode flying back out, unfortunately out last night in Greece was overshadowed by an unclean and unkept bathroom.
We had 2 rooms in our reservation group and each room should have gotten a bottle of wine. Neither of us received it even after telling the staff twice, once over the phone and once in person to reception. They said they'd send it up both times but nothing was ever sent up to either room.
Rooftop pool is more like a top floor pool, high walls so no view, except through the restaurant on the other side. Pool is very small for the size of the hotel and only had 12 lounge chairs since it was such a small place. In the hour we were there least a dozen other people came, saw how packed it was and left. Many were fully dressed just lying down because it was windy and the pool was so cold and no one could swim. Others were cuddling 2-3 to a chair until they got fed up and left.
Normally really enjoy Wyndham hotels but this Athens stay was a bust. Previous hotel stays in Athens were premiere in smaller chains, had better views and better maintenance. Wonder if Wyndham will reach out for a...
Read moreThough this is a lovely hotel inside lobby etc - it is missing the attention to details piece that would make it a five star hotel..
Location - yes it's easy to get to some of the main attractions but if you are on your own, walking around late at night, have young kids and don't stay on the main roads it is not safe. You will come across junkies - shooting heroine and not just a couple a lot of them.. There are seedy places with open door policies up and down the the inside streets.
Breakfast buffet- is fine. It's not lavish, doesn't have amazing produce or many hot options for vegans and vegetarians. Unless you want beans and potatoes everyday. They don't cover the bread rolls, cakes, muffins etc and there are a lot of flies being drawn to the food. The juices are carton drinks not fresh. There is no option to request to have something made fresh which most 5 stars would offer. You aren't shown to a free table and have to walk around a secure one yourself. The staff are always friendly though and views are amazing. We found that it was better to go at 9ish when it was a less busy.
Room- decent size, cleanliness could be better. There was dust on the headboard, the counter top around the sink didn't get cleaned properly. The drain cover in the shower was broken, the rainfall shower head would randomly start leaking - like it had been turned on. The toilet roll was not replenished, you only get two free coffee pods after that you have to pay, and you only get a complimentary bottle of water on the first night. We were given one tea cup - and tea bags were not replaced. The fridge was in the wardrobe. The air con didn't work..Gowns and slippers are not 5-star standards. It's loud - if your room is facing the main road it's really loud and if you open the window it's impossible to sleep because of the noise. Two nights before we left the plug sockets near the TV stopped working, the phone stopped working completely, and we could smell burning. This is the only time I went downstairs to complain as we needed some toilet roll... toilet roll was provided and the phone was replaced. No one came to investigate the smell ( we gave up after waiting for ages) and no one followed up the next day either. The person I complained to even saw us on the last day didn't even acknowledge us.
Though not a bad hotel it is not a five-star hotel - please don't expect five-star...
Read moreAs a fair warning to any fellow travelers, we would not recommend this hotel to anyone coming to Athens. Things that disturbed our party included the following:
Surrounding city area is more run down, the bad part of town. There aren’t any good restaurants near the hotel after asking my local Greek tour guides. We tried a few and had a very poor experience. Its location is far from the center which makes it very hard to get to any of the city main attractions quickly. We also wouldn’t suggest the area for safety reasons, as we did not feel safe walking around. There’s lots of graffiti, busy traffic streets, and homeless individuals. The streets are littered with garbage. We stayed at a different hotel in Athens on the second leg of our trip near the Acropolis station and it was a perfect stone’s throw from Acropolis hill with great restaurants in a safe area. I would suggest someplace near there instead. The rooms were very noisy. During the day and at night there were always loud bumps and thuds, perhaps because the walls and floors are thin. It didn’t make for a restful night’s sleep. The staff were at times condescending and rude. We tried to ask for an airport taxi and they insisted on a high price of 75€ when we had made the same trip on arrival for 45€. We insisted they check and they ended up calling the cab company and found out they were wrong about the price. Felt like they were trying to take advantage of us. They also did not appreciate when we asked questions. For instance we inquired about having breakfast to go boxes on days we had an early start and they got angry. They ended up giving us a box but it was moldy! It was quite shocking for the price we paid for the accommodation. We also arrived and our room was very hot with the AC not functioning properly. It was as if we were bothering them when we asked for assistance and waited a long time for someone to figure it out. Just the moldy sandwiches they gave us for breakfast to go boxes! We were appalled! I’m so happy that we opened the sandwich to inspect the contents before taking a bite!
Overall please don’t stay here. We were troubled, could not sleep well, and were seen as an annoyance rather than paying guests. It’s in a very bad unsafe part of town. It’s far from all the sites!...
