Gala Suites — Hotel in Municipality of Thira

My husband and I stayed for 2 nights in the Junior suite. The only reason why we're giving it a 2 star is because of the location and the fact that the view from the balcony was amazing. WE URGE YOU NOT TO BOOK HERE.

There are so many cons to this place:

1. It wasn't clean - there was mold in the shower and sink. The towels weren't changed until I asked the contact person, "Athena", to have them changed.
2. Air conditioner didn't work but there was a fan.
3. Contact person was "Athena" who met us 40 minutes late to check in (although check in was supposed to be 3PM we didn't check-in until 3:40).
4. The mugs and wine glasses were dirty so we washed them ourselves prior to using and no one came to exchange them for new ones - even though we told Athena this.
5. The plunge pool was dirty with flies and wasn't cleaned until we asked Athena.
6. There is a huge gap even after closing the shower door so after showering, the bathroom floor would be covered in water. We used multiple towels to try and soak up the water but it wasn't enough.
7. We had 2 large luggages. There was no assistance offered, or options for hiring helpers, to get our luggage to the suite. The walk is far from where you're dropped off (no car/bike access) and you need to carry it down/up very steep and narrow stairs.

When we booked this room there were only a handful of reviews, most of them poor, and we thought that because it was new the owners would take the reviews seriously and address the issues. But obviously they don't care and use this place as just...

This review is for the lower-level unit.

This is no doubt a great location and nice room BUT it's not worth it.

1. Hot tub never worked. When we arrived she said she was calling someone to work on it. I asked three days in a row to be gaslit at the end with "OH we had a misunderstanding". How is a broken hot tub a misunderstanding? I asked three days in a row and instructions were never given. It turns out you have to call to get someone to turn it on. You can not turn it on. There are no instructions in the unit outlining this and she never mentioned it until check out when I insisted on an answer.

2. The bathroom shower floods. It was a mess! I had to ask for extra towels to stop the flooding. Sadly I can not post my video or pics of this.

3. No luggage storage after check out but since I was upset she made an exception for a few hours. Sorry, that does not make up for the rest.

4. The people next door were so loud the first night. The room is not soundproof as stated.

5. The people next door left a mess in our area. All of my concerns we met with oh yes, I'll take care of everything. However, in the end, nothing really happened, except it was moved to their stairs, clearly visible from our unit.

6. Daily housekeeping does not exist but if you ask for towels they will be provided.

Again, great view, great location but they need to fix their stuff.

I almost don’t want to share this hidden gem because I selfishly want to have it all to myself next time I visit.

Everything physically was superb. The quality of the room, cleanliness, privacy, water quality, comfort, lighting…all amazing. The check in process was effortless once I figured out how to get to the building, but the staff were very patient and accommodating.

Two small things - I wished there had been an option to get help with my bags… the rooms are down a set of rocky stairs which are difficult to get wheeled luggage up and down. Thankfully a man along the way took pity on me and helped me carry my luggage to the main road about 50 meters. The other thing I noticed was that the staff comes to clean or add water to the jacuzzi twice a day, morning and night, making it difficult for me to enjoy the water uninterrupted before or after returning from activities during the day.

In all, these didn’t take away from the experience I had in Santorini- especially with the phenomenal views. I WILL be staying here next time I visit, if the demand for these 3 beautiful United doesn’t force prices to sky rocket!...
