When looking up the reviews of this hotel, I was initially concerned that folks kept harping about the location, and rarely focused on the hotel or the quality of the rooms. After staying there, I get it! This hotel's location DOES make a difference. It is right in the heart of things, and is still relatively quiet. While the guidebooks say to stay in Plaka, frankly this hotel located in Monastiraki was just fine - with easy access to Plaka, Psyri for restaurants, and a very short walk to major sites like the Ancient Agora, Roman Forum, Syntagma Square, and even the Acropolis. Getting taxis via Uber was a breeze, with practically most trips not costing more than 5 Euros. ||We don't particularly care for a lot of hotel amenities, or fancy lobbies, etc. So, this hotel's very basic entry didn't matter so much to us. It's a good thing they sent me a pic of their front door, coz. their location can easily be missed between so many different restaurants. The elevator isn't large, and really slow - like a residential/In-home elevator.||We had a family room on the 4th floor, which was spacious for 2 adults and 2 grown teens. We each had plenty of space for ourselves. The beds were great! the AC good! And having easy and free access to drinking water and sodas was a huge plus. What IS, however, a problem is the bathroom - with the shower and toilet all in the same open space. It wouldn't have mattered much other than the fact that the water from the shower keeps accumulating around the toilet, and there's no drain in the area. So, after every shower, you have to scoop the water over to the drain. I think others have talked about this here, and the management is well aware of it. But they don't seem to have done anything about it.||This hotel would have earned 5 stars save for the...
Read moreI’m not sure what’s happening with these other reviews or if we got the one horrible room in this hotel, but there is nothing about the photos that resembles the current state of our room or stairwell. We thought we were paying a premium for staying at a charming boutique hotel, but we were sorely disappointed. The room furnishings and bathroom were in horrible condition. Everything seemed old and dirty, and there was mold in the bathroom, which was poorly designed and outdated. The shower is in the same space as the toilet (you have to open the shower door to use the toilet) and the shower walls were crumbling, leading to a large black moldy area. There was a random trundle bed taking up half the room, which we were told was put there because people frequently sleep more than two in the room. We did not request it and it only further ruined the atmosphere. There were only two very flat deflated pillows on the bed. The curtains were again old and we were wary of having to touch them. The white couch pictured in the photos was also in bad shape and stained. There was a random janky TV hanging an inch over the couch and the remote was broken. we really don’t understand how these people get away with charging close to $300 per night. There are so many nicer places to stay for less in Athens.
2 stars for: There was a small balcony with a distant view of the acropolis, which was nice, but there are no chairs on the balcony to enjoy the view. The hotel is located on an incredibly busy street with countless restaurants, but despite being light sleepers, this was not a problem. It seemed that there was decent soundproofing. The staff was also...
Read moreWe booked our stay at Emporikon for just one night in Athens and we were disappointed to find that where we were staying was not the hotel we booked. We arrived at the address for Emporikon (the one pictured on the website where we booked) and they told us that they did not have a reservation for us and we were probably in the other building. The woman walked us over to the other building a block away (on a somewhat deserted alley rather than the bustling street of the actual hotel we booked). They did have our room there but we had booked a “triple room with a view” and what we received was a room with one bed (a full I think) and absolutely no view. The room was very small, overlooked a bar that was extremely loud until 2am. The toilet also did not flush—we had to essentially take it apart and flush four different ways to make it work. There was a smart TV, but it had no access to any channels and would not accept any of our U.S. streaming app accounts. The hotel we booked was a beautiful historic building and that was just not what this new building was. The location on the map and the wifi name were a different hotel “Anasa.” There was a sign outside that said “new Emporikon building” which did make us feel that at least we were not being kidnapped, but it is very concerning that we booked one thing and received something entirely different. That is just not how a contract works. We should have at least been told it would be a different room than...
