**NOT a 3 STARS hotel: it’s a renovated appartement in an old building in the 3rd floor
We got the basic room and it was disappointing. It’s not a real bed, it’s a hide away bed with uncomfortable mattress, no night stand and it has a thin door, just in the hallway, so you hear other guest all evening, with light coming from under the door. Laura, the receptionist, is nice, but had to follow the procedure in the right order for check in, no chance she would agree to share the wifi password before I had pay the whole stay. My husband was double parked in front on the hotel and we had no more data in our SIM card. The check-in took a long time, and after 3-4 requests, site finally gave it to me ( the wifi password!!!), so I could update my husband on the 30 min check- in!! We had to leave early in our 5 days reservation for emergency family reasons and they were kind enough to charge us only half price for the unused night, but they charged us premium price for the used nights ( much more the the average of the 5 nights, and more than it’s worth for that room!!!). They refused to reschedule our stay and they lectured us on what it means to have a reservation. I am a seasoned traveller.
Speaking with management was not easy ( you have to send an email, Mr Diaz, he answered to Laura, not you (we can’t speak or interact with him directly), if we have more questions or disagreements, we need to send an other email, that will be answered in a few days. Laura keeps saying she has to follow orders. I wish I would have booked through Booking.com. I usually try to book directly with small hotels, but client service quality is missing here. Otherwise,...
Read moreI discourage others from staying here. I arrived for a 3 night stay, and I quickly realized there were serious safety issues. None of the rooms/hallways had smoke detectors or emergency lighting. There is also an automated door to access the “hotel area” on the third floor that requires a room key card to get into the hotel space from the hall. Guests must use their key card from the inside to get out to the stairwell. I asked the staff how I would get out in an emergency if there was a power outage. They said that they “thought” the door could be pried open but they weren’t sure. My concern was that if there was a fire during the night, and if a person was lucky enough to wake up during the fire (no smoke alarms to alert you), they’d need to navigate in the dark to the exit door (no emergency exit lights). Then once they found the door to the hallway in the dark, they would have to figure out how to pry it open just to get out of the hotel area to the stairwell. Then it would be 3 floors down in the dark hallway to the exit door that opens INWARD. The staff was very nice/friendly but when I asked about the fire safety/emergency exit issue, She said I was the first to ever voice concerns about safety. The manager spoke with me over the phone to tell me that they are not required by law to have smoke detectors or any safety measures.. I left and found a hotel nearby with safety equipment. I lost the cost of the 3 nights stay because they would...
Read moreChecked-in to the Merulana Inn Residence and all we heard were 'rules'. Don't do this, don't tough that etc. Most was how this was an 'inn' and not a 'hotel' so service was different. Service was non-existant. Judy wants the money from the hotel but wants no responsibility. As soon as we checked-in, she left. She leaves and all guests are left on their own. We couldn't even get ice. Judy did give her cell number but followed it with the threat that it had better be an emergency to call her and not something like 'locking yourself out of the room'. Even the breakfast was shocking. The only pastry was sliced bread and a toaster. There were scrambled eggs. My companion scrapped the bowl and got less than a tablespoon. The A/C, fridge, TV, and bathroom sink drain did not work. We left our room door open so we could get some A/C from the hallway. Their was a video camera in the room. We threw a towel over it. She doesn't need to snoop on us in our room. We were in 8 cities and 7 lodgings while in Italy this month. We stayed in hotels, inns and bed & breakfasts. Saying it's an inn so the service is different is an excuse. No Inn's or B&B's had no staff and left the guests on their own. That is an excuse to not take responsibility.
The being left alone, no A/C-TV-or Fridge, the video camera, is enough to say...
