Pluses: 1. Great location a short walk from the village center. 2. Terrific vew of the sea from the small balcony. 3. Pleasant staff. 4. Quiet. 5. Clean.||||Minuses: 1. An awkwardly shaped room that made moving about difficult at times. There is one place in our room where it was impossible for two people to pass at the same time. 2. The bathroom was very small, and the shower is a joke. My wife and I are of average size, and neither one of us could take a shower without banging our elbows against the plastic doors. I could not bend down to wash my legs and feet. I finally opened one of the doors, getting the floor wet but at least getting a somewhat decent shower. 3. Our balcony was quite small. Just enough room for a couple of chairs and a very small table. 4. Other than the small balcony there are no outside areas of the hotel at which to sit, enjoy the view, and relax. There also is no sitting area inside. 5. The breakfast is pretty mediocre. The eating area, while adequate, is nothing to write home about. 6. Because we were taking some things from one home to another, our luggage was pretty heavy. There was no one to help with the luggage. I am in pretty good shape for a 70 year old, but it wasn't fun getting the suitcases up and down the fairly narrow stairwell with turns in it. ||||Bait and Switch? We originally reserved a room at Hotel Belvedere and Tre Re, down at the Marina Grande. A few weeks before our trip, in contacting me with some information, hotel personnel mentioned something like "as we previously told you, we moved you to the La Prora." No reason was given. They had not told us previously. That was the first we heard of it. I responded that we had reserved the Belvedere because we liked the location and it sounded very pleasant, and that we wanted to keep our reservation there. The hotel then responded that the Belvedere had to close (no reason or dates of closure given), and we were assured that the La Prora provided all of the same amenities and qualities as the Belvedere. From reading reviews, that does not appear to be true. For one thing, the balconies at the Belvedere are described as being quite large and pleasant. We walked by the Belvedere. It looked like it could have been closed for quite a long time, and from before we made our reservation. I do not know if that is the case or not. I do know that after our stay at the La Prora I received an e-mail from the hotel requesting that I review...
Read morePerched above Marina Grande, the very small Albergo La Prora was an gem of a place to stay. We opted for a standard double room with a sea view and were not disappointed. Excellent price point for a very nice place to stay.||We were in room 20 and were treated to a sweeping view of Capri laid out before us, with the Bay of Naples, Naples itself and Vesuvius in the distance. The tiled balcony had a nice little table and two chairs and there was also a view of Piazetta di Capri/Piazza Umberto I, and you could see the funicular going up and down. There wasn't a time of day that the view was not absolutely beautiful. The doors to the balcony opened two ways - one to get in and out, and another to just let a breeze in.||The room is very simply decorated, a nice bed, a small writing desk, enough electrical plugs, and a wardobe with in-room safe. The tiled floor was cool to the feet, which was nice on a warm day. The bathroom was very clean and had an excellent supply of hot water. The bed was comfortable and positioned for a perfect view out the doors to the balcony. ||The provided morning meal was very good and comprised of fresh local fruits, some sweet breads, cakes, cereals, milk and juice. Coffee is prepared fresh for you.||Getting to the hotel is relatively easy from the port. You can either take the funicular, an open air taxi (the choice we made - well worth the 25 euro), or if you are very fit you can hike up to it. The Taxi will drop you off in a small piazza and you only have some stairs to climb. There isn't a way to get to the hotel without climbing at least some stairs.||Being a very small hotel, the check in is very easy and right next to where a very nice breakfast is available. They will also hold your luggage either before or after your reservation is you are there early or want to explore the island more after you checkout and before you have to take...
