One of the most memorable culinary experiences we’ve ever had in Athens! ❤️
Let me start with the gesture that truly touched us — I had asked in advance if the restaurant could prepare something small for my fiancée’s birthday, and they went above and beyond. They surprised us with a beautiful dessert served with a candle, and when they brought it out, they even played a birthday song with warm wishes. That moment, with the music and the smiles from the staff, made the evening incredibly personal and unforgettable. The cake itself was not only delicious but also one of the sweetest highlights of our trip.
And the food itself? World-class, yet deeply authentic: – a chilled red pepper soup with trout, cucumber, and raisins — one of the most unique soups we’ve ever tasted, – classic Greek dishes like moussaka and meatballs — absolute perfection, with the real taste of Greece shining through, – a fava split from Feneos spread that paired perfectly with warm bread, simple but full of flavor.
The atmosphere was just as remarkable as the food. The space is beautifully designed — elegant walls, lush greenery, and an impressive bar that immediately catches the eye. The background music throughout the evening was perfectly chosen and completed the experience without ever overwhelming the room.
On top of that, the service was outstanding. The gentleman who looked after us was kind, attentive, and clearly passionate about the menu and Greek cuisine. The selection of Greek craft beers was excellent, and of course, the classic touch — free water at the table.
This is a place that combines heart, flavor, style, and true Greek hospitality in the best possible way. Highly recommended — we’ll...
Read moreAs a solo traveller, I just had lunch at Cherchez La Femme (Σερσέ λα Φαμ) on a recommendation from Marcos at the Skylark Hotel, where I’m staying, and it totally exceeded expectations. The service, especially from my fantastic waiter, Achilleús, made the experience even more memorable. He was incredibly attentive, even treating me to a locally produced Mastiha aperitif, adding a wonderful Greek touch to the meal.
The food was simply outstanding. The lightly marinated sea bream with avgotaraho (Greek grey mullet bottarga) from the Trikalinos Family, was an exceptional mix of delicate flavours. The capers, lime marmalade, red onion, and chilli pepper flakes balanced beautifully with the lemon-olive oil sauce and dill, bringing a fresh and vibrant taste to the dish.
The meatballs with spearmint and yogurt were tender and flavourful—no mere menu description could do them justice. They were perfectly seasoned, with a unique blend of herbs that made each bite delightful. The yogurt dip added a refreshing touch that complemented the dish flawlessly.
For dessert, I enjoyed the Greek version of crème brûlée, a caramelised cream with Greek delight (loukoumi) from Syros island. It was smooth, creamy, and bursting with a depth of flavour that left me wanting more. Truly a fantastic way to finish the meal.
Overall, Cherchez La Femme offers an authentic Greek dining experience with top-notch service and beautifully prepared dishes. Although I’m solo, there were families and couples here and the team speaks fluent English (if you can’t speak Greek, like me). Highly recommended for anyone looking to indulge in local flavours with exceptional...
Read moreWe, like other reviewers here, stumbled on this place, about a week ago. We’d been walking around various neighbourhoods in Athens, and were tired and hot. We sat outside, and the bartender brought us some nice ice cold water, after a bit of prompting.
When the waiter came we ordered some lunch: bulgur wheat salad, a wild leaf salad, calves liver with caramelised onions, crisp-fried calamari. All the food was delicious! The bulgur salad was similar to a Turkish kisir but lighter, and with more herbs and unusual ingredients such as strawberry pieces. The calamari were not oily but dry and flavoursome. The liver was melt in the mouth, with the onions caramelised to perfection. The high spot was the wild leaf salad - very unusual (for us) combination of spinach-like leaves, tiny haricots, finely sliced pink onion rings, all bound in a creamy, slightly mustardy dressing. Outstanding.
Waiter was very friendly, and brought us a complimentary jar of raki with our Greek coffee, to go with the organic tsipouro we’d ordered.
A simple, unassuming place, with food prepared with care, and...
