We were passing by the place and having a quick glance at the menu. The manager standing next to the entrance was very inviting and we decided to have lunch there on our way back. When we came back the waiter ignored us. I asked if we can have a table for two. He didn’t say hi or anything else but pointed to the table without seating us or giving us the menu. Another waiter has noticed we were sitting without a menu and asked if we would like to eat anything. I said yes and we would like to have a menu. He was very nice and apologetic for making us sitting there without any help. Then we have ordered. We received our order and I got confused about the seafood pasta I received. The menu stated clearly spaghetti with seafood. I wanted to make clear if it’s only clams and mussels. The waiter has been so rude and ignorant. I have no words to describe this. After all my questions he literally asked “what do you want? Do you want to change it or what? Tell me what you want and I bring it. Yes, it is what it is.” I have been shocked by the respond. First I referred to the language barrier but the waiter was so rude every time we approached him. We told him that we don’t mind the dish we received but just want to make clear if we ordered correctly cause we expected more seafood in the dish according to the menu and Google pictures. He said pictures in google are old and it’s not what it looks like. He said he will change it and ask to add more seafood. I asked him if the price going to be the same and he confirmed. Later the manager came and started apologizing for the service received which we really appreciated cause we thought that finally someone cares about customers. He offered us free desserts but we refused as we were happy with the outcome of replacing the dish with adding seafood for the same price although the attitude was awful. At the end we receive a bill where the final amount for the dish was different to the initial one. ALTHOUGH IT WAS CONFIRMED BY THE WAITER THAT IT STAYS THE SAME. And honestly, instead of offering free deserts I would remove the additional charge for adding seafood. It’s just lack of basic service skills. At the end we left very frustrated as we felt scammed after being treated in a rude manner. And the restaurant is not cheap at all. And it’s a big shame as the view is breathtaking and pizza was very nice. One of the worst service and complaint dealing I have ever seen in my life. More than this disappointing experience was that we have passed by the day before and took arancini. Arancini with cheese and meat. Please, have a look at Arancini with meat and cheese without any meat and cheese in it. Super dry and overcooked rice too. See attached...
Read moreOur first night in Capri, we just wanted to go out and have a decent meal. It's been more than a year of the pandemic and first time we felt encouraged to travel within the Italian regions. We all live in Rome. First of all, the food was decent, hence the 2 stars. It was very pricey, but understand Capri is a little that way. The first part that made our eyebrows raised, a table of 3 Italian men ordered hamburger patties with a side of roasted potatoes. It was not on the menu so we asked the waiter about it. He said it was not on the menu (fuori menu) and that it was ordered in advance. What??? Hamburger patties are that difficult to make that you have to order in advance but lobster is readily available??? We had a fish rush which was €34, pizza which was €14, antipasta which was €18, a salad of rucola and tomatoes, €6, 2 sides of roasted potatoes, €6 each, 4 covers €2.5 each person (only 1 person ate the bread) and €10 for 2 liters of water. Fine. It's expensive, we understood. Then came the kicker. We got 1 Limoncello and 1 espresso. In the bill this came as 2 amari for €10. Fine but we didn't order two amari we order 1. The waiter said ok, then came back with the menu changed. €8 euros for a long shot of limoncello!! and €2 for coffee. So still 10 euros!!! It felt like they were playing the game AND had one expensive menu for tourists and one for locals/Italians. Whatever group got the 'other' menu was definitely not 4 women who looked like a tourist. It was only €3 euros, someone would argue. It's the principal. Definitely did not pay for the view. It was so dark outside there was nothing to see but the reflection of the restaurant. I understand that pandemic caused hardship for restaurants but this is not the correct way to bring cash back in. We would have paid higher than the value of the meal if it just didn't feel like we were being scammed. Simone mentioned a free limoncello on the restaurant. Lucky them. It cost us an arm and a leg and then also made us feel like we were being s scammed. Be aware. There must be honest restaurant in the island. This...
Read moreUpdate: We returned to Al Capri for our first meal in Capri during our trip in September and were excited to place the same order we had the prior year as it had been such a great experience and we had loved the food. This visit was the exact opposite of our first - the waiter was very pushy and continued to try to upsell us the entire meal (even making a somewhat rude remark about our basic order). He asked if we wanted fresh bread to which we replied yes. He then brought us a bread basket and later returned with a separate basket with pita bread. While placing it on the table, he said "fresh bread which you requested" which we thought was strange as we had already received a bread basket. Once we received the bill we realized why - it was a way for him to add another 15 euros to our bill without giving us any notice that it would be an extra charge. We were extremely disappointed as not only was the waiter pushy and made the overall experience uncomfortable, the food was not anywhere close to as good as the prior year. We would have complained about the "fresh bread" charge, but sadly it was the best thing we ate there that day. The standard table charge and food prices also seemed much higher than the prior year as well. We were very disappointed and will not be doing back.
Original review: After arriving in Capri later than expected, Al Capri was one of the few restaurants open for a late lunch. We were very skeptical as this is in a very touristy part of town, but were recommended this place by the owners of our hotel, the Capri Wine Hotel, and were pleasantly surprised by the pizza and caprese salad. Both were fantastic and the view is amazing! We will be back the next time we...
