NOTE that the reviews you will see for this property can be deceiving. I spent HOURS planning a 2 week trip to Greece and Turkey for 6 people and this is the only place where we felt deceived after all the research I did. Be sure you are booking the Caldera View room if you want what is reviewed. ||We dragged our own luggage through the streets of Oia which was the start of the disappointment. There was no communication about how to reach the property and when we asked no one knew where it was. Fortunately someone called the number on our confirmation for us. The property sent one person to assist with the luggage for 4 people. All of the reviews are glowing about the view, the room and the service, etc. What it not clear is that there is NO VIEW at all with the cave apt. and that you DO NOT even have access to one. In addition, the bathroom, while private, is outside of the room. In other words, if in the middle of the night you need to use the "private bathroom" you have to unlock the door of your "apt." and hope that no one has ventured into the courtyard in the middle of the night. We used the "outdoor furniture" to secure the sliding glass doors to make sure that no one else had access to our bathroom. The small separate bedroom has two single beds and no AC so if you are 2 couples and want to close the door be aware that it might get hot. There were a lot of mosquitos in the rooms when we arrived. ||||On the positive side, the location was perfect as far as being in the middle of OIA. We were right next to the church and found the bells and service that happened on Sunday morning wonderful. There was a wedding in the church on Saturday that was also beautiful. The hostess Vicki is right around the corner at what seems to be almost anytime. We paid for the location and comfortable beds. Just be aware that there is absolutely no access to a view...
Read moreWe took transfer service (Yafy) from airport to our hotel at Oia, listed price at €45 one-way. The staff was kind to give us a discount at €40. The shuttle bus rate is €18 per person. ||The car journey took about 20mins to Oia. It stopped at the nearest possible drop-off point, where the hotel staff from Top Oia was waiting for us. Yafy has contacted the hotel staff in advance. Although the hotel is less than 200 metres away there were steps to climb, so be prepared to carry your bags and lugguges uphill. Rest assured the effort was worth it as the room we reserved has a magnificient view of the Caldera. Simply breathtaking!||The room has all the basic facilities; aircon (warm & cold air), fridge, coffeemaker, kettle, iron, hairdryer, hot water standing shower. Breakfast was included and it was average, supposed to be served to our room at 8am but it came at 9am. Daily room cleaning is at 1200hrs. ||We took nice strolls there, and every corner and angle pose great picture shots. As it was off peak season, the place wasn’t packed with tourists, and only about 40% of the shops were opened. There are convenience stores for basic groceries, bakery shops, restaurants (Greek, Italian, Thai, etc), lots of souvenirs shops. Be careful of donkey droppings though. ||There are shuttle buses to Fira on scheduled timings, €1.80 one way per person. The journey takes about 45mins one-way. Do take note that the last bus leaves Fira at 1900 hrs to Oia.||Although Fira is a bigger town with more shops and hotels, we are happy that we chose Oia as we prefer views over shopping. ||We saw the beautiful sunset on the first day at Oia. (Oia is the best location to view sunset). The sky was overcasted on the second day, and rain came on the third day where we left Santorini. Guess we...
Read moreThis is an apartment building with 2 suites for rent and the owners live on the top floor. It is right next to the church, so the location is really convenient for sightseeing, though there is still some walks to get to the old castle, etc. ||||It's a cave style suite with a kitchenette that we used it to make hot water and boil eggs for breakfast in the morning. There are some cups, plates, utensils, fridge and pots. But the coffee and tea selection seemed just like whatever is left over from prior traveler. ||||The room can comfortably sleep 4 with beds for each of them. There's a room with 2 twin beds (ideal for kids). Wifi has good speed and it sometimes took a bit of waiting to turn the TV on. ||||Since the owner lives upstairs, it's really easy and convenient for us to ask questions and request services. There's also housekeeping from 11-1. The owner also provides their phone numbers for Whatsapp. The owners are very responsive from day one of reservation to a few days before arrival to make sure we have properly arranged for transportation to get to the apartment.||||My average rating came from the fact that for 250 USD a night, there was no pool, no breakfast or any fancy amenities. Ordering breakfast would cost extra 10 euro per person. I suppose that's the popularity of Oia. I also found the smell from the bathroom awful. It's probably from the fact the bathroom was cleaned without disinfection. But the shower was good, plenty of hot water in consistent temperature. ||||The owners knew the surroundings quite well and told us about Lioyerma Lounge and Pool that is about 10 minutes walk away. The pool overlooking sunset was nice. Not exactly easy to find as we had to ask around a few times, but once we got there...
