The one positive thing I can say about the Sea Grand is the location as it is quite central to the South Mumbai and you have the Taj Mahal hotel just around the corner if you want to see that and go for High Tea (do recommend!)||||This is the only positive thing I have to say though. When my friend and I arrived, no rooms were ready even though we had booked and checked the time for our arrival. Waiting for an hour in the smallest "lobby" ever, we were assigned to an even smaller room with no windows!! Just a bed, four walls and a small toilet and bath, almost in the same room. We were exhausted after the travel and decided to take a nap.||We had booked and paid for a "superior" room which was definitely not what we had been given. After making the receptionist aware of this, English became a bit of a problem and though he acknowledged my statement it seemed he did not understand a single thing I said. Even after trying several times, no action was taken and we received no compensation or offer to switch rooms.||No cleaning was done and no changing of sheets in the bed or fresh towels. Normally this would not be a problem, but the weather was warm and the sheets got icky in the end. We also asked for fresh towels that was not to be found.||I am not certain, but I believe we had paid for breakfast as well, but we saw no options to having a place to eat. I could be wrong about this part, but then again, we much preferred going out for food.||Lastly, the doors and walls are paper thin and there was so much noise we woke several times during our stay.||||If you want a cheap room and care very little about the conditions, go for it. Personally, I would strongly advise you find some place else to...
Read moreThe location of the place is really awesome. It's just 5 mins walk from the Gateway of India. And one would prefer to stay in this area as opposed to other areas is because you have a very decent neighborhood, there are an abundance of very good cafes and restaurants and there are some really good shopping precincts (Crawford Market, Colaba Causeway, Zaveri Bazar, Colaba Market etc) at a stone's throw. Or you can take a night stroll along the sea to the Gateway of India or the Marine drive (10 mins by car) The entrance to the hotel appeared a bit shoddy but once you reach the 5th floor to the reception it looks warm and welcoming. The manager was really good also very friendly and upgraded our room. The staff was also friendly (Most of them are Asamese) The rooms are nice too, clean and chic (specially the toilet) but a room size is bit on the smaller side. Try to get a room with an external opening otherwise it can be a bit stuffy. The in house kitchen is quite good but a bit on the pricier side (It's better to have snacks down the street or in the restaurant called Koyla which is just above it; Koyla is a must if you are staying in Colaba Suites and it will be an experienceof it's own). But given the location, the service provided and the rent, I think it's the best deal possible in this locality of Colaba. A big fat recommendation to anyone travelling...
Read moreThe location is pretty neat. Colaba is a great area to stay in Mumbai. ||||However, the hotel, structurally speaking, is in poor conditions. The entrance is not even obvious; a narrow almost dodgy-looking stairway. ||||The staff is quite nice, kind and helpful, despite the level of spoken English is not adequate to properly communicate with international travelers, to be honest.||||The room was small, and also in poor conditions. The painting fell off the walls and the bed had stains/spots of unclear nature. There is no separate shower in the bathroom: meaning that there is a “jet” of water that flows directly into the bathroom, and a helpful plastic bucket. This means that after taking a shower, the bathroom is hardly usable (water on the toilet and everywhere). I understand this is the case in several Indian houses/hotels but I must admit I was not particularly comfortable with it.||||I believe this can possibly become a nice hotel, although in my view this would require some major efforts in revamping the structure. I regret to say that I would honestly not stay at this...
