While staying in Rome I wanted a hotel that was only 10-15 minutes walk from the city centre as well as being surrounded by supermarkets and restaurants. Even though this specific hotel didn’t boast a star rating, a simple description stating “Upscale rooms & suites with complimentary minibars in a polished hotel offering massages & a sauna”, according to Google Maps, caught my attention. When researching the hotel further, I found out that the room rate includes breakfast in the price. Luckily Relais De L'Opera was located down a side street meaning it faced away from the main street and throughout my stay I couldn’t hear anything at all from the main street. Brilliant. Even though I walked to most of the attractions I had booked up, there were a range of different transport links located near the hotel: tram, bus and metro networks going all across the city. The best transport link was the close proximity to Termini Station which has a service that runs to and from the airport as well as metro services than ran on the MEA, MEB and MEB1 lines. Termini Station also provides a transport hub as it connects with trams 5 and 14 as well as over 40 different bus routes. Relais De L’Opera is a hotel I would recommend when staying in Rome if you want to enjoy Rome without leaving a hole in your wallet as well as being reminded of the noisy transport choices for those in Rome. ||Relais De L’Opera has a 24 hour reception as well as offering an express check-in and check-out service for those wanting to get to their room after a long journey as well as those needing to make a quick departure. The staff that worked at reception went above and beyond what I would expect of them - one gentleman showed us to our room and even helped us with our bags. While guiding us to our room he explained all of the amenities that were included both within the room and the hotel itself. The hotel offers a spa service for those wishing to take a break from the hustle and bustle of Rome, which is perfect for those visiting during peak seasons such as during Easter and within the months of July and August. Massages can be booked under reservation only with prices starting at €25 and increasing with each price range suited to guests who prefer a longer session. Throughout my stay I was reminded of the different levels of security that the hotel held, the first being the door that can only be opened via a key card or pressing the intercom. Even if you do make it past the reception area and through the lift to the various floors, you then need a key card to access the corridor for these rooms. Relais De L’Opera allows people staying at the hotel to leave their bags in a secured and safe baggage room, this being useful if you arrive early and want to explore the city before you’re able to check-in. Upon check-in the hotel gave us a map which included information about attractions, landmarks and offers that can be used for the Ice Bar. Additionally, we were given a coupon for 2 for 1 drinks at the bar, which was a lovely touch which gave us the option to relax at the bar if we fancied. It got even better when we were told that the hotel included a gym which could be used free of charge - allowing me to keep up with my New Year resolutions to become healthier. ||The room we stayed in, which was a double room, featured a double bed which was sized more like a queen sized bed since I could roll myself with the duvet numerous times before falling from the bed. As the room faced away from the main road and was opposite a small street, I was able to enjoy my time in Rome peacefully and I slept like a baby throughout my stay which also had help from the beds being extremely comfortable. The room had a range of amenities such as a mini-bar, a flat-screen TV which had a range of English speaking channels as well as a massive wardrobe with a range of different storage compartments. The wardrobe even had room to put my suitcase in when it wasn’t being used, this making the room even more spacious and free of clutter. There was a safe available which was used constantly throughout my stay to store my passport, money and other valuables while I was out exploring the city of Rome. The room also featured a desk and chair, which was useful when I wrote out postcards to send to family members as well as write down information which I’m now typing up as we speak. The bathroom itself was spacious as it also included a bidet and an enormous shower which I took full advantage of. There were a range of different cupboards underneath the sink which was used to store my toiletries rather than trying to fit them all around the sink. There was free WiFi available throughout all areas of the hotel which allowed me to download films to watch on my return journey as well as keep up to date on social media. Around a minute from the hotel was a Coop, with inexpensive prices and a wide selection of food, this shop was brilliant. I was able to buy chocolate and sweet treats when returning at night for a quick snack and being able to buy bottles of water and soft drink that I could store in the mini-bar in my hotel room. Since our breakfast included a full continental, with both regular items such as cereal and sweet treats such as pastries, and some items for a cooked breakfast, we were able to fill ourselves up before we ventured out for the day. We had saved around €10 per day by getting a buffet style breakfast provided by the hotel for us at no extra charge, which included slices of cake that were...
Read moreThis little gem of a place can be found down a quiet street called Via Palermo. From the moment you book your stay here you are warmly greeted with a personal message from the ever attentive Simone. Simone is the manager of this fantastic hotel and throughout your stay he will be at your beckon call.
As you walk through the entrance doors for the first time you will see the grandeur of the typical Roman entrance. The check in is unmanned and may feel a little strange at first but as you speak to Simone and he explains that everything is done via WhatsApp or by QR codes you will soon realise that this is a benefit.
Throughout our 4 night stay we never tired of walking in the stunning entrance and we were always pleased to return to our modern, stylish but typically stylishly Roman room.
We were in Rome for my 40th birthday and Simone helped my partner organise a couple of surprises for me. He helped arrange a birthday breakfast and also a reservation at a local rooftop bar. Both were very special and only possible with Simones attention to detail and commitment to his guests.
This place is rated 2 star. The only reason for this is it is a unique concept. The feel of the place is more akined to renting your own apartment. With an unmanned reception on the 3rd floor and access to and from the building all via key card you could stay here for weeks and never see another guest. You genuinely feel like you have the place to yourself. There is a lush spa within the property which you pay extra for exclusive use of.
Make no bones about it, this place is 5 star and not 2 star. I couldnt have been happier with my stay and would highly recommend this place to anyone coming to Rome. It seems that every main attraction is a 15 minute walk away.
If you're thinking of coming to Rome get this place booked. Don't even hesitate. You won't regret...
Read morePrior to my stay, I contacted the hotel to confirm my arrival time and asked a few questions, I got a response quickly from Simone. ||The check-in process was quick and l was greeted by the door. I was given a map detailing how far the sites were and how to get there plus places to eat. The hotel is conveniently located 10 minutes from Termini station 15 minutes walk from Colosseum and 20 minutes walk from Spanish steps or Trevi fountain. The street is very quiet and safe, which was great at night. There is a nice restaurant called L'antica Fraschetta located in the side street 1 minute away and a nice coffee shop two streets down called Taliani Roma. ||The room itself was very clean and bigger than I expected. It was facing the street but no noise as its sort of a side street as well. The bed was very comfy, and the room was a nice temperature and nicely lighted. ||There isn't anyone manning the check-in desk, but when you call from your room phone, they pop to your room quite quickly. I didn't take advantage of the food or spa...
