If you can take a second to read this before deciding to go there, please do so. If you don’t have to visit here, please avoid it to save your mental, night and stomach. I have to say this place is extremely HORRIBLE! I experienced the worst dinner in my life, and the unimaginable WORST RUDE service really shocked me mentally. I came here for dinner with my fiancé, we ordered a goose liver , a duck breast, a glass of wine and tea. First, when we ordered the wine, we asked for a shot to taste and were REJECTED! What a shock! The waiter said in their restaurant, people cannot taste a shot but only order at least one glass . I argued and I said that I would like to consult the manager, the waiter said he was the manager and if we don’t like the wine he brought to us, he changed what he said that he can bring us another one for free. Okay… still weird but not the worst. Second, we got our main dishes in a few minutes, I highly doubt if the food is cooked freshly or pre-cooked. Also, the food is not that good. The goose liver is just not bad, while I heard goose liver in Hungary is amazing and special. This places seems to be with tons of award for its long history, superb food and respectful careful service. At least its food is so disappointing, if Hungary goose liver is really that good, I wish someone can suggest one for me to have another try. The duck breast is half cold, hard and with a very weird aftertaste . I don’t think it is made by fresh duck breast with a good quality. Third, their poor and RUDE service. For your information, this place 13% service fee is applied. Hungary is not a country with tipping culture, so we would expect at least a good friendly service here. However, their service is the worst I have ever experienced in my life, including all the ones does not need to pay service fee at all. The waiter was very rude, impatient and he did not smile at all. He does not respect us or answer any question. I was NEVER been treated like in my whole life, I was so shocked that the service in a restaurant can be so bad. I did not feel I was there to enjoy my dinner, I felt like I was there to be tortured. When we were paying, I told him all the complain I have for this restaurant, all the thing does not match the reputation of this place, he just said ‘Oh’. Because the service fee is written on the menu that applied here, so we still paid it to be polite. However, I have to say that they do not deserve any service fee at all regarding our experience, and even more, they owe us an apology and explanation, for their terrible service, rudeness , and mediocre food. Also, the horrible service really shocked me mentally, I don’t understand at all why they can treat me like that, people here are the most impatient and rude people I have ever met in my life(of course I have been many countries already and I am not a 1 year old baby), but really this is the worst day in my life and I wish my therapist will help me to feel better soon. I wanna tell the waiter , if you hate this world , if you hate this society, please also find a therapist for yourself, why you wanna ruin more innocent people? Like me, I just wanted to have a dinner! No one should be treated like this, I really sincerely wish that I was the last person to...
Read moreDue to a last-minute change, we chose Kiskakukk as our dinner venue on a whim. The first impressions were promising: the restaurant is beautiful inside and out, and it felt like a place with character and history. It seemed like we were in for a pleasant evening—until we stepped through the door.
From the very first moment, the service was disappointing. The waiters were rude and had a distinctly insincere, condescending attitude. Even worse, we could hear them talking about the guests, complaining, and even cursing among themselves. In a restaurant, the atmosphere is shaped not only by the interior but also by the staff—unfortunately, in this case, the latter completely ruined the positive impression of the former.
I ordered a lemonade, which turned out to be undrinkably sweet. When I asked to swap it for a still water, they complied—or at least they should have. However, both drinks appeared on the bill, meaning I ended up paying for a lemonade I didn’t even drink. I had never encountered anything like this before.
The food was a mixed experience. The parsley potatoes were excellent, but the brassói aprópecsenye (a Hungarian pork dish) was overly greasy, making it difficult to finish. The flavors were generally fine, but the execution left something to be desired.
At the end of the meal, when I indicated that I wanted to pay with a SZÉP card (a Hungarian employee benefit card), one of the waiters laughed and said it wasn’t possible—even though both the restaurant’s website and the OTP Bank system listed it as an accepted payment method. Finally, another waiter processed the payment and at least explained that their terminal wasn’t working.
Maybe my expectations were too high, but our evening at Kiskakukk turned out to be a huge disappointment. A beautiful, historic restaurant, completely ruined by an impolite staff and a series of frustrating issues. This was not just an unpleasant dinner—it was one of the worst restaurant...
Read moreThe food is really good, especially the crispy duck leg and the foie Gras. The food is so good that we decided to go once again the night before we leave Budapest However, However, However, I never thought that they disappointed us at the last bit in terms of service attitude and booking arrangement.
We made a reservation request in the morning for the night. They always emphasize that only when a confirmation email is sent to you will your reservation be really confirmed. As such, I received the confirmation email few hours afterwards. Not until when I tried to call them to move my reservation earlier do they tell me that my reservation is NOT accepted. They said I have to made the reservation at least one day before, or in other words only confirmation emails received at least one day before the day of booking will be regarded as valid. I was totally infuriated and dumbfounded. It is them who emphasize the ultimacy of their CONFIRMATION emails but them as well who reject the validity of their confirmation emails. If they don't accept same day booking, they should tell us during our reservation or not allow us to make one, and most importantly don't send an email saying "Booking Confirmed". What if I didn't call them spontaneously? I wouldn't know my booking is invalid until I arrived the restaurant and I have to find another one. Waste of time. Lastly, before I had the chance to clarify all once again, the staff attending to me just abruptly ended the call, I ain't sure this is intentional or accidental though.
Overall, as I have been travelling to so many places, good food is everywhere now in the world. What also comes into the entire experience equation is the service. In this realm, although I could give a 5 star for the food, the service downgrades drastically undermines its...
