Dishonest and Disrespectful – Worst Hotel Experience
I booked a “Superior Acropolis Room” expecting the stunning views shown on their website (photo attached). Instead, we were given a room facing a wall (also attached). When we raised the issue, the staff claimed the photo was of a suite, only to backtrack after we forced them to check their website.
The manager, unavailable for three days, was eventually reached by phone. His response? He argued that leaning out over the balcony to glimpse the Acropolis from the side counted as an “Acropolis view.” When we asked about the room in the website photo, they lied, claiming it faced the same wall, only to later admit it was on the opposite side of the hotel with a direct view of the Acropolis. Despite this, they refused to move us, insisting all such rooms were booked.
The staff’s dismissive and dishonest behavior made this one of the most frustrating experiences of my life. They repeatedly tried to outsmart us with word games and lies. I strongly advise against staying here to avoid being treated with such blatant disrespect.
The manager eventually offered to “solve” the issue by upgrading us to a suite for an extra €120 per night per room or refunding our money. Unfortunately, with two other rooms booked for elderly grandparents, moving all of us at 6 PM was impossible. We were left with no choice but to endure the lies and disrespect. This was not just disappointing—it was deeply disheartening.
Dear Perianth Hotel Team, Thank you for your response below, though I find it deeply disappointing. While I appreciate your effort to explain, I must emphasize that your reply further highlights the dismissive and patronizing attitude we experienced during our stay. The issue was never about a misunderstanding of the room type description. It was about honesty, transparency, and how you handled our concerns. "Acropolis view," and refusal to acknowledge the disparity between the advertised photos and reality were incredibly frustrating. To then suggest I “should have spent more time researching the room” is both disrespectful and unprofessional. Guests trust a hotel’s website to accurately represent what they are paying for—this is not a failure on my part but on yours. Furthermore, when the manager offered an “upgrade” to a suite for €120 more per night, this felt less like a solution and more like an attempt to capitalize on our frustration. I stand by my experience and my review. Your unwillingness to acknowledge the legitimate concerns of a paying guest and your efforts to shift blame are truly disappointing. I hope this feedback encourages you to treat future guests with greater honesty...
Read moreSo we stayed here for 4 nights. We started on a Monday on the 2nd floor, but on Wednesday night moved to the 4th floor. The reason? The noise coming up from the street was incredibly loud until 2am. I'm a pretty heavy sleeper, so normally that wouldn't bother me, but for some reason it did the first night, but not as much the 2nd night. Starting on Wednesday sleeping on the 4th floor, I heard nothing from the street. I slept like a baby! Major improvement. I don't know if it was just me, the double window construction, or just being up 2 more floors, but it made all the difference. Thanks to the hotel staff, who were excellent with customer service, getting us moved while we were out and about during the day.
This hotel is very well placed in the heart of yuppie-ish area with all sorts of restaurants, cafés, and bars. Makes for easy walking access to all things historic, shopping, and fun.
The downsides, and why I rated it 4 stars instead of 5: 1-The quality of the shades in the bedrooms was low. I was just trying to bring them up and down with the simple plastic beaded cords, and they got themselves wrapped around themselves. This led to one shade being stuck half down overnight. Not much fun, but we made it. :-) 2-One of the lights on the beside was blinking when turned on. I would have expected a maid to pick up on that in a 5 star hotel. 3-The kleenex box was down to the last 2 kleenexes. Once again, maid should catch that. 4-Lastly, the bathroom we had was clearly a handicapped restroom, as there was no door or even wall keeping the water from filling the entire bathroom floor and not drying completely ever. Unacceptable for a handicapped accessible room or regular room. No one wants standing water in the bathroom on either side of the toilet, whose handles never could be retracted, permanently in the down position.
The hotel breakfast each morning was a nice breakfast, but as others have noted, it missed the mark for a 5 star hotel breakfast. The bacon was terrible, please find some new provider for bacon. The food quality wasn't the worst, but it was the same every day, and no options to just order a la carte (other than a cappuccino and orange juice, which wasn't published, I just happen to ask).
So, although there were many wonderful aspects of this hotel, I would never classify it as a 5 star. In fact, I probably would classify it...
Read moreMy wife and I stayed here between March 31st and April 6th, 2024. We stayed on the third floor in a classic double room. The welcome upon arrival was very good, a quick and efficient check-in, followed by a very informative description of the area and provision of a tourist map. Then a colleague took us and our bags to our room, where he explained all the details and controls in the room. The hotel is situated literally in the centre of everything, and shops and eateries are on the doorstep, creating a very cosy, vibrant atmosphere. None of the tourist sites were more than 15 minutes walk from the hotel or each other, so there is no need for the hop on hop off bus at all. The public transport is cheap, frequent, and comprehensive, with 1.5 hr 24-hour and 72-hour ticket options. Breakfast at the hotel was plentiful and filling, a choice from a hot menu as well as a choice from the buffet and room service. All the food was very good. The staff were very attentive and polite. The hotel itself was very quiet inside and tranquil. The only thing of note was that there was no reastruant for dinner as it was being completely refurbished. However, this had zero impact on our stay. Other people have said about street noise and yes there was some, but you must remember when booking you will be in the centre of Athens and Greeks and tourists alike enjoy the outside eating and drinking and so this comes with a very happy rumble of chatter. I did not hear anything related to bad behaviour from anyone. I would recommend this hotel for all of the reasons above and look forward to booking again...
