Island Hostel — Hotel in Budapest

The Island Hostel in Budapest is simply a dream. It's located on Margaret Island. It is (besides a 5-star luxury hotel) the only option to stay directly on the island. Public transport options are great, but you can also walk to the city center in 15 minutes. All the attractions & amazing buidlings, shops, restaurants, pubs, markets, the great thermal spas... all is very easy to reach from there. The hostel itself is a stunning place. It's right on the Donau River, and you can watch the sunrise over the Donau from the rooftop terrace. Everything is tailored with lot of style and love for the backpackers heart. Lots of plants & comfy couches on the terrace create a wonderful atmosphere. And there's Lili, the house cat, who enjoys being pampered and petted by everyone. The staff is very warm, relaxed, and helpful with any issues. In short: pure hospitality. The rooms have personalized lockers for securing your belongings. We arrived early to the hostel and were allowed in to drop our bags off, it was around 8am at this point and after a long night of travelling we were exhausted and decided to relax on the terrace. The staff didn’t like that we were sitting on the terrace without checking in yet, which we couldn’t do till 3pm, so they kicked us out. When we got back to the hostel to check in and get our room, one of the beds was completely covered with dead flies and had to be cleaned. Afterwards we decided to use the shower which ended up being almost completely clogged with water leaking out the shower onto the floor. Originally we wanted to stay at the hostel for two nights, but we decided against it after they attempted to kick us out the hostel at 10am the next day… again. The staff also didn’t like the fact that we used their bar and complained that they had to clean up too many plastic cups after us. Once we decided that we were leaving they tried to charge us for an additional night, but we managed to avoid it by just walking away from them at a slightly above average...
