For many years I have traveled 100 or more days a year.||In SEP-OCT 2022, I traveled for a month in Greece staying at 12 hotels (and on an overnight Ferry). Within this context Niriis Hotel was well below average||PROS: The room was spacious and with a decently provided kitchen (supermarket food was very inexpensive in Crete)||CONS: Niriss Hotel has hostal-type dorms in the ground floor and the private rooms are reach by climbing long and steep stairs. The service by the women attending during the day was very bad. There was not even a hint of help with my luggage. In my 3 night at Niriis, there was NO change of towels and when I asked for one, the woman wanted to charge me several Euros extra. I had to wait for check out (and a young man for check inn) because the attendants did not appear at the posted time. After phoning, the owner appeared for my check out. In contrast to the owner, the regular attendants are rude and useless. Niriis is located several miles from the center of town, so you need a car (or pay exorbitant taxis). The hotel has no parking and the street is too narrow to leave the car, so my rental car slept several blocks away. The hotel is nearby a couple of beaches which were unremarkable. Next time in Xania/Chania, I will not stay at Niriis but instead at a hotel in the old town which is a much nicer area. ||Parting remarks: Greece is wonderful, except for the touristic islands which were crowded even in October and I may skip them altogether next time. Crete has many attractions and some great beaches but choose carefully your hotels. The Peloponesse resulted better than expected. Athens was safe anytime anywhere I moved, even after midnight. Travel light because not all hotels have elevators (and like at Niriis you will be on your own) and in ancient towns you will climb many stairs and walk over cobblestones. Missing church number 59 was OK, sitting in a café watching people go by and doing nothing was inspiring even for hyper me. I had a...
Read moreHotel is located outside of the "taxi service area". The transportation arranged by the hotel is unreliable and overcharges. If you book through Expedia, you will be placed in the worst room on the property. That room (#5) is next door to the staff service room. Inside the staff service room there's a washing machine that is off balance. Everytime it goes into the spin cycle you'll hear it. They do laundry up until 10/11 at night. The free to use beach toys/umbrella are stored outside the door, so its a high traffic area with other guests going to your "patio" to get beach supplies. There's minimal soundproofing. Housekeeping bangs on your door; cleaning is only done on their schedule. Front desk staff will outright lie. Also, the motors in the AC & fridge will make loud hums/clunks/struggling motor noises. If you put the AC on dehydrator/dry setting it is a bit quieter. You can turn off the fridge at night for quiet. Nauseous that I spent 1000€ on this place when next door is a much better hotel. AVOID edit] and if you complain they will send harassing messages through the travel app or elsewhere - guess it didn't occur to them to address the issues; hospitality 101 [end edit just like your customer service, your reply is oh so late and oh so lame. Good luck staying...
Read moreHello ! It's Michael. I just came back from holiday and straight away I have to give very positive review. That was my favourite stay in one star hotel, even though for me it deserve more! First of all I came to Chania at midnight, and arrive by taxi straight to the hotel very late. Even though it was late, George was happy to check me in and give me necessary information like locations of nearest 24h store, pub, bus stop etc. Another day, the lady in reception was very informative as George mentioned when I had checked in, she gave me some tips how to get to few locations. Everyone was really nice and friendly. The hotel has got Wi-Fi which works good. The most spectacular is how the rooms are literally clean and tidy! I never seen such a neat in one star hotels. Surroundings are full of pubs, restaurants, and shops. Very very close to the 3 different beaches :D. The last thing what I have to mention is that this property is very calm. I did not have to deal with drunk people or some unnecessary situations. Nobody were bothering at all. In the last day George let me check out what time I really wanted to without charging me for anything. George, once again thank you very much and see you in next year :)....
